Are you serious? You try to take things out of context. I bet if you watched the video at no point did Elder Holland say that God would not be enough. He is making a statement though definitively that he loves his wife.
You remind me of a person who takes everything you say the most offensive way possible. "Do that tie look good on me?" "I think your other tie looks better." You hate my new tie don't you, and you think I'm horrible.
Blackeyebeatings it's in our articles of faith #8 we believe the bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. We also believe the book of Mormon to be the word of God.
so u will be happy in heaven with out a wife true me u and evey one well be happy to live with God but it well be butter to have you're wife there to right.
@BlackEyeBeatings Temples were built with the best construction and materials available. Read Exodus 25 and 1 Kings 5 and you will see that building a house unto the Lord using the finest materials is historically consistent with what God has commanded and what his people have done. I understand the concern you see here. However, mormons see these buildings as the house of God and out of respect for him we build them to be as nice as possible. Wouldn't you if you were endeavoring to do the this?
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” 21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
@BlackEyeBeatings Jesus was the one who told Moses that they should gather gold to make the tabernacle. I really think we are missing the point though. The point is the temples are constructed and made well out of respect for God. We see these temples as holy places and they are dedicated to God. God may not care so much about how much a temple was or how lavish it is. However, it means something to me to know that the temples are built the very best that we can build them, for him.
The biggest criticism that I've heard about how lavish the temples are is that people argue that the money should go to the poor. However, if this is part of your criticism you really should look further into the church dealings. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spends vast resources globally in providing aide to those in need.
That IS NOT what he was saying. He was expressing the concept of eternal marriage and his love for his wife, with whom he became one flesh. I love my wife and would sure like to have her with me for eternity too. And this in no way implies God is not enough. I'd sure like to see all my friends and relatives and everyone who has or will ever live there too.
@paulmarcelrene And I do not want to stand before Him one day and not be able to say, "I have done all I can to share your Gospel to everyone I ever met".
Keith, glad you took the time our of your "ministry" to visit the House of the Lord. What will you say when God asks why you mocked Him and His Church in front of His Holy Temple?
@DrPorterRockwell God says in heaven there will be no marriages nor will people be given in marriage. I can quite assure everyone the moment we are in the presence of GOD any prior earthly loves will be super eclipsed by the one on one reunion that we will feel when we like drops of water return to the ocean we came from.
@aimeecurry46 False doctrine..... He said there will be no "giving" in marriage in the "Resurrection", not Heaven. Stop adding your own doctrine onto words that say something completely different. Further, Marriages occur HERE, not in heaven as far as we know. LDS ordainances are performed for the living and the dead HERE, including marriage.
@aimeecurry46 I'm well aware of "where" other christians make that justification from, but the fact is is they are adding to the scripture. That scripture is referring to the "Resurrection", not "Heaven". Even the NIV which most other christians these days are using states it's referring to the Resurrection.
@DrPorterRockwell Jesus built his church before he ascended, The mormon church wasn't started until the early 1800's. So how could it be??? Not only that but Jesus gave the keys and authority here on earth in his absence which would make perfect sense, since the Catholic Church was started by the apostles of Jesus Christ himself right after pentecost. The second oldest christian church is the Anglican church started by King Henry the 8th in the late 1400's.
@aimeecurry46 The LDS Church is the "re-establishment" of the original Church after man had his grubby hands on the Church mixing the doctrines of men and the doctrines of God not having His authority as originally given. The Catholic Church "was" it at the beginning, but it lost a lot along the way, including the authority. There is no evidence that Peter gave the authority to the first Pope. Especially if he had, he would be an Apostle, and the Apostles would still exist.
Did you say Evan is not Evan with out his wife? That is so true man!! I like your tie dye. Evan is nothing with out his wife. (God is not named Evan though.)
Maybe Heaven is not Heaven to you with out a mirror to round brush your helmut hair. Looks like it was humid that day.
When you learn of eternal marriage and a heavenly mother, make sure you brush that baby back before apologizing.
That was lame. My goodness. Could you picture heaven without your wife? What is heaven to you then? Want to be rid of her? Of course not! This is just silly.
Lol, this is kind of silly. Feels more like an attack than an actual question. I think that if god answered that question he would say that he wouldn't have been half the man he is if it wasn't for his family. As mormons we don't really believe that acknowledging god to have similar attributes as our own takes away from his divinity, but rather adds to his credibility.
Do you love your wife? What about your children? Lets say your going to live eternity with God you will only know him. You will forget your wife your kids and oh and everyone else you loved too. Does this sound like a loving God? It also sounds like a stab to the heart. I am glad to know that families our forever and not of a temperal nature. How about you?
What a silly question. Of course you cannot have a fullness of joy if your earthly family, those whom you loved most in life, is taken from you. Jesus explicitly said that husband and wife separating is utterly against the wishes of God but that the institution of divorce had been permitted because the people were sinful. Quick question, therefore: if Jesus said that God disapproves of divorce, how could you be in heaven without your wife?
Poor guy. He hasn't read the Bible and yet calls himself a minister. If he had he'd realize Elder Holland's statement could (and maybe even should) be taken as a paraphrase from Paul's statement to the Corinthians when he said "...neither is the man w/out the woman, neither the woman w/out the man n the Lord." It's really a trick question. It's not that God isn't enough. It's that man ALONE is not enough. N some way he needs woman & she him to truly have the ultimate relationship w/ the Lord.
Right, 1 man 1 woman, both need each other but it is not manditory. It is not a requirement. Large families are not perferred by God either. It's the individual that God cares about, not the geneology.
Joseph Smith really screwed this one up by taking on a herd of women.
You know, that was more funny than offensive - "cute stunt" was my first reaction. The man has nothing to back up that statement and is spewing his own conveluded conclusions back at the public. To each their own...
Isn't that clever the way this dill hole inserts his own words and makes it sound as though the Mormon said that God was not enough? oh tricky little born again, maybe he just meant he loves his wife and doesn't want to be separated from her. What a horrible thing to want. Quick question for dill hole, does your wife know you have no use for her after this life?
Can you believe that this man of God, the pastor of Evidence Ministries just told me to Fuck Off in another thread. I can't believe a holy man of God, with a fancy Jesus shirt would say such a thing. I hope he covered his cross when he said that!
So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her! Jesus replied, "Marriage is for people here on earth. But that is not the way it will be in the age to come. For those worthy of being raised from the dead won't be married then. --Luke 20:33-35.
There is no marriage after death according to Jesus. The question for Mormons is do you chose to believe Jesus or Mormon Doctrine:
In the resurrection they stand side by side and hold dominion together. pg51
And why do you think they are asking the question if the doctrine of Everlasting Marriage was not a part of their belief system in the first place. Should it have been part of their belief system?
And how is the doctrine in Mormon Doctrine any different from 1 Peter 3:7 what does "Heirs together" mean to you?Or am I right in presuming you partially read the Bible?
McConkie needs no defense. He had pretty much memorized the entire Bible
McConkie was a donkey and a deceiver. He never told the truth about Biblical verse. He twisted everything and made up fables, "fairy tales" that are blashpemous.
what a strange comment. So you call an apostle a donkey ...because you think so.You call him a liar and a twister of the truth, but give no evidence. I'm sure you'll call his last testimony a lie too; in which case you are truly a blasphemer, as all he did was testify of Jesus Christ. But because you are a hypocrite, you will find something wrong with that too. Elder McConkie needs no defense, and anyhow, he's dead now so can't defend himself. Say what you want, it won't matter anyway.
@devi8tour I happened across your response, a bit late. Mconkie and donkey rhymed and I recall Joseph Smith calling himself a donkey. Your leaders tearfully testify of another Jesus who was a created being and spirit brother of Satan. They earnestly testify of the Father who is a decendant of a long line of gods. How can I prove the lds church is FALSE? ( The lds church considers the cross foolish. )
No, he's not saying that God is not enough. But, God wants us to be happy. People who love their spouses are happy people.
Most non-LDS Christians seem to think they will be happier without their spouses, and they are the ones that won't have to worry about that. But, I think that, ultimately, they will see that they would have been happier with their spouses, but by then, it will be too late.
I don't know why because I'm not sure what his entire quote was, just what this man said.
If his wife doesn't qualify, he wouldn't be an apostle, I'm thinking.
But, generally, if one spouse is not worthy for the Celestial Kingdom, IMHO, he will find another wife in the next life, but before the final judgment/resurrection, who he can be happy with and who can be happy with him. Don't know for sure, but that's my opinion.
Then you don't know anything about our "cult". There are many married couples where one is in the church and the other is not. No one is ever encouraged to leave their spouse just because one is not a believer.
Well, the elders don't, anyway. FYI, about 99% of all males over 18 in our church are elders.
God is a different story. I don't speak for Him. What HE tells them is between them and God.
so the spouse wont go to heaven then if they arer different religion hardly an ideal for you guys cause the marriage is supposed to last forever give me a break.
Yes, well, that's the chance some people take when they don't marry in the temple or marry outside the church. Church leaders constantly remind us to marry in the temple. They can't help it if people don't take their advice.
First, can we make sure we're on the same page, so to speak? Are you Christian? I mean, born again, not just "yeah, that's what I consider myself, as opposed to Jewish or Moslem or something".
Where in the name of you so-called God who has evidently created you as a very ignorant being did you get the idea that most people who aren't Mormons would be happier without their Husbands or Wives, you are a fool.
Since non-LDS Christian weddings end with that five word "divorce" at the end "Till Death Do You Part", then I must conclude that you will be happy in heaven without your spouse.
We believe that families are ordained of God and that He doesn't want to split up families in this or the next life. However, if my wife is going to keep me away from God, then I will dump her.
Ya, they are. You know, when I was LDS I never would have caught that. I'm sure the LDS here aren't catching that either, stuff like that just goes over their heads.
..I think that he was speaking solely upon his OWN interpretation of HEAVEN. We already know that mormonism teaches that they can reach Godhood, sealed to there wife or wives for all eternity.
....To answer your question. God wouldn't be enough because Mormons are expected to be Gods anyways.
But I have to admit that I agree with him. His god is not enough..... but the true God of the bible is. I pray that he finds the true God of the bible one day.
Are you serious? You try to take things out of context. I bet if you watched the video at no point did Elder Holland say that God would not be enough. He is making a statement though definitively that he loves his wife.

We believe that families are ordained of God and that He doesn't want to split up families in this or the next life. However, if my wife is going to keep me away from God, then I will dump her.

I think that is certainly the right answer according to god and the bible!

Yes... apparently he is.
But I have to admit that I agree with him. His god is not enough..... but the true God of the bible is. I pray that he finds the true God of the bible one day.
