many people only take the road to open tuning with SIMPLE instructionThis is good. Get stuck in BUT have someone close to record it. You will forget it . Dont be a nit.
This is not all that informative. If you know enough about guitar playing to know who Richard Thompson is then you probably already know how to tune your guitar, even in DADGAD. But it is still fun to see Richard and hear him talk about the guitar. Thank you for posting.
I remember seeing the full video of the brief clip of BB King showed at the beginning of this video in its entirety on You Tube ages ago. I'd love to see it again. Where is it?? Can anyone upload it??
I met Thompson briefly in a coffee shop in Eugene, Oregon a few years back. Very nice fellow, a bit shy. I told him I liked his music then left him alone (he was making a coffee run for the band).
anytime I went to see Richard in Tokyo (twice) it was full.
and Fairport Convention recorded a live concert there as well. Go to DisK Union in Shinjuku and you can see the whole world of Fairport, Ian Matthews, Sandy, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, box sets...you can't find in the USA...ah come on....
Schenker's German-Cockney! Most Europeans speak American English.

Love Richard! But was the blonde junky talking about his smashed guitar really necessary?

Thanks for this frogpondium...The varnish on Richards guitar tells you how much he must've used it over the years. Excellent post !

Presumably this video is for people who have never even seen a guitar before?

Pretty cool, glad you rescued the tape! Who wouldn't want a tutorial from Richard? Now if I could just play Vincent Black Lightning the way he does!!

Crikey, Schenker has a weird accent. Kinda Tufnellesque.

Is Richard Thompson well known in Japan?

No, he is not famous in Japan.
I think that it is a very disappointing thing.
