  • the music from this dance actually sounds a little chinese to some extent

  • Mexican Machete dances do the same move of lifting the leg and stricking the sticks(or machetes) together. Chamorro Bailan Palitos dances share many similar choreography too. Another Chamorro stick dances uses shorter sticks similar to the PALOTEOS dances of Spain. Amazing how dance can connect cultures that have long been separated by time.

  • Chamorros from GUAM and the NORTHERN MARIANAS have a similar dance called, BAILAN PALITOS. A dance of Spanish (PALOTEOS) origin, yet share similarities with certain Mexican folkdances as well as the Filipino SAKUTING. This SAKUTING performance bears striking similarities to the CHAMORRO BAILAN PALITOS.  Another commonality shared between us CHAMORROS and FILIPINOS, the FORGOTTEN HISPANICS of ASIA and the PACIFIC.
