I was apprehensive about getting braces at 24 (I'm 26 now) but I didn't have a lisp, or that sputtering issue at all!! It was better once I realized that I could get the clear brackets. It was awesome and since my teeth are actually straight and I was correcting a minor issue, no one knows I have braces until I tell them-even up close! :)

Congrats on getting braces!! I'm 34 and just got my Damon braces put on a few days ago. Like you, it was a roller coaster of emotions the day I went. I too really wish I had someone go with me :) congrats again on going for it! I look forward to watching your progress! (I plan to track my progress here on YouTube as well!)

@MSBEAUTY247 I am getting 6 month braces...which is funny because my dentist told me it may take 8-9 months. I will be getting rid of my gap, and I am way too excited.

@coke0fan Is this a serious question? Having a gap hasn't hurt my life in any way, and I get MANY compliments on it. It is a part of me. And believe it or not, it is a beautiful thing to many people.

I had orthodontic treatment at 30, I was similarly aprehensive being male and working in a male dominated workplace. Although it was a long time ago I think I can give some usefull advice. Firstly you probably are more concerned about your appearance etc than anyone else, most people will not be concerned that you have braces on. Surviving the first week is the hard part! If you avoid sore lips, cheeks and tongue you will be doing well. I had no trouble with speech until I had to wear a retainer
