The TV show I nicked this from (on the BBC) made a lot of claims about 'decision making' going on in these structures. Anyone got any references about that kind of study? i.e. the show said that swarms of birds in the evening are a process to determine the foraging location in the following day. I never heard about that before seeing the show.
@danbolser funny, I got sent to some other swarm videos on facebook, made me think of the class i'm procrastinating right now studying soft computing. We had a section on swarm intelligence where we studied a few different methods ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization and we applied them to the travelling salesman problem.
