  • Love it!!

  • cette chanson est tres belle et calmer... dieu je l'aime...

  • french bass

  • Monsieur Gainsbourg - smoother than hot butter on toast. Love this man's work!

  • The man was suave--probably drank Pabst Blue Ribbon.

  • Amazing

  • Cette chanson est si courte.... Trop courte. C'est frustrant. Mais à part ça, quel chef d'oeuvre! Cette chanson fait partie de ma vie, c'est sûrement celle que j'ai le plus écouté. Une des plus belles de Gainsbourg, la meilleure peut-être.

  • La chanson qui a donné son nom à la fille de Johnny Depp et Vanessa Paradis. :) Je dis ça je dis rien ;)

  • Hé Vasilgrozny, you push me to do a Gainsbourg's night (I'm work in night-club), listen L'homme à tête de chou, that's another face of Serge ;) Cordially

    chef d'oeuvre...

  • putain tu me manque Serge...

  • BIG BOSS SERGE

  • Pourquoi tu es mord ? <3<3

  • when serge needed a pack of fags, which was probably an hourly occurrence, he just flapped them supersized lugs and flew down the road to the ethnic minority store

  • This gent made a career out of lechery, but his music's got something....no denying it. I mean besides the lechery alone. Which was pretty glorious. In a 'only this geez can get away with it' sort of way.

  • la simplicité à la fois si subtile de gainsbourg ... chaque écoute est pour moi un véritable régale , il n'est pas devenue une anthologie par hasard .

  • Classieux le Serge ! Paix à toi où que tu sois, ami.

  • Et qu'est ce que vous pensez de Répliques&Phonogrammes ?

  • I would say 'pleasant little fool' :)

  • j'ai quadn meme peur de ce que les Bep pourraient en faire..

  • C'est juste la classe ,l'elegance des paroles,la simplicitée musicale(pas au point de vue composition bien sur)et pour finir la voix de gainsbourg, personne ne pourra l'imiter et sa c'est temp mieux..

  • c'est le genre de son que j'aurais aimé être capable de composer , mais gainsbourg est unique , c'est ptét mieux comme ça finalement

  • Recherche Melody Nelson (Train du 13 juin) Me contacter! ^^

  • CHANSON PREFERE de will des black eyes

  • @TheJojo3103

Je viens juste de voir ça à l'instant sur taratata. Ma chanson préférée de tous les temps aussi. J'en a les larmes aux yeux à chaque fois...

On t'oublieras pas Serge. Mes enfants entendront parler de toi!

  • @TheJojo3103

(ps: bon, les BEP, c'est pas non plus le groupe du millenaire...)

  • can anyone translate this in english plz

  • @ssssss677 We could translate by : That’s the story of Melody Nelson Whose, except myself, nobody never took in his arms It astounds you, but so it is She had love, poor Melody Nelson Yes, she had tonnes of it But her days were counted down, fourteen autumns and fifteen summers A little pet, that was Melody Nelson An adorable boyish girl and so delicious child whom I knew only one moment Oh! my Melody, my Melody Nelson Pleasant littlle bitch You were indispensable condition of my reason
  • @francoismiet Pas mal la traduction :))

  • @francoismiet !yep that's a good translation but "bitch" for "aimable petite conne" isn't the good word maybe something like "lovely little bastard", no way to negative words, he's in love. If - like want sssssss677 _ you want a fidele translation, ! I could do that tomorrow evening

  • @patisserie63 "aimable petite conne" = "lovely little bastard"? No way! I'm not a native speaker, but "conne" is generally understood to be vulgar. Meanwhile, the song itself -- his phrasing when he says "aimable petite conne" and the swelling of the strings immediately after is clearly meant to make this word the peak of the whole song. One would expect the lyrics to mirror that. He meant just what he said, and we shouldn't try to soften it.

  • @vasilgrozny Conne is vulgare but not "petit conne" "Not at all! I'm not a native speaker, but" bitch "is generally considered vulgar" Exactly, you are not a native speaker, or a so you dont know the subtleties of that language, I sometimes call my daughter, "petite conne" or "merdeuse", it can be a little kind word. I dont know why you speak without finesses of that. Obviously, if I want to say that I know English, I will bring word for word but it's not my culture. So I shut up;)

  • @vasilgrozny PS : I'm french, I know what I say and someone wanted translation, I did.... That's our culture, there's no insult or vulgarity in this that's affectionate. Strange for an English... I understand but that's our culture mate ;)

  • @vasilgrozny That's why we need to soften. No hard feelings. This song is a diamond, mate :)

  • @vasilgrozny

"Aimable petite conne" have to be heard as a definitve sign of tenderness about a naive & spontaneous person. No French do not hear the opposite.

  • @Neroniteegu @francoismiet @patisserie63 thanks for a useful lesson. I was misled by Gainsbourg's penchant for the no-holds-barred style (e.g. telling Whitney Houston that he wants to fuck her - on live TV!). So I have to ask - is it possible that Serge was aiming for a double entendre here? The climax in the music when this phrase is uttered suggests something more than mere tenderness. Would such an interpretation make sense to a native speaker?

  • @vasilgrozny Sense for a native speaker? Not really, the episode of Whitney Houston was a provocationf more than Serge (for the anecdot, the next day he did fill the roomof the Whitney with flowers). He was a man very well, an artist tortured by some things. So yep, that Was a double-hear. Melody Nelson is also a double meaning: it was a song based on the beauty of a teen but at the time it was criticized and he was carried away by his answer: it was art for him, not thinking of a pedophile ...

  • @vasilgrozny

    Sorry for the delay.

Any interpretation is possible, it's a song. But the word "con" in french can be interpreted in many ways: to describe a blunder, a disappointment or someone particularly unpleasant and stupid (there is no other possible interpretation for the insult "gros con" which is very aggressive). In the song, it seems clear that the sentence focuses on the personality of "Melody" and her untimely death. We can suppose that these ones are linked.

  • @vasilgrozny

Oops! I've forgotten: don't say "aimable petite conne" to an extravangant french girl! She will interpret it as a rude sign of condescension. But not definitively as an insult ;-)

  • @vasilgrozny Another exemple just for you mate : tape "renaud p'tite conne". He's far to be the genius but that's for the exemple if someone in your friends can translate ;)

  • @vasilgrozny @Neroniteegu also, "con" means a women's genitals. So it might also be interpreted as such ;)

  • @TheStinkyFingers "con" can mean a woman's genitals, but "conne" can't.

  • @francoismiet "Litte pet" ok, François, je tente de faire comprendre à Vasilgrozny que "petite conne" peut-être affectueux, mais c'es très dur sans utilitse le mot "pet". Il y a des termes intraduisibles dans toutes les langues, pet c'est un euphémisme même si ta traduction est très correcte. Amicalement.

  • @ssssss677 france has his poets.thank you

  • @ssssss677 Placebo covered it in english as well, on their album "covers". :)

  • Je ne m'en lasserai JAMAIS :)
