wow listening to this, I can see how the nordic and celtic languages are from the "same" area (relative to the rest of Europe). it's like, I keep hearing the same intonations and inflections as swedish for example
@wildinmyskin All other languages sound like gibberish if you don't understand it. It's Welsh, I can speak it and I understand it, if you can't speak it will be sound gibberish.
Is it custom in Welsh interviews for the interviewer to do all the speaking and barely let the star get a word in? Because all of the Welse interviews of Iwan I have watched are like this...
I don't need to speak Welsh to know that this chick needs to it from fourth gear back down to third--stop talking and let Iwan speak. It is HIS interview after all you know -__-
Omg, I wish I could speak Welsh xD It is so weird because it's like they're speaking English but it's just so different. I've never heard a language pronounced in that way. I'm officially learning :P
Okay... I'll stop saying that English is unpronounceable, or almost (Although very nice). Welsh beats completely. But it's pretty, it makes you want to learn ... but WOW. ._.'
this is actually the first time i've ever heard the Welsh language. it is so weird, yet really interesting. it's also really amazing watching the kids speak it. i don't know, but i think i'm jealous that they can speak it and i can't. haha!
I know nothing about Welsh I will admit. But when I hear it, a lot of the expression and stress on words is very similar to English. A lot of harsh and awkward transitions between each word, rather than being really fluent like French or Spanish etc. Some of the words used are actually English too, like when Iwan said 'Erm, yeah...' at 0:25 and 'glamourous' at 0:31. Are there links between the two languages?
Forgive me lol, like I said I know sweet f/a about Welsh :-P
@EditorTasha Yes, there are lots of words that do not exist in Wales, or at least, didn't used to. Therefore lots of old welsh speakers occasionally use english words . This is a lot more prevalent in the south as up north, they speak more "pure welsh"
@ellakicksshins Most Americans don't speak proper english to begin with, so another language would be practically impossible. (This is coming from a born and raised American btw). I grew up hearing three different languages spoken in my household and my parents who weren't even born knowing any english speak better than half the people I encounter daily. =/
I've never heard of Welsh before, but it kinda has a Elf or Lord of the Rings sound to it. Honestly though my first though was, when I heard it, was that it sounded like gibberish. Sorry to any Welsh speakers out there!!! I'm sorry, please call me ignorant and all that awful stuff, I've honestly never heard of this language before.
@akalashay ...That has nothing to do with America being dumb. English is a very popular language, thus why other countries teach their children English. You can learn another language in America. You're the dumb one and it's your fault if you don't try to learn another language.
@akalashay Well, it's up to the individual to learn a language. I guess, Americans don't see it as a necessity to learn more than one language since many don't even leave the country. But if you want to learn 5 languages there's nothing stopping you, don't use America's "ignorance" as an excuse to not do it.
you're damn lucky you live here. you have electricity every time you turn on the light, you have clean drinking water and a government that doesn't lock you up for speaking your mind. now does that sound dumb? we're the must progressive county in the world. all you've proved is that american's are damn ungrateful.
@Koyuki14 exactly i think its cause america is still racist and segregated ... i noticed in Britain they judge people less upon looks then here... but i am thankful to be in this country
@seagoonproductions wow thats amazing they should do that here in the states instead making people buy classes/books/dvds to learn spanish or any other language ... i really want to live in UK
@akalashay i wouldn't... England kind of sucks, i'm English and its unfriendly, dirty and always raining! i would love to live in America tho! - PS - even though i study spanish i still suck at it and i probs will fail my exam :S
@eiram31 I don't even get what he's saying. When folks set out to learn another language - I doubt Welsh is high on the list of potential languages. You need to weigh the probability of actually USING the skill. Humans tend to wanna learn shit just for the sake of saying they know how to do somethng. But 9 times out of 10, their new skill is pretty useless. I'm 33 and never - not once - NEEDED to know how to speak another language. I have however NEEDED to change a flat tire and so I learned.
@pazzmatt not everyone aims to be a tyre changer like you. i can speak several languages and i'm quite employable. it's a stupid generalisation, just saying.
@akalashay I'm American and I speak English, Welsh, Spanish, and German fluently. I'm learning Russian and Mandarin right now. I'm only 16 as well. Just saying, it's not all Americans. lol. Just those who don't choose to actually learn and apply themselves. :)
@TheGredShark well see you probably have a special teacher or are online looking for videos to teach you, your searching to find out other languages, but in like UK or other countries its a requirement and free to learn a new language...i know people from the UK can speak welsh, french, german, swedish etc. .. in america they havent even really gave us spanish yet...im not saying all americans are dumb, but most of our society is behind from others
@akalashay Yeah, I searched out for Welsh and German, but they were free online. :) I also found very cheap books at used book stores and/or chain book stores that taught me what I couldn't find online. Spanish was offered in school from 6th grade up, so I learned the basics from middle school and chose to watch Spanish programs in order to help me learn more. Nearly all of my learning has been free. :P
@TheGredShark Are you sure you weren't in Spanish, Welsh and/or German classes when you were pretty young? You must've been. That's the other thing I forgot to mention.
@yurismir1 Yes, I'm positive. :) I took no language classes as a child. I only started Spanish classes in middle school, so when I was 11/12 years old. I don't even know if there are any Welsh classes in my city, haha. There are probably German classes though, I've never checked into it. I began learning Welsh at the end of 6th grade on my own, because I met someone from Wales and found the language fascinating. I started German in 5th grade because I became entranced by the band Rammstein. XD
@TheGredShark Or those who had parents that spoke different languages to them when they were very little and/or moved around to different countries (and brought them along, of course). I'm willing to bet that was your situation.
@yurismir1 Not in the least. My father spoke Spanish, but wasn't around for my life until this year. My mother only speaks English. I've also lived in Kansas my whole life, except for one year in Washington. At that point I already spoke Welsh and Spanish fluently. :P
@missloisjones Cheers kid lol ! Was going to make a joke saying that the cheeky cow called him a cunt! the irish word for word is focal pronounced fuck-ul, put the two together cyntaf focal sounds sweary ...wow lame as!... I should really stop drinking ha!
@smilingtigergirl THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! I'm on my way right now! (Though I would have been willing to sit through all eight incomprehensible minutes, just for Iwan! :P )
Does he say some words in English because he doesn't know the Welsh for it - considering not many people speak Welsh anymore - or because they actually use alot of English words, like nouns?
@ShannieSniper I ddeud y gwir, mae na lawer o bobl yn siarad cymraedg ar draws y byd. Hyd yn oed lawr yn De america. Mae'n dweud rhai geiriau yn saesneg oherwydd bod y iaith saesneg yn cael ei siarad mor agos ac oherwydd bod yna lawer o bobl saesneg wedi symud i mewn i Gymru a'r cymry wedi symud i Lloegr. Felly rydym yn pigo fyny arno. a hefyd mae yna rai eiriau cymraeg sydd yn debyg iawn i Saesneg gan ei fod yn dod o'r iaith Latin. ;)

Does he say some words in English because he doesn't know the Welsh for it - considering not many people speak Welsh anymore - or because they actually use alot of English words, like nouns?
But much love for Iwan Rheon.

@ShannieSniper a lot of welsh words sound english, it's just the spelling is different. Most welsh is used in the North, where I'm from.

@ShannieSniper I ddeud y gwir, mae na lawer o bobl yn siarad cymraedg ar draws y byd. Hyd yn oed lawr yn De america. Mae'n dweud rhai geiriau yn saesneg oherwydd bod y iaith saesneg yn cael ei siarad mor agos ac oherwydd bod yna lawer o bobl saesneg wedi symud i mewn i Gymru a'r cymry wedi symud i Lloegr. Felly rydym yn pigo fyny arno. a hefyd mae yna rai eiriau cymraeg sydd yn debyg iawn i Saesneg gan ei fod yn dod o'r iaith Latin. ;)
