Hey can you help me? I'm trying to do this but the "hosts" in the etc file won't let me save or change anything. I constantly get denied. Do I need to disable something else first? I don't use firefox, but that shouldn't matter right? I really want to stop the adware, especially adbrite.

Can't hear you over the music! The hosts file you recommend BLOCKS 4OD in the UK and also BLOCKS TV SHOWS from YOUTUBE. Go sort that out and get back to us all to state which sites to allow to correct the problem.
