im 24, i grew up playing old school NES, Genesis, and SNES. I loved Genesis... Streets of Rage was so damn good... I remember going to Nobody Beats The Wiz back in 1995, and they had 3DO, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, PS1, Jaguar on display to play and it was like a mini video game expo inside that place every day.
Yup, Sonic is cool. A lot of third party games were really bad on Genesis though. For example, Batman Returns had more colors and was more smooth on SNES, where the Sega Genesis version was bland and the graphics were lacking. Although, the Genesis exclusives were way better I thought. Although, I remember getting UMK3 on SNES.
Sonic looks awfully young to be pushing 20. Plus, you'd think those red 15cs would've worn out after all that loop running and smashing shoddily built robots.

sega genesis was porlly the worst sega console imo. it was geared toward stupid american audiences and white devils. the first sega console I got was a Saturn, and then a Dreamcast AKA the best sega consoles in the world.
Sonic wasn't the first one to deliver take thats at Mario. You guys should see the TG-16 Bonk's Adventure commercial, which came out a year earlier.
But what seperates Sonic from the pack was that he was the only one to create some success for himself and become a big franchise character on his own.
I can't say the same for Bonk or the other mascots who vanished off the face of the Earth.
the sonic advance games for GBA were 2d and were actually very fun. i was too little to remember the snes/genesis battle. i got my first genisis in 96 with all the mortal kombats. it was my first vg ever

@dunnono00 Well Sonic 4 is coming to XBLA & PSN this summer :D...finally Sega understood that when their Sonic team is unable to deliver even a decent "3D" Sonic is better to return to 2D :D...We cant really say it has "big budget" and you cant have physical copy of it, but who cares if finally they can deliver good Sonic game.
It certainly is intriguing. There's something "pure" about it... but there's also very little to be seen of it thus far. Regardless, it's a good first step. If Nintendo can do it for Mario, no reason Sega can't.
Of course, I'm sure they won't abandon the 3D games. There is a fanbase there too, but it did need a little hiatus.
Now I wonder how both old and new fans of Sonic will greet this game once it's out.
the real problem is that old fans wont get with the times. they hold out for every game to be like sonic 1,2, or 3 and tear down every game after 1994. we fans of the newer games like the old ones just as much as the new ones but we tear them down i responce to the older ones. so, the root of all the division is the people between 24 and 32 who wont just shut up and live with the fact that the 90s are DEAD!

the difference between the blue needlemouse & mario is.
1. sonic the hedgehog just looked "cool". his 1980's style "spikey hair", pointy shoes and attitude made people like him.
^^^ mario on the other hand was a fat italian. not cool looking at all.
sonic took platform games to the next level with the "spin-ball" & "loops". mario just jumped.
BUT Nintendo don't break! they let Mario stay true to his "roots"...sega on the other hand dropped the ball after "sonic adventure 2".

It's not Nintendo's fault they fucked up with the 32X, and Sonic X-treme, and the PS1 on steroids called the Dreamcast. One reason why Nintendo is around is because they have smart people over there. Yujii Naka threatened to quit Sega if they used the Nights engine in Sonic X-treme.

@OverruledDood One reason reason whay they "Have a shitload of money" is because they actualy know what to do at what time, meaning they have experienced people working at Nintendo. Just look at Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis, a group of Sonic 1 hackers made a port better than it. And a whole load of paid people not being able to out do a small group is idiotic. Face it, even if Sega did make a console it would probably flop, Sega isn't what it used to be, after all.

im 24, i grew up playing old school NES, Genesis, and SNES. I loved Genesis... Streets of Rage was so damn good... I remember going to Nobody Beats The Wiz back in 1995, and they had 3DO, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, PS1, Jaguar on display to play and it was like a mini video game expo inside that place every day.

Yup, Sonic is cool. A lot of third party games were really bad on Genesis though. For example, Batman Returns had more colors and was more smooth on SNES, where the Sega Genesis version was bland and the graphics were lacking. Although, the Genesis exclusives were way better I thought. Although, I remember getting UMK3 on SNES.

Sonic wasn't the first one to deliver take thats at Mario. You guys should see the TG-16 Bonk's Adventure commercial, which came out a year earlier.
But what seperates Sonic from the pack was that he was the only one to create some success for himself and become a big franchise character on his own.
I can't say the same for Bonk or the other mascots who vanished off the face of the Earth.

I would love to see Sega make a big budget, 2-D Sonic game on the main consoles. I would LOVE to see that, but mainly because I want to see the reactions of both old and new fans. It will give a lot of insight on the divided fandom...

@dunnono00 Well Sonic 4 is coming to XBLA & PSN this summer :D...finally Sega understood that when their Sonic team is unable to deliver even a decent "3D" Sonic is better to return to 2D :D...We cant really say it has "big budget" and you cant have physical copy of it, but who cares if finally they can deliver good Sonic game.

It certainly is intriguing. There's something "pure" about it... but there's also very little to be seen of it thus far. Regardless, it's a good first step. If Nintendo can do it for Mario, no reason Sega can't.
Of course, I'm sure they won't abandon the 3D games. There is a fanbase there too, but it did need a little hiatus.
Now I wonder how both old and new fans of Sonic will greet this game once it's out.

the real problem is that old fans wont get with the times. they hold out for every game to be like sonic 1,2, or 3 and tear down every game after 1994. we fans of the newer games like the old ones just as much as the new ones but we tear them down i responce to the older ones. so, the root of all the division is the people between 24 and 32 who wont just shut up and live with the fact that the 90s are DEAD!

@hekkuta, you do know that you just proved my point (even though your 18). i mean, i have nothing wrong with the old sonic games and play them as well. but riddle me this, do you even try to have fun with the new games? i look as sonic 06 and would agree that it's a pile of sh*t, but i try to have fun and get my $20 worth instead of whining about it, and if i'm not having fun with 06 then i'll pop in SA2 or Majora's Mask.

@SonicRyan1992 - i also must add that you didn't have to be a hardcore gamer to enjoy the games from the past. you could just play for the love of it. games now are too complicated, enough that the only ones that would really enjoy it, are the ones that spend most of their time playing it and doing nothing else. unfortunately, most of us have grown up now. and don't have that kind of time. they should really focus on making games like before. i dont care about graphics. but just.. simpler.
