@geoffslaboot Terry Bozzio ? He is BORING. He has a 400 piece kit. LOL. There is a Reason drummers do not play 400 piece drum kits. The reason is: they are not fucking whacos. A solo should be enjoyable for the listener. There is a Reason why the guy gets SO MANY negetive comments on ANY video he has on you tube. Goobers always say that people just "dont get it". Yeah that makes sense. If it sounds bad, its sounds bad. plain and simple. He has NO natural feel or groove.

@143Chippy This one's pretty tame compared to what he was doing 20+ years ago. What I enjoy most about Neil's drumming is that he's the only drummer I've ever found who can make a drum solo musical.

It bothers me that Neil is so heavy on the single strokes. It would be nice if he would explore more mixing singles with doubles, broaden his pallet and add to his facility. Then he would more dangerous then ever.

@tarikghi It bothers me that you are bothered by this. The only way you could be bothered by this is if you are fearful that this God of percussion is blessing your ears with the most beautiful rhythms. Would it be cool if Neil learned double bass, yes it would. Why does he need to learn it? None of Rush's songs require a double bass. They are getting older and have so many classics that people just want to hear those so new Rush songs are going to be few and far between

He just doesn't use double bass in the way that we normally think of it...thrash/death metal, Motorhead playing "Overkill", etc.

He plays lots of triplets and uses them for fast cymbal flourishes. Watch the overhead shots of his solo on the "Time Machine" DVD, and you'll see him doing some very fast double bass rolls.
