Are you serious? You try to take things out of context. I bet if you watched the video at no point did Elder Holland say that God would not be enough. He is making a statement though definitively that he loves his wife.

You remind me of a person who takes everything you say the most offensive way possible. "Do that tie look good on me?" "I think your other tie looks better." You hate my new tie don't you, and you think I'm horrible.

Blackeyebeatings it's in our articles of faith #8 we believe the bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. We also believe the book of Mormon to be the word of God.

Read Exodus 25 and 1 Kings 5 and you will see that building a house unto the Lord using the finest materials is historically consistent with what God has commanded and what his people have done. I understand the concern you see here. However, mormons see these buildings as the house of God and out of respect for him we build them to be as nice as possible. Wouldn't you if you were endeavoring to do the this?

@BlackEyeBeatings Jesus was the one who told Moses that they should gather gold to make the tabernacle. I really think we are missing the point though. The point is the temples are constructed and made well out of respect for God. We see these temples as holy places and they are dedicated to God. God may not care so much about how much a temple was or how lavish it is. However, it means something to me to know that the temples are built the very best that we can build them, for him.

The biggest criticism that I've heard about how lavish the temples are is that people argue that the money should go to the poor. However, if this is part of your criticism you really should look further into the church dealings. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spends vast resources globally in providing aide to those in need.

That IS NOT what he was saying. He was expressing the concept of eternal marriage and his love for his wife, with whom he became one flesh. I love my wife and would sure like to have her with me for eternity too. And this in no way implies God is not enough. I'd sure like to see all my friends and relatives and everyone who has or will ever live there too.

Further, Marriages occur HERE, not in heaven as far as we know. LDS ordainances are performed for the living and the dead HERE, including marriage.

That scripture is referring to the "Resurrection", not "Heaven". Even the NIV which most other christians these days are using states it's referring to the Resurrection.

@DrPorterRockwell Jesus built his church before he ascended, The mormon church wasn't started until the early 1800's. So how could it be??? Not only that but Jesus gave the keys and authority here on earth in his absence which would make perfect sense, since the Catholic Church was started by the apostles of Jesus Christ himself right after pentecost. The second oldest christian church is the Anglican church started by King Henry the 8th in the late 1400's.

@aimeecurry46 The LDS Church is the "re-establishment" of the original Church after man had his grubby hands on the Church mixing the doctrines of men and the doctrines of God not having His authority as originally given. The Catholic Church "was" it at the beginning, but it lost a lot along the way, including the authority. There is no evidence that Peter gave the authority to the first Pope. Especially if he had, he would be an Apostle, and the Apostles would still exist.

I think that if god answered that question he would say that he wouldn't have been half the man he is if it wasn't for his family. As mormons we don't really believe that acknowledging god to have similar attributes as our own takes away from his divinity, but rather adds to his credibility.

What a silly question. Of course you cannot have a fullness of joy if your earthly family, those whom you loved most in life, is taken from you. Jesus explicitly said that husband and wife separating is utterly against the wishes of God but that the institution of divorce had been permitted because the people were sinful. Quick question, therefore: if Jesus said that God disapproves of divorce, how could you be in heaven without your wife?

Poor guy. He hasn't read the Bible and yet calls himself a minister. If he had he'd realize Elder Holland's statement could (and maybe even should) be taken as a paraphrase from Paul's statement to the Corinthians when he said "...neither is the man w/out the woman, neither the woman w/out the man n the Lord." It's really a trick question. It's not that God isn't enough. It's that man ALONE is not enough. N some way he needs woman & she him to truly have the ultimate relationship w/ the Lord.

Right, 1 man 1 woman, both need each other but it is not manditory. It is not a requirement. Large families are not perferred by God either. It's the individual that God cares about, not the geneology.

No, he's not saying that God is not enough. But, God wants us to be happy. People who love their spouses are happy people.

Most non-LDS Christians seem to think they will be happier without their spouses, and they are the ones that won't have to worry about that. But, I think that, ultimately, they will see that they would have been happier with their spouses, but by then, it will be too late.

If his wife doesn't qualify, he wouldn't be an apostle, I'm thinking.

But, generally, if one spouse is not worthy for the Celestial Kingdom, IMHO, he will find another wife in the next life, but before the final judgment/resurrection, who he can be happy with and who can be happy with him. Don't know for sure, but that's my opinion.
