  • I vote The big valley. More intelligent serious scripts. But they were both great.

  • @2:54 Why did the horse replace Nick?

  • Parnell Roberts is just about handsome enough to be a Barkley.

  • @Lisica2008 He was a very handsome man :) And, he was on @ least 1 episode of the Big Valley that I know of :)

  • @ambicraig I actually saw that episode recently. I also thought Roberts was good-looking even after he lost some of his hair, and loved him on Trapper John, MD.

  • @ambicraig peter breck was a con man in bonanza first dave brubecks father was a champion roper who had 3 sons and a ranch in stockton california sound familiar

  • @Lisica2008 Just about! HE COULD HAVE BEEN EUGENE! HAHA! Kidding. He would of had to have had a bigger and more awesome part than that... but he could have been the 4th brother.... and if we had to add a fifth... it would have to be James Drury! Then I'd never be able to watch the show at all...

  • GARBAGE!

  • fail

  • Who would win in a fight between Silas and Hopsing?

  • @Larrytennisfan No question--Silas.

  • Guys I think you did a good job with the photos, but Rawhide was Clint Eastwood not Big Valley. Lets do another one with the right theme song for Big Valley.

  • @jessiediane1 Thanks for the compliment. The reason I didn't use the Big Valley theme song, though, is because where I got the music from they didn't have the Big Valley recording. This medley was already placed together so it was the closest recording I could get.

  • They would all be great together, but could they keep Little Joe away from Audra ?

  • I LOVE THESE TWO SHOWSS!!!!!!!!!!! I can't really pick which one I like better =) They are both sooooooooooooooooooo gooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No offense, but why was the Rawhide theme played during the Big Valley pics??? What happened to The Big Valley theme music?

  • Hey. That's okay. Well, I couldn't get the Big Valley music through the server I use for my music videos :( That's why I had to use Rawhide instead. I know...I like the Rawhide song but I woulda rather of had the Big Valley music set to it.

  • You are correct... Two of the best of all Westerns ever anywhere. The stories were exciting and the colors and scenery of both shows was the very best ever. Sorryfully to say, the studios will never come up anything like this before the end of time. All we see now is cheap one room crap... big faces and moving lips all over our screens. No scenery, just faces.

Folks, you have seen the best, and reruns are a gift. Be grateful when youi see a rerun of Bonanza or Big Valley. Milbourne.

  • If writers would not have been so scared to mess with their recipes, they should have had Ben and Mrs. Barkley at least meet---same era, not that far apart. But...the kiss of death back then was to get engaged to one of the stars. If Hoss, Little Joe, or Adam got engaged, she was doomed!!

  • Don't forget Ben, he proposed to a women in one episode and she was bitten by a wolf with rabies. She chose to go away and died with dignity. No body had warned her about the Cartwright curse.

  • They've finally released the first season of Bonanza on DVD, split into two volumes. Hopefully they will sell well enough to justify the release of more seasons. The Big Valley stalled out after they released only one and half seasons due to poor sales.

  • lauriej100

hi buckskin0077 if you look on blinkx remonte you'll find number seasons there .good luck

  • For me, it's The Big Valley. It was edgier and had more grit, and the best cowboy ever...Nick Barkley!

  • I love both tv shows, though I'm slightly biased towards "The Big Valley", if only because it's one of the few westerns set in California...which is as far West as you can get. (I know, I live here in CA.)

  • i think the big valley was ripping off the jazz pianist dave brubeck whos father was a champion roper that had a ranch in stockton california ,dave brubeck had 3 brothers sound familiar .

  • I watched all the TV westerns back in the day ... of reruns, when I was a kid and they were on in the afternoons, mid-1970s. My favorite, both show and theme song, was The High Chaparral. I liked the Big Valley theme better than Bonanza's, but probably enjoyed Bonanza a little bit for the episodes. Very close call, though.

  • i love them both but i have to say bonanza was better

  • i totally agree with you, that bonanza was the best western.....and got to be honest i've never heard of the big valley....

  • it is a good series, if you like bonanza iim sure you'd like the big valley, there are quite a few episodes on youtube on carrieok419's channel

    btw great user name ;)

  • i love bonanza,, i'll have to have a look for it....thanks....i like your username as well its cool...

  • I love both series. Bonaza gets my vote as best TV show ever made. It had it all: superior cast, excellent guest stars, great scripts, action, outdoors scenes (its specialty), horses, cattle, wonderful theme music, and fabulous color. It was a blockbuster.

  • I love all the old western TV shows from the Fifties through the Seventies, can anyone tell me why I can't find any shows of Bonanza , that David (Candy) Canary , starred in.

  • It's really hard to find bonanza episodes. I don't think they've ever made a "season set" on DVD or VHS. You can sometimes find 2 or 3 Bonanza episodes on DVD...but that's about it. They used to show Bonanza on TV Land and tv classic stations. Maybe if you find it on tv you can record it? Or check online to see if you can buy episodes. I wish they'd bring out all the seasons for us to buy. That would be AWESOME!

  • bonanza didnt have certain realistic aspects to what cowboys and gals do. smoke, drink, have tempers, illegegtimate children, black and mexican cowboys... barkley better. bonaza family fiction but good and beautiful cinematography and sound track.

  • THE Big Valley is definately one of my favorites, if not my all time favorite show ever. Bonanza is a close behind though. In fact just until I first watched The Big Valley a couple weeks back, Bonanza was my favorite.

  • Hop Sing over Silas any day!!!

  • Bonanza was the better show, but they were both good.

I often wondered why the two shows never got together and did a crossover episode. I mean, the Cartwrights and the Barkleys were the two most prominent families in their respective areas, and these areas were not geographically that far apart (Lake Tahoe and Stockton), so it would make sense that they would know each other.

  • You know...I've wondered the same thing, too :) A few years ago I actually wrote an episode of "The Big Valley" meeting "Bonanza". Hey, what can I say...a young girl's fancy with so many gorgeous cowboys will fill her head up with all kinds of silly notions :) My writing will never be put to TV, though, because NO ONE could fill the characters like the originals did. No one can hold a candle to them.

The crossover woulda been lovely, though...that's for sure! :)

  • Man that would have made a HECK of an episode, would it not,i think they would have stayed on even longer than they did especially Big Valley if they had. My Childhood Sweetheart was a young version of Linda Evans,Sharron loved Big valley was her Most favorite Western,Bonanza was #2, the 2 of us were entirely opposite when it came to our favorite Westerns,i lost her(She Died) when the 2 of us were in the 5th grade, when i hear the theme song it remindes me of her it's beautiful just like her. :-(

  • I'm sorry you lost your childhood sweetheart so young. Isn't it odd how certain songs remind you of people you lost? Bittersweet. Thanks for watching my vid. Yeah...it woulda been awesome if they had had Big Valley and Bonanza together in like a 2 hr. movie w/ ALL the original actors. That woulda been so cool.

  • Bonanza and the Big Valley ... oh boy, does that bring back memories! That was when men were MEN! Really good pix, but the music is absolutely GREAT. I especially love the orchestral arrangement of the 'Bonanza' theme. Thanks for sharing, ambicraig!

  • You're so welcome, dear :) I'm glad it brought back fond memories for you and you liked it :)

  • Of this type of show:

    1) Bonanza

    2) The Virginian

    3) The Big Valley

    4) Lancer

    5) The High Chaparrel

  • I have yet to see 'The Virginian' and 'Lancer'...but I'm sure they were good shows, too :) My mom also likes 'The High Chaparrel'. She liked the man who played the character 'Monilito' on the show. The only thing I never understood about that show is how 'John' snatched up the pretty young woman who played 'Victoria'...LOL!

  • all those guys like monolito on chaparel were also in bonanza

  • Ah...so they were on occasion :) That was kinda neat. Oh, and Pernell Roberts (Adam Cartwright) was occasionally on 'The Big Valley', too. I guess all of them were in the occasional Western movie, too. I love watching them all act...especially if they're together in the same film. People really could act back then and draw you into the plot. It's awesome to get to watch it today.

  • peter breck was in a cavalry western the glory guys and played a conman named clay in bonanza and a lawyer named clay in black saddle

  • my husband grew up in the 60's. we have to watch this every evening. he loves the big valley. i grew up in the 70's, so i admit, i don't get the attraction.

  • Haha! Bless your heart. I was born in 1985 and I love these shows...as you can tell :) I guess my mom's love for them rubbed off in the womb with me ;) I loves me some Barkleys and Cartwrights.

  • Bonanza was my fav but i liked Big Valley too.Thank you very much for sharing

  • You're so welcome :) I, too love the Bonanza men ;) But...then again...the Big Valley men have a piece of my heart as well! I just can't choose between them so I'll just love them all FOREVER :) LOL! ;)

  • Yeah no reason we can't have them all :)

  • Amen to that!

  • the big valley is more violent abc was always the most violent network

  • I love both these shows!!! Thank You!!!!

  • You're very welcome :) They were such good entertainment back then and even moreso now because they're advenurous, clean, and cool! The actors really can act and make you get into it. It's amazing how talented they are...and those men...HOLY COW! They don't make 'em like that anymore...nor could anyone else do what they did. It was great and still is today. Thanks for watching ;)

  • PRICELESS!!!! Thank you very much!!!

  • You're so welcome, dear :) I thought a tribute from me was needed because I love both of these shows and my family has loved them for years as well. Thanks for watching :)
