  • I think it's one of the coolest languages ever created. I'm proud that my ancestors are Welsh. I wonder, I'm American and am really wanting to learn Welsh so could you perhaps recommend a tool? Thank you :)

  • go on Butt

  • Good to have the text to read along, and good to be "forced" to get along with a natural mumbling. I like your video!

  • Can't hear a damned thing!

  • "As regards the ancient brown race or races of North Europe, there can be no doubt of their existence in the south-east of Norway and in the east of Friesland"

-ORIGIN OF THE ANGLO-SAXON RACE by Thomas William Shore (1906)

  • How often do you use this language in real life? As in, could you walk into a store in Wales and ask how much something is (in Welsh), would you be replied to in the language or looked at as if you were an idiot?

  • My whole degree is taught through the medium of Welsh, and it is the language of choice where I work. Nobody in Wales would look at someone as if they were an idiot for speaking Welsh.... unless they were ignorant suppose!

The further west you go into Wales, the more Welsh you'll find

  • Normally if your up in the gog you will be answered back in welsh but a lot of people in the south are loosing the langage which is bad but I go to a welsh school so thats good!

Rydw i yn gally siarrad cymraeg yn perffaith!

  • If you were French and walked into a shop and asked for something in French, How the fuck do you think they'd react? Twll tin bob sais!

'Ogyn o pesda (Bethesda) am byth!

  • stecymru is right, the further west you go, the more widely welsh is spoken. Welsh is the chosen language in the area where I live in wales, Lleyn here, the majority speak fluent welsh and english. May i also add, if you live in a welsh speaking area of wales, you'll get treated better if you speak welsh. the locals will tend to treat you as someone they know, as many welsh first language speakers find it much easier to speak welsh with you. as the same in any county

  • LOL-

How funny (and I wish I knew what all the comments were)-It seems all the comments on a video of survival Welsh (a pun in itself) are in Welsh? Nice to know those in the know are watching what others put out in representation of the whole :-)

  • For crying out loud, sit still and speak up, young man! I think you had the right idea, but a very poor presentation.

  • The day of the week in Bearn (occitan-gascon romance language) and in Wales (celtic britonic language):

    Gascon Cymraeg

    Diluns Dydd Llun

    Dimars Dydd Mawrth

    Dimercs Dydd Mercher

    Dijaus Dydd Iau

    Divès Dydd Gwener

    Dissabte Dydd Sadwr

    Dimenge Dydd Sul

    Thanks a lot for lessons.

  • What really confuses me is that Welsh a gaelic language sounds like a Germanic language especially Dutch.

  • A Celtic language, not a Gaelic language. And languages sound different to different people, I'm sure it doesn't sound like German or Dutch to a German or Dutch person!

  • I'm curious now what is the difference between a Celtic language and a Gaelic language, I thought they were the same thing.

Also with my last comment I meant the sounds used in Welsh is similar to sounds in Dutch.

BTW Ik taals Nederlands :P (I speak Dutch)

  • There's P and Q celtic. Irish is q celtic as is Manx and Scots Gaelic, Welsh, Breton and Cornish are q celtic. The P's can understand P's and the Q's the Q's, but otherwise they have more difficulty. Scots Gaelic and Irish are probably about as close as German and Dutch

I have heard that this is where the expression mind your p's and q's comes from but I'm not sure. There are some words, avon in Welsh and abhainn (river)in Irish, or map and mac (son)

  • P and Q languages differ because of the different evolution of the Old Celtic words starting with the k- sound. Q languages kept it just like that qhereas p languages changed it to p-. Example: irish crann, welsh pren (tree).

  • 'Celtic' is the language catagory, a bit like the Germanic or the Romance catagories of languages. Gaelic is a language within the Celtic catagory.

  • I agree, sounds quite dutch. ik taal nederlands ook.

  • beste ezelje,

you just said "I language Dutch also"

It should be "Ik spreek ook Nederlands."

  • CYMRU AM BATH!!!

    Proud to be welsh!!

  • Isn't it Cymru am byth?

  • cymraeg is the strangest language in all of europe. doesn't look like gaelic, germanic, latin or the western slavic at all.

dude, your lessons were a bit too quick and quiet. dw in hoffi coffi's the only thing i understood. please use shorter/more compact welsh phrases even if it means more things to say in english. danke schoene.

  • Really helpful thank you. But can I suggest in the little thing at the top you show both the spelling and Phonetic's. But yeah really cool thank and yeah I enjoyed it.

(Lol can't even spell in English let alone Welsh.)

  • Brilliant videa =]

  • Hey!

I totally love what you're doing, its a great idea to get everyone to learn the celtic languages!!

Anyway, I'm from the US but I'll be going to bangor next year for university and I thought I'd try to learn a bit of welsh before I go. I thought your videos were helpful but you spoke the welsh a bit too fast for me to get the pronounciation. If you make another vid, could you speak a bit slower? Or rather, Wnewch chi siarad yn araf? hehe

    Thanks!! :)

  • dwin meddwl tin rhywol iawn ;) x

    Stephen

  • wow, seems pretty tough to learn. kind of like german,, if your not used to making certain sounds, you have to practice alot. hmm. pretty cool though. nice to hear all these languages. thanks.- was a good learning experience

  • Da iawn fawr! dw i eisau siarad Cymraeg, dw i siarad tipyn bach. dw i newydd dechrau. dw i'n byw yn Oregon, USA. (my family originaly comes from Cwmbran). hwyl fawr, diolch!

  • Da iawn chi. Mae dy Gymraeg di yn dda iawn. A ydych chi'n adnabod unrhyw un arall sy'n siarad Cymraeg yn Oregon?

  • Are you an insomniac? you always seem tired!

  • I'm fine!

  • Good, good.

  • Thanks for putting these up! I live in the US and am trying to learn Cymraeg, so it's hard to find people who can pronounce what you're learning.

  • No problem. There will be more very soon. It's just finding the time during university

  • Video is excellent, BUT! - lol can you say it more slowly next time Thanks!

  • I sure will, anything else that I could improve on?

  • Not really its Excellent! Just say it more slowly at first. I learn Welsh 5 hours a day, im born bread Wales. It would be nice to see some swear word sayings in Welsh!

  • I know a few but I doubt people would appreciate them lol. There are sites on the net that have them. Check them out!

  • I shall try it a little slower next time. Would conversation help.... as in with two people?

  • wnewch chi siarad yn araf! haha. I'm applying for uni in Wales, trying to learn the basics. This was helpful :).

  • Hmm....do you support the BNP?

  • I wouldn't say I supported them but I believe in some things they do. CYMRU I'R CYMRY

  • what the...strange question =)

    loved the video btw! =)

  • What do you mean 'what the.... strange question'? lol

  • Are you from the north?

  • Yes, just outside Wrecsam....

    could you tell?

  • Oh dear, I think I may be addicted to Celtic languages!

  • I fell into that trap. It's ace though. I'm learning Breton and Irish hrough Welsh - Celtic nations forever

  • This was pretty helpful because you show the written text and say it at the same time, which people often don't do. It's a useful thing to do: keep it up. One thing that you could do better is that people often learn language sounds better when they can see a speaker's mouth, and yours is often off the bottom of the screen.

  • i'll change my newest videos with that in mind.

diolch am eich neges chi - thank you for your message

  • nice video :) i see your from north cymru? my relatives live in caernarfon

  • Yes, just outside Wrecsam. I visit Caernarfon alot. I love the castle. Shame it was built by an English king. Only joking....

Anyway, thanks for the message - Diolch am eich neges chi
