Alright, no. Fail. Goobuntu has been around for years, it's their internal operating system. The OS they are releasing is tentatively named Google Chrome OS. It's going to be a heavily web based browser, on a modified linux kernal. It will not be like Windows. Though, Microsoft is fretting a bit internally about the competition on netbooks, they were hoping to lock down that aspect with the netbook version of 7. Though, While Microsoft is worried, some sources say Google might not even care
I hope it ends up being closer to mac than anything it'll be a great OS hopefully I can run it on my netbook ahhh I can't wait do they have an official date?
Goobuntu is an OS that Ubuntu made for Google to be used internally; and aside from obvious GUI differences; it's the same thing as Ubuntu.More recently Google released news on a new open-source OS, It is not going to be Ubuntu. Heck, I don't even know if it's debian based!! All we know is it, they will have an open-source OS built on the Linux Kernel that should be a competitor to Windows 7 (more so
No... Whoever uploaded this video... You are very very wrong. >.>
It's not Goobuntu, it's called *Google Chrome OS*... and it's not going to "Be like Windows" it is going to be competing AGAINST them... I assure you, there is a big difference.
Get your facts straight.
Goobuntu is NOT Google Chrome's OS, Google Chrome's OS is coming out later [around Fall] in 2010.
it won't kill it for a few reasons. first of all, its reliant on it. secondly, ubuntu by itself already has a few million users and i doubt more than half of them are going to leave it for something google leeched off of. the last reason is windows and mac are already infinitely more popular than linux, yet linux is still growing. ubuntu at this point isn't going anywhere except ahead
i think i will stick to windows since its more popular and will probably be more compatible with software than the Google OS even if i do love the programs that google makes
And it's more important that it is free as in "freedom" than beeing free as in "free beer", so if you don't like it, then modify it to your liking. It's posible! (and then share!)
my school has linux, its ok but the only problem is no control alt delete and my friends logged out with internet running then they could'nt use the internet because it was running in the ackground and they could shut it off.
I got you on that! Vista is my primary but Ubuntu is all I use to do changes to my site and add new posts :) So I guess Vista is my gaming machine and Ubuntu is my work machine :)
Goobuntu is the nickname of a variation of the Ubuntu distribution of the Linux operating system. Goobuntu was developed for internal use on employee workstations.
There have been rumors that Google would distribute their own version of Ubuntu Linux, but those rumors have been denied by Mark Shuttleworth, founder of the Ubuntu project.
If by different you mean "have to waste hours finding the right drivers, codecs and work-arounds when ubuntu-restricted-extras doesn't work," then I agree.
Lol. Apparently you didn't read up on restricted extras. Restricted extras only gives you flash quicktim and simple mp3/DVD support. Oh and restricted extras wont give you drives. Just another poser that can't look up what he is going to do before doing it. :/ There are a lot of people like you out there.
No. I actually bothered to find all the drivers, codecs and work-arounds. I'm one of the few who made it through Linux set-up.
The point is it was a bloody headache, and very *hard* (which means my point is still valid). It's a nice operating system, very pretty and dependable (except for wireless), but it's not easy.
Its not hard though. What people see as hard anymore is having to click 3 times instead of one. Try decompiling and recompiling the kernel. Thats scratching the surface of "hard"
Goo chrome runs like 3 processes (shown in task manager) and uses 10-30MB of RAM per-process.
And I can't wait to see the Goobuntu OS and ta give it a try.
For the techies, linux is easy, even for the newbe's (no offense) that start out only using linux and not windows, some ending up being stucked into the MS line of dead-ends, restrictions and bloatware.
Linux is easy for me, I ain't a hacker or programmer, but its a hell of allot faster than XP and Vista/7 (which i ain't gonna use).

So take this video down you sound like an ignorant prick...ugh..

Hey Whats Up No Need To Capitalize Every Word But I Don't Think Google Is Making An Operating System.
You Could Say They Are Making A Linux-Based One But That's Technically A Distro.
Besides, I'm Already Using Regular Ubuntu. It's Great.

But for now I have an XP.
I'm getting a Mac which is a lot better than both of them..

iPityForiPod 3 years ago
Not true, Macintosh is very restricting, and it is not hacker proof. Mac has no viruses but many security holes. Its not as stable as Linux either.
UbuntuLee 3 years ago
Getting a mac won't make the computing experience any better, mac ain't better than vista cause it still has DRM, same with itunes.
By the way, DRM is Digital Restrictions Management. The iPhone (iDope) has it also, making it impossible to backup stuff.
