in another translation I've seen "ai wa sensou - Love is war"

and "koi wa moumoku - Love is Blind(ness)"

it seems "sensou - war", and "wa - is"

so I'm not sure if "Love - koi or ai"...

if anybody knows when love is used as "ai or koi" i'd like to know, or just if the translation was completely wrong ^^

"Ai" is love in general I think, be it sibling love, parental love or romantic love. While using "ai shiteru" as "I love you" is an extreme declaration of "I would really, truly die for you" devotion, anyone could use it, example: Lelouch in Code Geass to his sister, Nunnally.

"Koi", on the other hand, is romantic love. As far as I know, it's never used as a verb "koi suru", only as the noun.

Both are used a lot as nouns, but only "ai" can be used as a verb, as in "ai suru".

There are a few ways to say "I love you". "Suki" is your basic "I really like you." you might use when first confessing, "Daisuki" is "I really love you.", but this is used more about things than people ("I love this song!"). "Ai shiteru" is the very strong "I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you" level of feeling, which I've only heard once or twice.

@XxMoonlightSoulxX Actually, "suki" is an adjective - literally "watashi wa anata (no koto) ga suki desu" is "for me, you (and everything about you) is liked", but that sounds odd in English so it's changed to "I love you". While the sentence I gave is more correct for "I love you", you can just say "Suki" to someone, and it's kind of obvious from the context who you love.

You're right with "daisuki" - it's used for people and things, but I see it used more for things.

@newfrs You're right, yeah, "Koi wa sensou"/"Ai wa sensou" is "Love is War".

The "dearu" you've tagged on the end of that is technically the verb to be, but most people nowadays use "desu" rather than "dearu". "Dearu" is still used, but it's much more formal and only really found in essays and the like. As I've said in another comment, both "ai" and "koi" mean love, but while "ai" is all forms of love (familial, romantic etc), "koi" is just romantic love.
