  • Nice job!

  • Great video and an even better song. U2 still makes the difference today and is by far the greatest music band in the UK

  • Wow… didn't know they were a Christian band.… makes them that much better

  • @kbibeast - yup...now, they're coming out of the closet...making it known to all...which is what was necessary...

I wondered why I had not heard this played on most secular stations...when you read the lyrics, you get it.

    L.

  • Love the video! Even the gruesome parts!

  • Nostams actually Bono is singing about for the Virgin Mary, our Holy Mother. He was inspired to sing a song for her. J.M.J.

  • Sí!! que genial canción, me enkanta k expresen sus formas de pensar, y sean rockeros al mismo tiempo.

Esta canción se merrece un 11, no un 10... Gracias u2!!

  • @daveg656 I love your video...u seem like a very interesting person..music is such a beautiful mehtod of expression..did u think alot about the words when u made this vid?

  • @sierraleonne111 Thanks for your comment, and yes I did think a lot about the words and hopefully the images I've used convey what I think the words mean

  • U2 is my favorite bad didn't. Even know they made music videos. Thanks for putting this up.

  • @stryker0411 Sure U2 make music videos - This one however is a 'home-made' music video - surely you would have spotted that.... [I'm slightly flattered]

  • U2 my favorite band. Didn't even know they made any music videos.

  • FYI Byronbee: U2 are Irish Christians. No one will ever change that since 432A.D thanks to St Patrick. Sorry man! Slainte. Don't bother with the lectures we've heard if all before from the Brits. zzzzz

  • Makes Life all worth while. Good Motivation. Make a difference. Love will conquer all.

  • Only Love CAN!!!

  • I love the Eucharist and I like U2. Eucharistic adoration and mass is the gift of God to the life of the world. Just one word: Magnificent video and music.

When i found your video, i know that the menssages is for alla who want to lheard and feel it....is a universal messange

  • What a beautiful video...and it happens to be accompanied by my favorite song. People of all religions should realize, it's really all one religion, one world. People who are born into any faith are trained as children into their parents beliefs. The religions they are born into is beyond their control....so accept it & get over it!

  • Wow this is very powerful

  • Praise the King and almighty Father Jesus Christ!

  • Praise the King Jesus Christ!

  • esta muy buena

  • Great video ..very clear what he is talking about. There is no agenda.

  • love what you have done with this......great work !!!

  • I love this song and this video!!! Bono is a man of faith...he sings a "joyful noise" !!!

  • one of my favourite u2 songs ...brilliant.

  • I <3 the pix!!!! :D

  • God only You are the Magnificent! Thank you for such a great song U2! This song is good for all times!!!

  • I love these guys ... the band U2 and Dog Savanna are the bands that I like to hear! Viva Rock!

  • magnificent

  • Awesome, this video and song are truly "magnificent", ok so that was a terrible effort at a joke. But really, you nailed this video man. "Only love can heal such a scar!" and "Justified till we die, you and I will magnify, the Magnificent!" I love this song as a profession of U2's faith and joy in being loved by the Magnificent. Great video. You combine U2's music (best band ever) and those pictures/clips, it makes a powerful message. Favorited!

  • magnificent song

  • u2 filmed the video for magnificent in a muslim country, morocco. much of their album was inspired by their trip to morocco, and they infused the album with north african musical influences.

i love U2 because they're not haters, they love all people. they don't pass judgment on others for being different.

  • brother,

realize that a lot of Christians do not pass judgment on others for being different.

    God bless....

  • this ones my favorite! favorited :D

  • Such a great song !!! With video MAGNIFICENT!!! For some comments before me !!! You don't know the mining of

Love anymore!!! And is not religios STUPID

  • Such a great song by inself!!! But with the video MAGNIFICENT!!!

  • Settle a debate for me someone please! At minute 2:15 in the video, is that Patrick Swayze or Bono. My money's on Swayze!

  • At 2.15, it's Bono whereas at 2.05 it's The Edge. Delighted to see that it's being analysed.. Try this one - who are the gentlemen at 1.05?

  • Bono`s father?

  • Second gentlman is Bono's Dad

  • @NasTKasT How can you confuse Bono for Swayze @ 2:15.... clearly it's Bono

  • I worship the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ with you Paul Hewson (aka Bono Vox). The King will return soon. Worship Him with passion that is due His name. Praise You Living God!

  • happy new year....to the world

    happy new decade...to the world

love and peace to the world!

  • happy 2010 everybody

  • Thank you :) ! HAPPY 2010 everybody !

  • Great job on the vid -- luv it!

  • This video rocks!!! You know I love it Dave!!! I come here all the time!!! Ciao, Donna

  • Wow...beautiful...tears on my eyes *-*

  • Merry Christmas everyone and God bless you and yours!!!!

  • This is magnificent! The most popular band in the world (whether YOU like them or not) has a hit album that is full of praise and worship. Sounds like rock and roll but moves hearts and proclaims the gospel worldwide. Praise the Lord! Bono is the greatest poet of our time.

  • What a beautiful song and lyrics. With video to match. I love U2 The greatest band ever!

  • God bless America!!!

  • Jesus Christ is a inspirational myth that 'really hits' the innate human spirit.

  • ToolsnFire,

Jesus Christ was the greatest influence on earth, his death and resurrection from death is what influenced the world to be a better place, gave most of the world a just legal system, and even influenced the calender you use (AD, BC, etc). If you think He is a myth, you just have not done your homework and/or simply displaying ignorance...don't come showing your foolishness...

  • Btw, the official music video by U2 with the sheets lifting off the city looks like a picture of New Jerusalem being revealed, filled with people of all nations. Beautiful song, and beautiful video!

  • Agreed with Nostams. The best part of the video was the marvelous natural scenes of this creation in the beginning, with the worst for sure being the creepy Catholic icons and images (illuminated neither by ignorance nor hate, but by that groups exhaustive record of bearing very very very bad fruit or abandoning Scripture for tradition, both important clues for someone who is discerning in following the Way).

  • "This foolishness can leave a heart black and blue

Only love, only love can leave such a mark

But only love, only love can heal such a scar "

    Awesome song and great video

  • magnificent!!!!!!!!!

  • Brilliant video. I love it. Beautiful song. It brought tears to my eyes.

  • This is hideous! I can't believe u've hijacked a great pop song for your religious puposes... i'm disgusted.

  • Certainly I am sorry to hear that you are disgusted, I have no intention of offending anyone. Sure, it's not technically brilliant, I'm just a humble Maths teacher, but it's not clear which aspect you consider 'hideous'. I do believe I have not 'hijacked' the song, merely interpreted it, as indicated in the video information. Of course we are each entitled to our own opinions but you have made me think about my 'religious purposes' and I'm still not sure what they are - I just love the song.

  • Great job. There's no doubt that Paul Hewson (aka Bono) is singing to the King of Kings; Jesus the Christ, My King, your King, the ONLY King.

I not crazy about the Catholicism element, but I understand the imagery.

I met Bono back stage in 1987 at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago through my friend and Bono's friend Tony Robinson. They went to a Christian school that wasn't Protestant or Catholic. It was non denominational. It's where Paul Hewson met the Living King (so did Larry and Dave).

  • No doubt Bono is singing to Jesus the Christ. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

While I'm not crazy about the Catholicism the imagery works.

Jesus Reigns! Bono, Larry and Dave know it to be true.

I saw them in 87 in Chicago and met Paul Hewson (aka Bono) back stage with his friend, my friend Tony Robinson. They both attended the same Christian school in Dublin.

Keep rocking boys! And rock for the King.

  • @Nostams x.x U2 isnt catholic x.x de be full blooded christian :P

  • @Nostams I agree with you. I don't know, I hear Adam's not into the Christian aspect of the band

  • lol...am muslim..I can't believe how all videos on youtube end up creating religious debates...even miley cyrus party in the usa did...anyway, u might be right from a certain point of view...but you have to admit you did 'hijack' the song to impose your view...is u2 preaching doctrine...hmm..not so sure for a huminatarian group which i totally respect... ease up man...

  • yeah i completely agree! every video now is said to be dedicated to a religion! no doubt some people are going to think that barney's song "i love you you love me" is a religious song and that it is telling you to convert or else god will have his wrath...

  • Hey, you leave Barney out of this! His love is unconditional, even if you are big and purple or green.

  • but dont take my comments offensively. im just saying that its bloody crazy how people are reffering every video to a religious debate

  • Amen

  • are you athiest by chance?

  • If the video clip has been made in nazareth... coz it looks kinda that sort of place...then that might over the top...lol..maths teacher might have a point...dont fight...

  • Have you looked beyond your little world that you live in.Have you looked beyond to see the creation that goes far beyond man himself.Words like disgusted and hideous seem like a selfish response. This whole world could use a lot more Kindness towards others.May God bless you.

  • @byronbee Lighten up dude! Listen and read the words once more, carefuly this time. Now try and write your comment again !!

  • @byronbee hijacking != interpreting. He interpreted this song in his way. He did not 'hijack' it.

  • @byronbee hijacking != interpreting. He interpreted this song in his way. He did not 'hijack' it.

  • @byronbee He didn't "hijack" the song...I believe he made it out of respect for the band. Good job, daveg656 :)

  • this pictures 5 stars great

  • MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!! Love the guitar part

  • love this song.♥

  • love this song, the edge is magic.

  • u2 is the best band of the world for

i see the band in the year 1984(first time)and the last concert 2009 in gelsenkirchen (Veltins-Arena)hammaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very good!!!!

  • Simple de best music, that i've ever seen...magnificient.

And this video, i don't haver word's to define, because it talk's himself deepley in my body

  • It is a beautiful video. I like the way they show the Pope arising the body of Christ.

    Magnificent

  • I watch this video and it makes me happier...the music is amazing...love U2...and the way you put it together!! LOVE it!

  • one of the best videos i´ve ever seen, very impressive

  • nice pics

  • Tears in my eyes, now...

  • Marvelous song!

  • Fantastic Video! I watch this video often and many of my friends love it too! Great work Dave!!!

  • About the lyrics: No doubt that they're christians and Bono's quite clear about the meaning of this one. But to all you wannabe-evangelists: Don't you think it's a bit pretentious to judge Bono and the boys according to your own criteria? That you already know what they really want to say or should say because you already know the whole truth? The good thing in U2's lyrics is that they never pretend to have all the answers because only God can know what God is and not any given "theology".

  • good response....and did you notice?...gasp...Bono draped a rosary over the microphone!

  • Very good.

  • SO COOL POWERFUL THANK YOU

  • In the lyrics and in the video, there is no mention of God..... so why pictures of Christ ???? God Almighty is upon the religions that human made for getting powers. But Love, the Real one, is universal and can touch anyone on that planet. That the power of love ! So Please, strech your hearts !!!

  • Eh... Bono is a Christian. I reckon it's appropriate.

  • Hmm - no mention of God or Christ? Who do you think "The Magnificent" is...?

  • God, Christ of course....did every single psalm mention "God"?

  • bellissimo!

  • Great video with a great testimony!!

    Loved it!!! God bless U2

  • Well done mate!

  • exelent video

  • Excellent! Work of art, both lyrics and video.

    P.S.Keeps me going everyday!!!

  • Great film Dave The lyrics were made for this.

  • Great imagery for a wonderful song..The Magnificat.....U2 for Christ! Also, great sound for a TV appearance.

  • Christ if the Son of God Almighty, no doubt. But why so shoking pictures ??? No need....

God is the Power of Love. The best way of feeling this Love is to be in Mother Nature.

  • Yes, the pictures are shocking - its shocking to think that Jesus was treated that way...But only Love can heal such a scar

  • Great video man. You captured Bono's intention perfectly here. Thanks man.

  • Wonderfull, very good Video it shows the really person who loves us.... Jesus!

    Well Done, Dude ;)

  • U2 is coming to Boston !! Yeah!!!

  • Thanks so much. Absolutely wonderful and indeed so much more meaningful than the original. A real, real blessing!!

  • Awesome! That's exactly how I feel when I hear this song. The Magnificent Christ!

  • I love this song, the best of new album.........

  • cette chanson est fenoménale bravo les gars...

  • Almighty Father,

Thank You for inspiring this band to write and perform this song. It makes me meditate on Your love and power every time I hear it.

  • You have us all pumped up with your reply , especially with happy tears in our eyes , thankyou .

  • Great song, and although it may have Christian connotations, and all that make believe ,it's still a good song.

  • Wonderfull, I´m Christian Catholic and I share this divine inspiration. It could be

cooler if U2 could sign this... By the way,

I found this version better than the original one ... God Bless the humanity...

  • Great song, great photography, great video...

  • 2u just u2

  • "Only love! Only love can leave such a mark." Thats truly epic, love this song!

  • This has to be a World Wide message sending classic ! From iceland to New zealand , then finally to the ancient midde east !

  • In a recent Rolling Stone magazine interview with Brian Hiatt, U2s Bono says that the song Magnificent is inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary. All music for me is worship of one kind or another, says Bono.

Magnificent was inspired by the Magnificat, a passage from the Gospel of Luke in the voice of the Virgin Mary that was previously set to music by Bach, says Bono. Theres this theme running through the album of surrender and devotion and all the things I find really difficult.

  • Matajahu69,

Wikipedia, says it's about a couple who wanted to turn their lives to worship. And it was Cole Porter, and Bach.

    God Bless,

    Robyn

  • Beautiful video!

  • Glorious magnificent composition. Congratulations to who made this video.

  • This is simply "Magnificent"! :D

  • U2 make a joyful noise.

  • This is one of their greatest songs.....sadly, the radio stations only play garbage now.

  • I forgot in my previous post to mention all the wonderful pictures that you used. How anyone can say that allthis just happened, well that is tohard for me to comprehend. God created a beautiful world for us to enjoy. And Bono's words just hit it right on the head. Thx again for creating this wonderful video.

    God Bless,

    Robyn

  • What a tremendous vidoe, thx for putting the effort into making it. It is wonderful. Thx for sharing it with all of us.

    God Bless, Robyn

  • "U2'S 2005 Vertigo tour promoted Bono's New Age, all-faith agenda. The word 'coexist' appeared on a giant screen -- the 'c' represented by the Islamic crescent, the 'x' by the Star of David, and the 't' by the Christian cross. Then the big screen displayed the favorite mantra/lie of the Emergent/New Age Church, "Everything you know is wrong." Bono led the audience in a chant, "Jesus, Jew, Mohammed -- all true!" "

  • es buen video, me parece que tu eres fan de la musica buena, tanto asi tienes la creatividad de juntar una execelente pelicula y una excelente cancion buenas imagenes.

    salu2

  • ""Magnificent" only managed to peak at #42 on the UK Singles Chart, the first time a U2 single failed to make Top 40 in the UK since "A Celebration" in 1982."

    Source - Wikipeida.

I guess younger people are not into U2.

The Fred Falke remix of this track is a corker.

  • Im 17 and am into U2....

  • um yea I'm 17 and U2 is on my top 3 bands....

  • Maravilhoso, eu amo esse BONOOOO

  • bad quality of sound

  • Yes you are right the audio came from a live TV performance. There is a good quality version I put on Tangle

  • what a fantasic clip

  • A-ha, u2, keane, cold play, great bands but i think in order of greatness, A-ha first then dublins best export u2,third cold play, then keane. this song has a load of a-ha sounds to it, you would think a-ha actually wrote this, do you all agree, by the way u2, briiliat song, and ell sung, one of your best, the other being. pride in the name of love, best lyrics ever written in a song,

  • naw, it's U2 first, and then the others, but definanley U2 first. Why, because for being a secular band their spirituality is heard in A LOT of their songs. You can tell that U2 are believers in The Magnificent.

    God Bless,

    Robyn

  • spirituality and music sometimes go hand in hand, u2 magnificent song may have spiritual meaning, but to someone such as myself, i have not one religious bone in my body, i like u2s song as a song, regarded highly in my book for the way it sounds, i never even knew it was a religious song, i just liked the music, but sorry to say, not as much as i like a-ha. especially the new album, foot of the mountain, buy the way i am a great big believer in what i see, mother nature is the greatest force.

  • mitsurugi989,

The Quran says in the Sura that Jesus is the word of God. So, if you're a Muslim, it sjouldn't be a problem.

  • I am a U2 Big fan and I like this song, but once I saw this video and knew that it is for a relegous porpose, I will not lession for them again by the way I am muslim and proud to be one

  • I won't apologise for the Christian point of view, but I am sorry to upset my Muslim brother - I'm sure we both see that God is Magnificent.

  • great response dave

  • The song is Christian. It was inspired by The Magnificat (The Song of Mary) a catholic prayer.

  • maginificent !

  • kinskisvemer, so what that some one puts a Christian perspective on it. There are Christians in Morroco. U2 were lucky some Islamofascist didn't attempt to blow them up. Get over yourself!

  • Who cares that this song was videotaped in Morroco? They were lucky some Islamofascist didn't blow them up....so, someone puts a Christian perspective on it...get over it!!

  • Phantastic!!!!

  • I love it!

  • u2 makes a video in fez, morrocco and sing about "love" and then you stick in jesus christ images!?!?!?! if there is a god, shouldn't he/she be one for all, whatever names and imagery people use to portray his powers? why didn't you include people of other races and religious backgrounds? (jews, muslims etc.)???

  • I agree with you, God is one for all. I originally put this together for my local school which is a Catholic school and hence the local New Zealand images. It is just my own interpretation of what I see the words could mean. I'm glad to have had my eyes opened to discussion with others of different views and languages (we Kiwis are kind of isolated), while remaining secure in my own beliefs.

[U2 did the awesome song, I just added some pictures] David G

  • Good ans Dave...May Allah bless you

    Greetings from Pakistan.

  • Great song weather you are an athiest or christian :)

  • ★☆♫ мagnιfιcent ♥ Oh oh oh oh♪ ★☆
