  • excelent interpretation!

  • OMG!? It's not you?

  • capture the essence of what Ch-Marie Widor wanted to share with us all,for a long time to come

  • Perfect tempo! It is good to hear the piece at its fullest without the blur of sound that occurs when others take it to the race track. Beautifully played! Bravo!

  • beautifully done; played with passion and convincingly!!!!

  • That was absolutely breathtaking! My hat is off to you, sir...

  • I remember playing that in Leicester Cathedral in the UK and blowing out one the windows above the North Door

  • There is a perfect tempo, in my opinion, at which this piece should be played to sound great. Mr. Fiore, you've locked that tempo in, and now my 'sweet spot' is all beat up! Excellent!!!

  • amazing I wish I could play like that

  • Tempo prenant, pulsation conservée d'un bout à l'autre, éclat du jeux...bravissimo Signore David Di Fiori

  • Should've sounded much better in mono since the pan is so weak. Remember, in mono, everything becomes stronger.

  • I greatly enjoyed this rendition of this piece. My only frustration occurred with the very slow download that meant I waited 20 minutes to watch the whole video.

  • I really enjoyed David's playing of this piece. Some say he's too fast? Is there a slower rendition that I might check out? Thx much.

  • @miesels No, he's pretty close to the regular timing of the piece. It's supposed to run between 5-6 minutes.

  • Fantastico ! Stupendo ! Bravo David Defiore !

  • sounds like heaven

  • Excellent is a word....very well done.

  • Brano ben eseguito !! caspita che memoria !!

  • Fantastic playing! Fast enough and comfortable for such a piece. Not to mention the memory playing without music.

  • I heard the angels singing! cocot1919

  • Nothing beats a great organ!

  • Oh, Yesss!

  • Sorry, way too fast for me - I like Widor's interpretation and speed! However, I acknowledge the great teacher, Mr Fiore, as one of the best I have heard. p.s. I bet he's glad he studied his arpeggio technique!! Well done.

  • Oh my God... Incredible!!! Fantastic!!!

  • Bravo

  • Fantastic. The organ of tubes is really the king of the instruments. Congratulations to the excellent organist.

  • Fantastic. The organ of tubes is really the king of the instruments. Congratulations to the excellent organist.

  • After Will and Kate walk out of the church at the royal wedding, this piece will be played!

  • do you have a daughter named Shari Fiore? She is the assistant organist at my church.

  • i am astounded by people who can play this that brilliantly. i practiced this for hours on end but still get a few mistakes aaaaaaaaah

  • @dingdongdoly I've just about got it down :D it's so awesome to be able to play it :D

  • When are you coming to the Sydney Town Hall ? I have heard a few But THIS hAS KNOCKED ME OFF MY SEAT. thanks

  • Love you David, you are the best!

  • An exceptionally fine performance!! Timing is perfect!!

  • the pause and Explosion at 3:50...marvelous!

  • Awesome!!! Jubilant!!!

  • I love when he plays at the 3:30

  • This has to be the grandest, showiest, most flamboyant, moving organ masterpieces ever composed! I am putting in my will that this will be played as the recessional at my funeral! LOL, no for certain! ;-)

  • He crosses his hands at 5:01 and I don't know if that's for fun or required to play it, but either way it looks cool

  • Outstanding performance!!

  • Nice!

  • Very well played indeed!!! I also think the tempo was perfect as was the registration. I heard a recording of Widor playing this himself at the organ of St. Sulpice where he took a very slow tempo, despite his published tempo markings. Tempo must always be governed by the particular instrument and the acoustic. There is a video of this Widor played by Diane Bish, another well-known American organist where the work is destroyed by a tempo which is way too fast. I would invite you to compare.

  • Wonderful to look at his hands, but also his face :) !

  • Bravo!!!!! beautiful!

  • Goose-bump good!

  • Wow...is wish i could play like that!

  • Played entirely too fast. Certainly not the way Widor intended.

  • @gabelawr32

Sorry but you are mistaken about that tempo being too quick..Widor's tempo marking is about 100 and an earlier version 118 or there abouts...this performance is very near 104....

  • @daviddifiore I agree, the notes are quite clear and the arpeggios not muddied at all. Very well played actually.

  • @gabelawr32 I think its perfect pace....you play it too slow people will actually fall asleep!

  • fiore... bravo, all the work that Widor would have truely admared.WONDERFULLY rendered with all the true passion and skill of a truely beautiful organist... i have never heard it played better...

fiore... Beautifully played and i have never heard it played better... you are a true maestro.

  • fiore... bravo

  • GREAT!!! this sond are so wonderful find it so great to hear this organ GREAT!!!!!

  • What a wonderful rendition ! I remember at my old school, our director of music played this often...we all though he was showing off...but were frightfully impressed nevertheless !!

  • Well done, this piece is so dynamic

  • Very good :)

  • Trnava Rules :D Bazilika Minor Trnava Slovakia :D ( Hrubý kostol ) tomu vravím prevetranie organu :D

  • David...what a treat to see you here on YouTube. I've had the priviledge of hearing you play in and around Seattle many times. And it never, ever ceases to be a treat for the ears and spirit. Thank you for sharing your musical gift. You are missed here, my friend.

  • This is the way an organ is meant to be heard, played the way an organ should be played.. Masterful!

  • excellent piece of music, brilliantly played. Having this piece played out at my wedding soon.

  • amongst all those versions of this piece on youtube, some played by famous organists on famous organs, this is the best one i found so far. congrats, this is celestial beauty and majesty.

  • There's alot of versions of Widor's Organ #5 Tocatta out there.....and this is one of the best I've heard. Played even on a slow heavy action organ this is great!

Just the right tempo for this organ and space. Awesome!!

  • romeo5619. amazing . truly brilliant

  • Amazing...best i've heard thus far

  • Phenomenal - not a piece of music in front of him. Wow!

  • C'est la version la plus virtuose que j'ai entendue pour cette magnifique symphonie de Widor ! MERCI !

  • Brought me to tears. Great choice of tempo. Thank you for posting.

  • My partner plays this for fun, but even he says this is good. What is with the wobbling head when playing organ? My other half does not have this affliction. Even the hands crossed and feet doing what they do is no excuse. Is it for dramatic effect? If so it has failed. J

  • @jameskinmond1980 Style and interpretation, my good man. Just like your other half is sure to have his individual way of playing it. I always found it good to just close my eyes and listen... unless you're driving, of course, and if you are, WHY ARE YOU WATCHING YOUTUBE??? :) har har... :)

  • Wow! This is gorgeous~~~and just the perfect tempo for a wedding recessional. So majestic! Thanks for posting. Am keeping this one......

  • Incredible... This is the best ever performance I have heard of this magnificent work. Too bad I didn't listen more to David while I was in Seattle. The energy, rigour and stability of explosion of passion...

  • Magnificent! Sound, playing, tempo. Sounds almost like a royal procession.

David, do you have a CD??

  • Probably the best rendition on You Tube - not slow (and not too fast as a lot of them are!) and played with feeling.

  • Is that tubular-pneumatic action? Either way, great sound for a 1912 instrument!

  • This is SO HARD that his hands appear to have seven or eight fingers each! The video looks like on of those claymation things where the musician simply grows extra fingers to play the music! VERY GOOD! :)

  • Bloody hell, that was good! Thanks for posting that.

  • Brilliant playing, an interpretation of both fire and majesty in incredible abundance! Highly recommended, especially for the wonderful close ups of the hands and feet and keyboards and pedal console in furious action. One feels palpably the swirling motion inherent in this monumental score, and the finale is gratifyingly magnificent. The audio quality is of high caliber, and the console comes alive in this memorably fascinating and intimate portrait of a great artist at work.

  • Nice plaing! Could someone tell me what those brown tabs above top keyboard were?

  • @PipeOrganistSC - I believe thebron tabs are to set the presets.

  • @PipeOrganistSC Well, I'll try again! :-/

I believe the brown tabs are to set the presets.

  • thanks.

  • @PipeOrganistSC PipeOrganistSC...Branchporter is correct. Many European organs use what is called a Freie Kombination (Free Combinations) where each stop has little toggle switches that set it on or off for a given piston number. It's usually quite limited, but works well.

  • very nicely done - horrible STRAIGHT pedal board

  • Stunning...Just stunning.. made the hairs on my neck stand up!

  • David, you played this for my first wedding. What a joyous way to exit the sancuary! I always think of my father when you play this, and I know he's sitting and listening! Glad to find you on youtube - I. Rieman

  • David, I love to listen to your interpretation of the Widor. Your performances always make musical sense to me.

  • Hello TSB1 regarding the issues of tempo/timing ...(actually mine in 5:52 counting the actual start/finish) ..This space is reverberant, the organ is tubular pneumatic, and hence a slower tempo for that space and action is appropriate. Widor marks the tempo around 100-116 depending on the edition.. and plays it on the slower side ...to play it that way in every situation is probably a bit suspect. Whatever the tempo, the interpretation needs lots of energy! .

    David di Fiore

  • HI David and thanx for the info. This piece is a favorite of mine and you do a fine job with it! :) I'm a fan of Dan Millers, and his playing on the Calvary organ. Watching and listening is more satisfying that just a cd playing! Keep up the good work. TSB

  • Just a question for watchers....I have found several different speeds that this piece is played and what is The "right" speed? Some are as few as 5.01 mins to over 6 mins like this was played. Personally I prefer the way David played. :) Diane Bish plays it to fast I feel. Just wondering...

  • I totally agree -- Diane Bish plays it WAY too fast!

  • David played this piece at my wedding in 1975 and he was an amazing musician at that time. Listening to him play the tocatta now, I realize he is even more amazing (if that is possible). David, I am so thankful for your gift of music to the Clark family. Every time I hear it I am moved by the incredible beauty of this piece. I was thrilled to find you on You Tube!

  • This was such an outstanding performance of one of the greatest pieces of music ever written for the organ! Thank you for sharing your wonderful musical talent with us. God bless you with many more years of great success and musical joy.

  • Thank you for saying what I totally want to say also. If you are anywhere near, David will give a recital 7:30pm Fri. Oct. 16 at Methodist church (1415 NE 43rd St. Seattle). Am looking forward to breathing in full beauty of his music.

  • Thank you, I would LOVE to be there, but I live in NY and will not be able to. I am certain it will be a magnificent performance. Hope you enjoy it to the fullest!

  • David it's Gina, Betty's Granddaughter, you are MAGNIFICENT!!! I'm so glad you're on youtube so I can listen to your amazing artistry in Indiana! I love you and you're fabulous, can't wait to see you. And if you ever come through or visit Chi town, you better let me know. :)

  • I have always felt that mankind has devised two things so far that gives all people even a bit of pause: the pipe organ and the steam locomotive. You can't help but stop and look on in awe. Youtube is, happily, a healthy repository of many fine examples of both, but this one stands out in terms of a happy confluence of virtuosities: organ construction, organ music composition, and the playing of both. Well done, David; I have become a fan.

  • David, you are a magnificent performer! This is one of my favorite organ pieces and your talent and gift of music are quite evident in this performance. Thank you and God bless you.

  • Beauty breathes...

  • Well deserved applause!...masterful performance! One of piece of music that gives me goose bumps.

  • A very good performance, I can just feel that rush going down my spine.

Well done. And I see a roller sweler pedal on that organ! ;-)

  • looks like an old Klais
