  • Thank you Lakland. Very professional and helpful.

  • The measurement should read .008" (which is already very thin)...NOT .0008" (that's just ridiculous). This guy needs to perhaps SHOW us the ruler/gauge measurment. Also, I don't believe he is correct by saying 5/64ths of an inch and so on. That's just FAR too low. My lakland came from the factory with 5/32nds of an inch (which is exactly double to what he is talking about here). Basically, I think this guy is an idiot.

  • Thanks...

  • Great video, but you guys really need to learn the metric system

  • @ryanpedlow Indeed. 5/64ths and a 1/4. My head hurts just call in mm and be done.

  • Will it work for a Musicman-Sterling Bass also?

  • yeah, the discrepancy of .008 and .080 is quite large. pay attention here guy :)

  • I loved it thanks!

Do you know where I can find some help with my Epiphone Viola?

Maybe you can do a setup on this bass?

Everyones having trouble with those darn viola basses.. Really!

    Thanks Again :)

  • Great vid! I have an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro and I was wandering if you could tell me what the pickup height should be, I haven't been able to find info on it. Any general setting I should start at?

  • Hi, What's the brand of this bass guitar? Thanks!

  • i got a 5 string ibanez with a crazy backbow and a truss rod that just won't budge

  • Normally you can see a truss rod adjustment result in some hours. Its weird the fact that he did it and ckeck the measures inmediatly...

  • If I have buzz after 17th fret, no buzz above 17th fret, what should I do?

  • Lakland basses sounds nice just as MTD basses do, still this is

interesting information for a bass player as myself to see how they

    make these basses.

  • Yeah, you're making a HUGE mistake in this clip, mate. It's not eight thousands, it's eight hundreds. No way a credit card has a thickness of 0.008". It's rather 0.08". Now I have to get another set of filler gauges. Bollocks.

  • @andyKCIUK Don't get rid of your 008 blades yet. Carl says the approximate thickness of a BUSINESS card is around 008-010. I put my digital caliper on several business cards I have around the house and they measure around 011-015 in thickness-YMMV. For instance, the steel rule he uses to set string height is around 040-050 in thickness. Good heavens, you could throw a cat through an 080 gap between the straight edge and the 6th fret.

  • @andyKCIUK

    right from the lakland site:

Our necks are designed to work well with about .008" relief (about the thickness of an average business card)

    business card, not credit card

  • @andyKCIUK The average U.S. credit card is 1/32" or .0312" thick. Do yourself a favor and buy a String Action Gauge from Stewart-MacDonald luthier supply in U.S.. It rests on the frets evenly and is the easiest and best way to get precision setup measurements. I find it strange Carl does not use it in this vid

  • Are sure it's 0.008" filler gauge? I've just bought a set of them and the eight thousands leaf is REALLY thin... your one looks so much thicker. Please clarify.

Apart from that it's the best video on setting a bass I've found on youtube. Great job! Regards.

  • at 3.09 he talks about a piece of blade, I'm not english fluent, i eard "eight tousand chip stock" ! whats that? Whats the thickness of that blade, or the correct dimentions?

    Thanks'

    João, from PORTUGAL

  • @jayp3p 8 thousands(of an inch) shim stock. try a "feeler guage" for automotive spark plugs.

  • Admiral Adama' s bass setup lesson

  • Great set up video lesson. Easy to follow and now I feel like an expert... Kind of. LOL. Again thanks for this video. Totally helped out my Bass.

  • lakland you guys have it it right ,I have a 55-02 and man.. let me tell you its right on,great action ,no tension a joy to play!!

  • Is this Carl Pedigo from Chicago? I might have jammed with you in the 70s. My name is Dave Bell, a friend of Bill Pekoc and Jim Desmond. Let me know and we can chat. If not, ignore this. Thanks.

  • Amen. We just shot 5 new videos yesterday.

Should start seeing them in a month or two

  • Carl is the man! If he sets it up, its set up right an with a reason.

  • I think Carl charges $30-$50 for a setup.

If you are in the Chicago area this weekend(Oct23rd), Lakland is hosting an Open House from 1-5. Carl will be on hand.

  • about how much is a setup at a shop?

  • We are shooting more videos this weekend with Carl.

If you have any good topics for demo, let me know

  • thank you, i found this extremely helpful.

  • When adjusting the truss rod, which direction tightens it and which loosens it?

  • @radioballetmusic Quick rule of thumb on this:

    Right = tight

    Left = loose

  • i have a bit of an issue with my lakland, the nut for the truss rod won't budge, im afraid to put too much force on it , and when it does move it moves like a millimeter and it creaks. help!!

  • Is someone playing "Owner of a Lonely Heart" in the background? Lol.

  • I just ordered my DJ4 and I CANNOT wait for it to get here! (said it might take a couple of months, though...) :-(

  • Uh...you didn't retune after adjusting the relief!! The tension will affect the relief needed!

  • No offense, but I giggled at 8:02. ;D

  • If my bass only buzzes at the first and second frets, does this mean that I most likely need fret work?

  • I wish I could afford one, I've been using Fender for 3 years.

  • The bit about 1/4 of a turn on the saddle height = 1/4 of a 64th at the 12th fret is increadibly useful to know. Saves an aweful lot of trial and error.

Thanks for that, and thanks for the great basses.

  • This great - thanks Lakland! Great basses< I love mine.
