  • Eu nu am inteles de ce a vorbit ala in engleza daca era roman...oricum foarte frumoase dansurile romanesti.

  • Sorry but this it's not HORA this it's SArBA ,just a little slow compare with how we do in Oltenia !Hora means people toghether so should be dance in one circle and it's two step at left and two at right and in same time go front and then back !So not 2 people dance toghether but all make a circle.Sorry for my english !

  • Liviu Vasilica, one the great virtuosos of Romanian folk music, right up there with Maria Tanase, Ileana Sararoiu, and (from my grandpa's time) John Boldi and Neil Bondshu from IndIana Harbor, Ind. (which DID have a huge Romanian community, again from my grandparents' time, during the 20's all the way thru the 40's)

    RIP/DUMNEZEU SA-L IERTE ;)

  • @NeluThat70sKid HI my name is George Boldi MY grandpa's name is john boldi from Indiana harbor do you have his music?

  • @george9651 Hey there, George! I am from Fort Wayne, IN, and I grew up listening to John Boldi & his Orchestra on 78 RPM records- there was a set of 5 or 6 records with green labels, and a further set with blue labels. In addition, I believe i still have a 33 RPM album of his- although I have to search as it has been borrowed a few times over the years and is both slightly warped and a little scratched. My great aunt may still have her set of the 78's intact so I can check with her.

  • @mortalcoil1 Same here, I grew up listening to Boldi and his orchestra with my grandma and grandpa on tape cassettes my grandpa had recorded. After my grandpa's passing in 2000 (he was 84), my family and I had uncovered a whole bunch of vinyl records he had stashed away someplace, ONLY ONE ALBUM of Boldi was there. Even though I honestly could care less about ethnic heritage as overrated, believe me, Boldi's music is SO fun, so infectious, it virtually screams TRAIASCA ROMANIA!!! =)

  • @mortalcoil1 In fact, there is a book already out from the Ind. Hist. Society called "Peopling Indiana: The Ethnic Experience" which chronicles the var. ethnic groups of Indiana, and it does have a chapter on Romanians written by Dr. Mary Leuca, PhD. I also got the opprotunity to meet and have dinner with her, she is SO knowlegdeable about all things Romanian. Additionally, the chapter she wrote was also her dissertation from Purdue in the late 70's, you should check IPFW for a copy

  • LIVIU VASILICA TELEORMANEAN ca si mine :D ....

    RIP LIVIU VASILICA

  • @ady2108 defapt in centru-est al sardegnei exista cuvinte romanesti

  • I'm a 2nd gen Romanian/Canadian and have never really heard much of any of this music. My grandfather left me a huge stack of old records from Romania and I'm just now listening to them and trying to find their titles on You-tube. Romania interests me, but all I can find are bits and pieces.

  • Hey madcapromanian, if my opinion is of any importance, but from one Romanian to another, let me offer you some good worthwhile advice: KEEP AT IT and you'll DEFINITELY reap the rewards. You say you've found nothing but bits and pieces, I, myself have found OODLES for the past couple of years (and, needless to say, I've having quite a ball with it as well). In fact, if you like, I could give you a few websites in English on all this such as:

  • --versatile Romanian singer Maria Tanase, the "national songbird of Romania", their own Edith Piaf

--Eng. lyrics on some of Maria Tanase songs (still better than none in my book)

--webblog by a Romanian-Jewish expate from NYC now living in Hungary, travels all throughout East Europe (including the Rom. region of Transylvania)

    --and there's always Wikipedia

Hope this helps you in your search!/te doresc bucurie cu sincere!

  • If you want some Romanian folk music give me a message

  • @madcapromanian

you should come to Romania...it's a really beautiful country and the people are great. we have a lot of traditions...:D

  • @madcapromanian

you should search romanian people in love with these. If you want just send me messages ;) Have a nice day

  • @madcapromanian

try to find Oltenia songs, the specific dance is so called "sarba olteneasca"

  • @madcapromanian hey, just ask and we'll show you the way to romanian music :) although, I think by now you've found your way around the internet

  • From Cluj-Napoca, Romania, EU, I salute the canadians Vlady and Sandu from Winnipeg, Canada ! You are the best ! We love you, guys ! Keep on dancing ! Cheerio ! Florentina-Diana

  • The music is interpreted by the great rapsod Liviu Vasilica and his group from Vlasca-Teleorman. It's interesting that, while Vlasca is adjacent to Oltenia, and the song's words clearly refer to Oltenia, the music is from Vlasca. But of course, who cares :)

  • I dance with Miorita! We love you guys!

  • Thank you VERY MUCH for the info. I do appreciate it a great deal. ;)

  • WOW, you guys are GREAT!!! As a fourth-generation Romanian myself, I have never seen Romanian folk dancing before, much less given the opportunity to try it. I have heard Romanian folk music before and I do have a huge collection of East European folk music CD's (most of them from Romania, not kidding here). Since I came across you on youtube, I'll be playing it over and over again. You all put on an incredible show! Keep up the good work! MULTI ANI INAINTE!!!

  • If you want to see more dances, you can also search "shatulina", and "dorbasarabean". "Shatulina" has dances from a party of the Romanians from Cipru, and "dorbasarabean" is a Romanian Folk Ensemble from Ukraine. And you can also search "calusarii kosurge11". Enjoy.
