  • People can say whatever they want about William Shatner but, at the end of the day he's a very genuine person. You can't really fake sincerity!

  • Bill, I just have to say you just do not age, you look like you are still in your late 40's early 50's ! You are the MAN !

  • I remember her at the 1994 SDCC, had a small brief but interesting conversation on her husband, and wanted to discuss more about his writings but at the time my wife to be and I were about to leave to get some things taken care before the wedding at balboa park. Since then I sent her 2 emails and got 1 back and now she's gone. it's still an empty spot on my heart.

  • I got to meet Majel years ago at a convention in Plano,Tx. She was so gracious to all the fans and just such a lovely lady. She will be missed just as Gene has been.

  • She did live to complete her dialogue as the voice of the ship's computer, only two weeks before her passing.

  • "I hope they grieve in the manner they see fit."

    Wut?

  • @TheRantingBrit If you've never lost someone really close to you you'll not understand this. The time and sentiments that need to be expressed can be ruined by others intrusions and beliefs of how you should emotionally behave at the time. Your feelings get repressed and you don't get the chance to grieve properly and never get the opportunity to say goodbye properly. It can cause psychological issues later. This is what I think he means.

  • @sonyfier I get that, it just seems like an odd thing to say, as if it doesn't really need saying.

  • @TheRantingBrit I must admit it surprised me too for the same reason at first. However, I suppose a lot of celebrities are ultra sensitive to intrusions at the best of times, let alone the worst. And William Shatner some years ago most certainly wasn't given the time to grieve over his then wife properly. I'm sure you recall what I'm talking about. I think it was just his colored cryptic way of saying to give the family some space and it probably does need spelling out to some overzealous fans.

  • @sonyfier No, I wasn't aware of that. I just looked it up, and that was before I knew anything about Bill Shatner. I was only eight at the time and barely a Trek fan. But I get what you mean about the fans/media needing to back off.

  • "I'm so sorry she didn't live to play that part." I have to lol at this, it's such a Hollywood thing to say. Shatner is a god, no question, but just maybe there is more meaning to her death than the fact she didn't live to voice the computer in the latest Star Trek knock-off. ;)

  • This was sweet of him to say....very elequent.

  • framed poster of Kirk and Picard hanging up in Shatner's office. Nice

  • she was the voice of the ship!

  • I loved Majel so much that I named my first girl kitty Majel. It also means "help" in Cherokee according to the search engine of google and the correlating website that was brought up.

  • They should've put Majel on Will It Blend!

  • ... According to IMDB, she did play the computer. She passed away before the movie was launched, but it was said at the time she was able to record her role.

  • is shatner a jew ???

  • LOL totally didn't expect that when I clicked on the vid. "Leonard Nimoy's tall!"

  • it really sounds to me that shat didnt go out of his way to get close to any of the other actors on the series

  • @brabon1 It seems that way, shatner was the star and didn't make attempts to get to know the others. I only hope he can fix things with George Takei and the others before its to late, they don't have much time left :-(

  • @asmiley200

Maybe he's just being honest. Often stars say they were close to someone when they were'nt really at all

  • @asmiley200 - His face looks puffy like spends a lot of time with the bottle. Is he a big drinker? That being said, I just learned that he's 80 years old in March. He damn good for his age!

  • Actually, she died shortly after recording her part.

  • he could still get away with being a 55 year old kirk!

  • @asmodeusix Was she in Voyager? (Beyond the computer voice.)

    Signed,

    A Trekker from September 8th, 1966!

  • KIrk is a Jerk

  • @mastermonarch ...Kirk was smart enough to parlay Kirk into other opportunities following the end...he got way more publicity than any of the other characters, and a few were predictably, bitter. Abrams had no intention of using him, and made some cover story about "how can we get him in for a cameo"? - he's a funny guy, but is thought of as a jerk because he has bypassed a lot of the conventions ....

  • @SuperOmnicron good point I guess.

  • THIS IS A TRIBUTE TO MAJEL. STOP USING THE 'F' WORD AND LEARN TO SPELL: BREAK MEANS TO SMASH SOMETHING, BRAKE IS HOW YOU STOP A CAR.SHHEESH!

  • @mastermonarch

You know you suck. Actually it was 6 movies not 5. Sorry but Shatner is awesome and get your facts right before you speak.

Oh rest In peace Majel and Gene. You both are the greatest and will be miss.

  • Comment removed

  • @mastermonarch while it is quite possible that he wouldn't break his car for you, he probably didn't know Majel Roddenberry as well as he knew others on set. she wasn't in a ton of episodes (compared to the others)

  • @mastermonarch Well according to the guy who played Scotty he did say about 5 words to him in 20 years , offcamera

  • 0:17 "And a tailwagger" lol at the 'tailwag'

  • what had always astonished me was how beautiful she was in her golden years. On next generation I was stunned when I first realized she was playing Deanna Troi's Mother. Her passing brough about the end of an Era for Star Trek. Rest In peace Majel. I hope you and Gene are happy together once more. And i know the world will miss you.

  • What a wonderful comment. I completely agree with you! : )

  • she voiced the enterprise computer all the way through the new movie!

  • @pamalutracamchannel I liked it when she was the computer on Voyager. She told Captain Janeway to make her own coffee in a sassy and defiant way ! LOL!

  • yeah i think i remember that episode. i cracked up. i wonder if theres a clip on youtube

  • i believe she did get a line in Star Trek IX

  • no that was not her on the comp voice sounded nothing like her.

  • I think it was, she did the voice before she died.

  • Actually that was her voice.. before she died

  • I wonder who will voice the computer system in the next Star Trek movie under the helm of J.J. Abrams, since Majel Barrett-Roddenberry did it one last time before she died?

  • "I didn't know her very well, but what I did know was...ummm...great." How does he come up with this stuff?

  • The statement was from when he first met her in the 60's. He has probably had years to know her better until her passing.

  • Pt2

Upon arriving home I was in a hurry to hang my prized trophy on the wall.STUPIDLY I grabbed one of those white sticky picture hooks and used that.About a week later I was in another room and heard the smash out in the front room. I went out only to see my plate in a thousand pieces on the floor. The sticky hook had let go..I was pretty shook up about it. Anyway,..Thank you Majel,..Rest in peace.

  • I met Majel years ago at a convention.I bought a 24kt gold trim plate with a gold 1701a in a space hanger orbiting earth.Majel,at the time was only signing photos, she saw the plate I had and excused herself for a moment and came back with a gold colored marker and signed the black background.I was offered $300 for it buy a vendor that was selling Trek memorabilia that saw her sign it, i refused his offer and thanked Majel and went home. (CONTINUED)

  • Great new bio (All About Jeffrey Hunter) has both Shatner and Majel Rodenberry in it (dedication to William Shatner)! Bio at amazon!

  • GOD bless Majel!

  • hi Bill, will we fans ever see your disaster on the coastliner 1978 film get to dvd ? it's almost 2010 MGM has no contact area on there website but they own the film have mercy ...almost 2010

  • She's the only person to perform in every incarnation of Star Trek. She's one of my heroes :)

  • Personally I think they should have dropped the frame device for Enterprise and just focused on the ceremony.

  • she played deanna trois mother on star trek tng

  • Majel, Star Trek's loving step-mom! :) :)

Shatner says she didn't get to do the computer voice but she did, right? Still, a nice tribute.

    We love you Majel :)

  • i didn't know she had passed away RIP

  • Yeah... didn't she pass away like 9 days or something after doing the computer voice for the new movie? Either way, she will be missed, Star Trek won't be the same without her

  • Does Shatner EVER age? He looks fucking 50!

  • he still looks younger than that with that nice gray hair

  • yeah my grandpa is 73, he can barely walk. looks like bills gonna be around for another 50. RIP Majel, we love you

  • @ItalianoConfuso It seems so true. It is almost as if it is naturally abnormal. It is amazing to think that he is 79 years old now. I mean that he's not just old, he's getting really old now. But, it is really tough to grasp this for not only based on this sense, but also in the sense that he is still quite energetic, silly, goofy, fun, charismatic, outgoing at his age and stage, and he is continuing to act on a regular basis in a professional sense.

  • @ItalianoConfuso Not to mention he has a very youthful attitude and a real zest for life. He definately packs the virility of a man half his age. Not to mention he isn't afraid to make fun of himself.

Even if he was never Kirk, I would have tremendous respect for the guy based on his attitude alone

  • @ItalianoConfuso

The Toupe and the good foot you can buy, when you have money helps.

  • @ItalianoConfuso No, Shatner never ages. Remember, he was in the Nexus. Time has no meaning there.

  • @ItalianoConfuso Its because of the Nexus. Shatner will always be that age.

  • @ItalianoConfuso yes from the thumbs up it seems people like him to be 56 y/o not exactly 50 lol but who knows if he has i chick he is literally fucking a 50 lmao

  • @ItalianoConfuso

you're a bad judge of ages, clooney is nearly fifty

  • First lady of Star Trek. RIP

  • A sweet remembrance...I think he actually wishes he had the chance to get to know her better.

  • I think its really nice that she did get to voice the computer on the 09 Star Trek flick. It sort of completes the journey for her and us the fans, I wish JJ had let Shatner do the voice-over; the "space the final etc." speech like the he did in the series. It would have been a nice way to involve him in the new film without having to write a part.

  • Nice tribute there, bill seems a top bloke

  • A nice tribute, but Mr. Shatner's exhibiting his age. As someone else said she was Number 1 in the pilot, Nurse Chapel in the original, the computer's voice and Troi's mother in TNG. She has been around since the beginning. I think Shatner is trying to be nice given his reputation.

  • He's mistaken. She did get to play the voice of the new Enterprise computer. Not sure what they'll do for the next one. They should use Counselor Troi's voice.

  • Holy shit, she died? SRSLY I had no idea. Man am I ever out of the loop.

  • Nimoy ... tail wagger? What the hell does that mean. No wonder people might take Mr. Shatner a bit too seriously.

  • I think "tail wagger" means someone craving attention. But I could be wrong. I've never heard the idiom before.

  • God it just means PLAYFUL as in prankster, joking, playful. As in wagging a tail on a friendly dog that kind of thing.

  • It seems to mean that he doesn't hide his excitement when he gets excited.

  • shatner seems like a sound man.....

  • very classy tribute.

  • Majel was the original Number 1 on the 1st pilot, Nurse Chapel, the computer voice on the 1st & next generation, and Troi's mother. Like Nimoy she was there at the very begining.

  • When did Roddenberry die....what was his last series he helped make?

  • I think the year was 1991 or 92 right after The Generation tv series had started.

  • I loved her at Troi's mom and the computer voice on Next Gen. I think she showed up in a Babylon 5, too, if I'm not mistaken. RIP, Majel. Sci-Fi nuts all over miss you lots!

  • women just don't get it

  • Ohh had no idea she died..where was I then was very little said about in UK as far as I know..Am sorry to hear!

  • Me neither till I just looked it up. She was one of the people I wanted to try and meet in life since she was so closed to Gene.

  • When I first met her at a convention, I didn't know who she was. When I met her again years later, at yet another convention, she was the nicest lady. RIP.

  • Considering how shabby her and Gene both treated most members of the cast, Bill is a gentleman to say the least.

  • Any sources to substantiate this? According to Wil Wheaton, Gene treated him very nicely.

  • what a wonderful comment Bill, you are a true gentlemen!!!

  • I'm 33, I am Already getting ready for my " Life " when I hit 77, Todays World, You have too, Well, I also Love Nice Things.

  • I Do Feel Sad, BUt, We All Die, It's How We Live that Matters !

  • I Envy to have " My " Office look like this when I hit 77, Not Acting, more Medical, Free Time, Enjoying Life

  • she will be missed indeed....

  • Yes You Did, Read the Ending Credits,

    Your Very Wise !

  • Lwaxana Troi was one of my favorite TNG characters. Mrs Roddenberry was larger than life.

  • Comment removed

  • Well put, she will be missed.

  • wow she was hot in the series

  • Well said Captain! I will miss Mrs Roddenberry's voice on the new adventure. It would have added tremendous continuity to the franchise. I cannot wait for the premier!

  • She's in the new film pal, she recorded dialogue for the ship's computer voice a few weeks before her passing :-)

Enjoy the film, even more I hope.

  • Beautifully said, Mr. Shatner!

  • nICE TO SEE jIMBO KIRK ,IN ACTION ONCE MORE ,AND A GREAT "DANNI CRANE'' IN 'B.L''!!

  • A beautiful testament to a beautiful lady! God Bless!

  • DrHoe77's comment was funny I agree, meat is tasy, get lost vegetarians ,lol.

  • One more thing, I also happen to agree with Agahara's comment below, I hate it when an actor is embarressed by their own body of work, and can't talk about it without a smirk on their face, just like David Duchovny for example.

  • What's awesome is that he always remembers and is proud of his time in doing star trek. He doesn't put it down, he doesn't pass it off... he always remembers it.

  • Star Trek made him. And what's even more admirable about Shatner is that that was all he needed to be the legend he is today. That ONE particular franchise. He already is a legend. As I've said over and over again.... Shatner is boss.

  • And one more thing. Thanks Bill, for the James Tiberius Kirk role and all of your roles, you will be and always be the best actor. And greetings as well. You're the best.... God bless you and... Live long and prosper...

  • I know it will be the same words but I've always liked Majel's computer VA. In fact, I even imitate the computer voice. I have been a trekkie for 10 yrs. Even with Macross, Star Wars, or even Homeworld, I still like Star Trek the best. Here at my place, they don't even know what Star Trek. I am one of the few people that liked Star Trek a lot. I want for this holy week to offer my belated condolences to Majel Barrett-Roddenberry. For all trekkies around the world, we will certainly miss you.

  • hey opening salvoe get over it. don't speak ill of the dead. she said one thing to you and that makes her a total bitch. time to stop being nine years old. never heard of forgive and forget. appreciate the talent. find peace.

  • Yeah I know your right of course, but you misunderstand i'm not dwelling on it I was merely offering my impressions of the woman.

  • Shatner is boss. As for Majel Roddenberry, I always liked her in Trek. As Chapel, the nurse who is so in love with Spock but it never went anywhere or Lwaxanna Troi, who threw herself at every man she saw stood out even a little. She seemed like such a pleasant woman, but then again I didn't know her personally of course. She also was one of a few I've been able to see to stay attractive into her 60s. Remember number one? Yeah man! Hot brunette yow!

  • really?

  • I met Majel in the autograph room of a Star Trek Convention and she was a delightful, sweet and funny woman to me and everyone else in line.

  • I realize you were deeply hurt by this as a nine year old child, but I'm positive you were remembering it probably incorrectly. She wouldn't be that much of a cunt - you just probably misunderstood her tone of voice. Often times, children don't the context of the tone. So.. Sure, dislike her - but c'mon, be smart about it. You were 9. We all remember shit with our own twisted view on it.

  • OMG The crazy trekkies are really starting to come out of the woodwork now ever since I posted that comment. lol Look dude I wasn't deeply hurt as you put it, im not THAT MUCH of a pussie, my point was it was no way to speak to a small kid she didn't even know, and how can you be positive that she wasn't that much of a cunt, do you know the woman personally? Look don't try telling me what I remember, I happen to be a trekkie myself, but I still know that these people are only actors not saints..

  • ...and should not be revered like saints, im very sorry if ive shattered the impeccable image all you trekkies have of these people but you really need to accept that they are just people with their own flaws just like the rest of us, and get a life. I think it is very sad that ive gotten such a reaction over my comments about Barret, you'd think id said that Jesus was a prick or something, the fact is the woman was not perfect just like the rest of us, and just coz she was a cast member of ...

  • Yah, you're right. You weren't deeply hurt by this, nor still bothered by it. You're thirteen pages of retort totally agree. ;)

  • My thiteen pages of retort were to put all the treknatics back in line you fool, not because I was bitter.

  • ...Star Trek doesn't mean that she was. I only tried to say that one of her faults as a human being was that she was ignorant and rude, however even after clarifying my position I have no doubt these latest comments will get plenty of thumbs down, and I will probably get even more responses defending the woman from the die hard trekkies. The fact is my memory of the woman was that she was a right ignorant bitch, that was just my personal experience of having met her. So stop worshipping these...

  • ...so stop worshiping these people trekkies and get yourselves a life.

  • Whoa whoa whoa, who said we all felt like that? Who are you to talk like we all think the same way. As Kirk would say, you're stepping out of line, Mister.

  • LOL I hear ya man, I know there are some mateur trekkies out there, peace.

  • Well most of the ones I've met are completely awesome and open-minded. One I met was cocky and thought he knew everything but I put him in his place. Anyway, I just have to say just watch who you direct your retorts toward. That's all. Even mature trekkies have emotions and logic.

  • LMAO Awh buddy that was funny, "trekkies have emotions and logic" you sound like a vulcan. I know buddy I wasn't trying to insult anbody merely clarify my position that's all, are you talking about trekkies when you say some are open minded and completely awesome or the cast?

  • Heh, I have been able to incorporate elements of both human and Vulcan in my persona. haha! But I was talkin about trekkies. Some think they know everything and all the philosophies behind everything in Trek. But anyway, sall good. I know what you meant. Just some wouldn't by what you said, ya know?

  • lol Yeah man no worries peace.

  • I, too, am just now learning of Ms. Roddenberry's passing. May she go where others have gone before.

  • Very well spoken. Mr Shatner would have made a good Rabbi.

  • Sad to hear of her passing. She continued GR's legacy.......She will be missed..................Td

  • I regret I didn't learn sooner. This video is news to me.

  • huh i was under the impression that Majel either finished or at least got most of her dialouge finished in the new Star Trek movie.

Either way she was an amazing actress and she carried herself over the TNG very well, i was always amused when Woxana(sp?) would insuinate that Picard was having lewd thoughts about her before she beamed out :)

  • bill is class

  • Hay,Will you got some real fine poeple writing to you?

  • I has to say that I watched Stark Trek TNG for the the computers voice was so reasuring that things would some how work out . it took the scareness of some of the things in that show.

  • I'll stop eating meat when God stops putting it on the bones of really slow animals.

  • Freaking ubergeek CT tinfoil hat wearing goof

    STFU!!!

  • Submissive, uneducated, government fooled moron. Learn about radiation in space, and come back to debate me when you have learned something!

  • Thanks you Mr Shatner for sharing this with us. It was a terrible loss just as Gene's death was.

  • I miss Majel. I always loved her appearances on TNG and DS9. She also had a great voice for the computer effects on Star Trek movies and TV shows. We all miss you Majel and Roddenberry!

  • Shaddup about the seals; you have no idea what you are really discussing....

  • That was nice. Bill is a classy guy.

  • RIP, Number One. Thank you Bill for honoring her and thank you Majel for the joy you gave us in your acting.

  • She died of Cancer!

  • Bill Shatner is a great guy.

His book is good to( for ST fans).

  • how did majel die? what happened? can anyone tell me?

  • Transporter accident....(-_-)

  • Was she playing an alien in that picture at 0:57? Her eyes look completely black.

I thought sure she had blue eyes.

  • She does have blue eyes. She was wearing contact lenses to play the Betazoid.

  • So I guess the answer to my question, "Was she playing an alien in that picture?" would be a yes. I know about contacts for that purpose,

The clothes she is wearing aren't that odd. I haven't seen all Star Trek episodes so I wasn't sure.

  • Ronboy38, you're an ass! Have you never heard of having the grace and decency to say nice things about people who have died.

Also, Shatner admits openly that he didn't know Majel well at all. Well, for acquaintances like that, and public figures, too, say something nice or don't say or write anything at all.

As for Shatner's ego, he single-handedly took it on himself (as the lead actor) to make "Star Trek" into a success - and he succeded, too. He carried the program on his shoulders. DAW

  • Thank you Bill for this beautiful and moving tribute to the lovely Majel Roddenberry (Nurse chapel), my deepest sympathies and condolences to her family and friends. Het Doc
