Perfect intro. Hear that track, see that 24v and say "oh...shit." And that engine sounds soo good. Hell, it sounded great in my old 626 automatic with the stock exhaust. It sounds heavenly with a good exhaust. I'm considering this swap. J-spec KL-ZE engines on eBay for 600 bucks.
@phaethon42 Thanks, man! Watch out for those 600$ "KLZE's" with the curve neck intake mani. You want the straight neck for a real ZE (intake manifold is still no guarantee, though), which will be more like 1250. Do enough research to know what you're getting before you buy one, those importers are a tricky bunch. I know you won't regret a ZE swap, though! ;)
This is just brilliant. Grew up with a 98 626 V6. The KL is a glorious little engine. I would love to put one in my P5. Do you have a build thread for the swap? Curious about engine and tranny mounts, dash wiring, the basics . . .
Thanks, mate. I really appreciate that. My friend (Prince Valorum) put the build thread link in the title. If you have any questions, I'm always will to help out.
I know its the same manual tranny. That wasn't the question. How'd the auto ecu work with the manual tranny? I admire that he was able to get that computer and MAF to work in conjunction with the manual tranny . . . but . . . its obvious that there's more to how it got done. I'm really interested in how he got that set-up without succombing to the tricky area of stand-alone computers. The car is great and looks like an awesome performer. He did an excellent job. I'm just curious.
@g151nilly Pretty sure that he didn't have to do anything extra for the ECU to work with the manual. The ECU is running the engine and that's it. He's still got the Protege ECU running the dash, cluster and stuff. The connectors for the auto trans are just left unplugged and it doesn't know the difference.
@g151nilly We just jumped two wires and grounded them to the chasis. Basically it tricks the ECU into thinking the tranny is in "PARK". Then the rest of the tranny harness clips were snipped off.
Sounds like a 350z from need for speed underground 2.

The millenia is auto though . . . How'd you work that with a manual tranny?

@g151nilly same manual tranny in the probe gt , mx3 and or mx6 v6.

What exhaust are you running on this? It sounds heavenly. Also, what car does the KL47 ECU come out of? I want to get rid of my VAF.
g151nilly 8 months ago
@g151nilly OBX headers > catless > CorkSport Power Series exhaust for the P5 w/ resonator. The KL 47 ECU is from a Millenia.
