Is this thing new in the US? They've been here in the UK for 11 years. I've been to germany in one before and the exhaust valve blew out after about 500 miles and the auto gearbox is appauling! Mind you, they were both T reg so very early models, dunno if they've been improved much since.

Absolutely... now, don't forget to wear your helmet when you drive your Corolla, and knee pads, and maybe you should hire an escort of Hummers with armed guards... pffffffffftttt... I hate to tell ya, dingaling, but if you check you'll find that the Smart Car, Mini Cooper & similar vehicles have much beefier passenger compartments than that Toyota you think is so safe. The integrity of the passenger compartment is much more important than the size of the vehicle.

I'd rather be on a motorcycle.

The name Smart comes from the two companies who paired to start this car. Swatch and Mercedes paired to creat this vehicle. Because of it's design and color choices they considered it art. Therefore you get SMART, Swatch Mercedes ART.

Nothing wrong with big cars. They are safer, not to mention they are made in hybrid versions now. If you want to save gas ride a motorcycle or a scooter. I'd rather get in a wreck on my bike than in a smart car.

the problems with with american cars. is that they put V8 in verything...and most of them are petrol, this is why in europe we have lots of 4 cilinder cars.....we have lots of diesel, and lots of smarts....and we save on fuel and we dont damage so much nature....but the olny thing that the american dont have is the hot version of the smart...the 100 hp Brabus smart! My had owns a 2002 smart (the old model)
