  • greatest jazz improvisator

  • warm and virtouoso touch. Thand you for this!

  • Its almost like he can talk in piano language!

  • I am a big fan of Cool Jazz now!! THANKS OSCAR!

  • Beautiful. What I wouldn't give to play like that!

  • @stwnyc Well, why not give your full commitment then? ...easier said than done, right? :P But he, if anyone, surely works as an inspiration to do so!

  • I am so moved by this solo-thanks for posting. Undeniable and so sweet sounding. Beyond the beyond! One of my influences.

  • a great musician

  • he IS the piano

  • Saw him play with Herb Ellis and Ray Brown at the Blue Note back in the late 80's.

Classiest act I ever saw and heard!

  • Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Unique. His ideas just never end. The piano's great jazz and blues exponent. It's all there, Stride, Blues, Bop. He was born in Point St-Charles, a southern suburb of Montreal, Quebec. It took very little time for the world to discover this true genius. Your memory will live on forever Oscar ; your were a gift to Music

  • Épic solo...my inspiration to keep studing piano *_* from Brazil \o

  • Those aren't beads of sweat dripping off his head. His forehead is just crying tears of sweet joy over the beauty of his playing.

  • how can people dislike this video?!! the best solo i've come across on youtube

  • 29 wrong sperm

  • Yes.....

  • My hero!! I miss him dearly.

  • A man and a Piano :)

  • aquien le gusta el piano tiene que conocer a OSCAR PETERSON

  • truefire got me here and im glad it did

  • Does anyone know where this solo can be found and what it is called?

  • @marquez164 The name of the song is "I Can't Get Started" and you realize his solo is improvised, right? You can do what the rest of us jazz players do and transcribe it yourself. GLHF. :)

  • minha nova paixao!

  • WHO THE FUCK WOULD DISLIKE THIS???

  • Oscar the magnificent! One great phrase after another!

  • Oscar the magnificent. Just when you think he can't possibly do better, he does. Too bad I never heard him in person.

  • The world wasn't meant for people like Oscar, Count, Django and The Duke. They were destined for something much more.

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh babe.... THIS IS JAZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • those chords...

  • I wish one day i could play like Oscar Peterson! or at least herbie hancok

  • He's the best!

  • What a player.

  • What a player.

  • 26 people are def or waste!!

  • I can't help but shake my head in disbelief.

  • el mas grande de todos los pianistas que escuche el verdaderamente vuela sobre esas teclas

  • wtf?! 3:37 why is there someone snoring?!

  • @sk83502 it's oscar singing along. which is nice, in fact

  • Inigualável Mr. Peterson...I love...

  • Check this run 1:38

  • As exceptional as this is, many experiencing Oscar for the first time should know that he was in his sixties in this clip and a bit past his prime. Check out some of his work with the trio in the 50's and 60's, as well as his solo work in the 70's. There is a treasure trove of great performances of his on youtube. This man was a genius and deserves to be researched and enjoyed. We, as lovers of quality music, are fortunate he was recorded so often.

  • @ajcim -How very fortunate we are that so much of Oscar's brilliance still remains.

  • @paulostroff99 .......yes!!!!!!

  • I discovered this today, I'v never even heard his name before........ that makes me furious

  • @Niallphillips and you are finally enlightened!

  • @NarimatsuMusic enlightened isn't the word... I had a look at your channel, you're a pretty sick player yourself

  • @Niallphillips Thanks man!

  • @NarimatsuMusic just telln like it is

  • @Niallphillips What planet are you from????????? The greatest pianoplayer on earth :)

  • @Niallphillips Now discover Art Tatum. Oscar's favorite pianist.

  • @Niallphillips My God, where have you been my friend? Now take a look at Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson's mentor, friend, and favorite jazz pianist. Enjoy these giants!!!!!!! You're in for a treat.

  • 2:50 oscar's water ^^

  • I actually sold a synth (a Chase Bit One!) to this great man back in 1986 when I worked in a music shop... He really was a gentleman...

  • The greatest in order. Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Johnny Costa, Donald Lambert, Teddy Wilson

  • @helmut4lyfe I would add Keith Jarrett

  • @helmut4lyfe -Art Tatum,Oscar Peterson,Bill Evans,Errol Garner.

  • Melhor maneira de lembrar-me do meu Pai, O Pianista Paulinho Padilha - Floripa Sc.

  • 25 people are sorry they hit the wrong button...

  • I read that he used to practice 4-6 hours per day. Perfection like this does not come without work

  • I have to disagree with the greatest ever. Art Tatum jus might hold that title

  • @ChrisLilly32 If its anyone to hold the greatest title, it should be Johnny Costa, the man whom Art Tatum called "the white Tatum".

  • Hey anyone who knows if 2:50 - 3:04 is a song or is it just improvised? It's such a great melody. Oscar Peterson is btw the greatest...ever.

  • Amazing the greatest piano player of all time to me

  • @SnaggaToothCatFish -Perhaps ,but only after Art Tatum.

  • Herrliche Musik!

  • Wow look at him sweat...with passion

  • I'd like to tear each one of those stuffy cunts in the audience a new asshole...how can you not JUMP OUT OF YOUR SEAT SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS when someone finishes a solo like that?!

  • I miss going to watch him play, he changed the way i play music and my view on how you can be a big dreamer, I miss you Oscar

  • I am brand new to jazz. I'd been looking on different websites to find the best jazz recordings when I came across the name Oscar Peterson. I came to YouTube and typed in the name and watched the first video that came up. That was five minutes ago and now I'm a fan for life. A couple minutes in and I couldn't stop smiling.

  • Some days I look up to the sky and can't help thinking that somewhere...up there Oscar Peterson is happily playing great tunes on a 1 mile long Grand Piano

  • @MrSunflare No you don't. You just want a thumbs up.

  • @rthar hahahahahahha.

  • @MrSunflare Yes and miles is up there waiting for him...lol...and maybe Jimi (hendrix) is in the mix also

  • OH MY GOD HE IS AMAZING

  • @WarmBeans94 It shows that even the greats are human too. They get nervous like the rest of us, but they put in the time and effort that, regardless of the nerves, allows them to play the way they do. He's an athlete of that piano, make no mistake.
