We don't really need autonomous vehicles immediately. But right now, today, it would be nice if cars could stay in the lane, and not run into anything.

How hard would that really be?

@leobaby It wouldn't be hard at all, but there's really no point to it. When you want to switch lanes or turn or exit the highway you would have to turn it off and control the car yourself and plus the car would have to know when to stop at a traffic light or stop sign. For full automated control to be safe there would have to be a complete makeover of the traffic system.

@eah2119 Yeah, I meant like cruise control for interstate type situations. Tell the car stay in this lane, don't run into other cars, and travel at this speed. That would be nice.
