I don't think the contest was rigged except in that there are a lot of teachers who wanted the teacher contestant to win. It isn't a black or white thing but the fact that teachers really stick together.

Also, the mechanical votes that Zach received that were taken away fooled real fans into not voting more as they thought he was in the lead by a wide margin.
