I am visiting the Big Island of Hawai'i right now... and I read that the Coqui seem to be a nuisance to some locals as well as visitors... but as soon as I heard them I thought they sound amazing. I did have to move the window to cracked instead of full open as they are crazy loud, but I totally see why other countries adore them. what a way to fall asleep... to say they keep you up, just nuts! I want to go out and actually SEE one! chirp away little Coquis!
This little creatures are native from Puerto Rico " the enchanted island" and they were introduce in hawaii. They are considered as an invasive especie. I live in Puerto Rico and i love them.
Hmm, this is actually not bad at all, reminds me of Japanese semi (cicadas), and I might actually like it. --- Am moving to Hilo/Puna area and have been a little worried (never heard them before), but this video is encouraging! I feel like I might actually like it and enjoy it as music! Healing nature sounds!
I can understand how you wouldn't like the frogs if you had grown up on the island without them, but I loved them when I visited Hawaii. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip.
thats how they sound on our island the "echanted island" and i love this sound stop whining if you dont like it get your governament to round them up and ship them back to us we would gladly take them
@bigjavo36 : It is Hilo where it is bad. Trust me it's nothing like it is in PR. PR has all sorts of whacky predators that keep the population of our mascot mild.
The melodic sound you here on this video is actually mild and probably was filmed during the winter months when the coqui are not quite as active. During the summer months when the coqui are more active imagine what you hear on this video with 100 x's more coqui and 10 x's the volume
I've heard them in puerto rico youtube videos and they sound nice. But in Hawaii, you cannot appreciate them. There's just way too many at once. It's a noise nuisance. Just as annoying as an incescently barking dog. But I lived in hilo for two years and your mind blocks them out after a week.
I dont know why they dont like them,. In Puerto Rico they are loved so much. The coqui is a national symbol. Ahh I love to sleep w/ this sound. Im glad u kinda like them LOL. Thanks for posting
I live upstate New York where we have Spring Peepers in which are very simmiler sounding so this is actually relaxing to me.

I like them and I don't. Sometimes I enjoy their songs, but other times I wish the nights were just quiet like they used to be.

How could anybody hate this sound? It's my favorite sound in the entire world, I think. I use to go to sleep to it.
