  • I see still likes to interrupt others and carry on, but she hates being interrupted herself. One law for others, and a different one for her. Yes, indeed she is an awful egocentric know it all who lves the sound of her own voice.

  • Jeez, even 34 years ago she was an annoying twit. She has no credibility simply for the fact that she referred to Dianne Haskett, former mayor of London as a "parachute candidate" when they both ran in the 2006 by-election here. - May only came to London for the by-election, and had never lived here before.

  • Elizabeth May is such an anti-science quack. Typical quack using the Gish-Gallop technique to bombard her opponent with a ton of dubious claims that he cannot possible refute ad lib with such a limited amount of time. I just love how she now claims that Wifi causes causes while Tweeting about it with her wireless Blackberry - even though the preponderance of evidence and scientists state otherwise.

  • elizabeth may for PRIME MINISTER!!!

  • Well, even though the rest of her party didn't do that well in the recent election, she did win the seat in her riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands. It is the first time that the Green Party has had an elected seat in Ottawa.

  • Honestly, it's like she's the only major party leader who didn't turncoat at least once and always stayed on one side of the issue.

  • she is one smart woman. wish we had her as PM.

  • She is AWESOME! One bold, intelligent lady.

  • Poor Liz, she is really a goof.

  • May called her opponent a Nazi and continually interrupted him before he completed a single sentence. She's a bully. Her facts were wrong on several points as well. Not that she allowed her opponent a chance to counter her spurious arguments.

  • @Agrifix She didn't call him a Nazi, she compared his disinformation to Nazi tactics of disinformation. That's a legit comparison.

And you're accusing the college kid of bullying the guy who's supporting the spraying of poison on Canada's forests -- seriously? Which offense is more egregious?

  • I'd do her! Back in '78, that is. Now she is just a hideous ol' hag with the same shrill voice.

  • Let's not forget the Gomery crooked scandal by the Liberals when in power.

  • I look at the opposition parties all one crooked colitian party. The same crooked colitian party that tried to take the election vote away from the Canadian people to remove Harper as PM.

  • @BBQFanNo1 Psh. Except in REALITY most Canadians DIDN'T VOTE FOR HARPER. And since he's the worst PM ever and is incapable of governing, that coalition had every right to take over. That is if Scaredy-Harper hadn't run off and prorogued Parliament to AVOID the will of the people.

  • @zammmerjammer Eloquent - Most Canadians that voted DID vote for Harper - but excellent way to using words to twist minds. You'll make a great politician.

  • @thisiswilson2 Numbers don't lie. Most voters in 2008 voted for someone else -- Harper only got 36% of the popular vote. Add to that the low voter turnout and that's the support of only 22% of Canadians.

But continue to deny reality -- I realize that's the only way to be a HarperCon.

  • @zammmerjammer Most people weren't in the holocaust. See how you can manipulate statistics to make it sound in your favor?

ONLY 36%? But isn't that MORE than OTHER parties that DIDN'T win? I don't get it.

HarperCon? Is that like an Apple-juice reference?

I didn't vote Conservative in the last election, by the way.

  • @thisiswilson2 Ha ha! Did you just compare the election of Stephen Harper to the Holocaust? ...your words, not mine...

Yes, only 36% -- that does not fit the definition of MOST Canadians. MOST CANADIANS DID NOT VOTE FOR HARPER -- how much clearer does one have to be? In fact, 78% of Canadians did not vote for Harper. So this notion that the coalition "tried to take the election vote away from the Canadian people" is laughable.

  • @zammmerjammer

I didn't compare the two, but good cognition, you're a genius. Exaggeration is exaggeration, cloaking number with true -- but logically false numbers doesn't help anyone.

I did say "Most Canadians that voted -- again, you keep twisting words, keep that up.

We can agree on your last point -- the conservatives under Harper is a less than desirable one, but one that works in my and my future interests better than any other.

  • @thisiswilson2 Well, "you" must not be a woman, or an immigrant, or a single parent, or a parent, or a child, or an Aboriginal person, or a disabled person, or a reporter. If you're not, congratulations -- but even if you're not, democracy and the functioning of parliament ARE in your interests, present and future. Name me one area in which Harper has done even a decent job -- seriously, I'd love to hear it.

  • @thisiswilson2 Also, explain to me how evoking the Holocaust is an example of my "manipulating statistics"? More an example of poor hyperbolic comparisons on your part, actually.

A HarperCon is a term I use to distinguish these ideological Reform/Alliance halfwits from genuine Canadian conservatives and the party of Diefenbaker (or even Mulroney). I refuse to call Harper a Conservative -- it's a sickening misnomer.

  • If she ran for the Federal Liberal or NDP party leadership instead of the two faced hypocrite frauds Layton and Ignatief before that Dion crap against Harper I would actually vote for her.

But since the Liberals and NDP still don't have anybody better to chose from what they have now I have to vote for Harper again.

  • Liz May was the best Debater and knocked out Harper in the first round of the '08 Debates--according to media analysts.

Her compassion for social justice, environment and human rights for all, coupled with her legal training and intelligence....should have made her Prime Minister! The suits in there like Herr Harpo and the rest are gutless!

  • @Veltanschaung ...and unfortunately, Canada bankrupt.

  • she used to be skinny?

  • Comment removed

  • Shes been at it for a while.

  • The guy seems like a boner...like he doesn't understand the concept of management but thinks that spraying is/was the magic cure.

  • She should accuse the Harper Government of telling big lies often just like the Nazi propaganda!!

  • @njam101 I didn't want to say a credit to mankind - so I thought womankind is better and more applicable, given the circumstances. I remember the pre-political-correctness era, when being a woman wasn't quite on par, credibility wise, with being a man, in the eyes of men. But you are right, I should have said she is a credit to human-kind instead.

  • Elizabeth is a credit to womankind - look at the attempts to patronize her on the part of the interviewer - she keeps her composure and sticks to the facts. Right on sista!

  • @GreenThinker2007 we need a leader who is a "credit" to humankind, not just womankind, get it?

btw, itsn't using phrases like someone being a credit to their race, sex, or whatever kind of patronizing in and of itself?

  • Wow Oakley was right, she's basically the same person as she was as a kid!

  • Luckily time proves everything...May was right and spraying only prolongs spruce budworm outbreaks. People need to keep their hands out of natural cycles, and forestry practices such as monoculture, which promote widespread outbreaks, should be avoided. Hopefully next time around we manage our forests better in Atlantic Canada and not pander to industry which has left us in the dust.

  • putting big industry in their place back in 1978!! fiesty then and fiesty now and i love it!

she was right, how did the spraying working out for NS eh? most of the people commenting on here don't realize this isn't bitching as much as it is standing up for canadians against the self interests of industry and subsequent negative environmental impacts. those companies have long moved on, nova scotians now deal with the effects.

  • She uses easy catch phrases like Nazi propaganda, Salvage and Forest Management. But how do you propose to manage the forest. Have camp fires and sing Kumbaya.

  • A good politician listens and then finds the right time to go in for the kill. Her problem is she never shuts up to listen. She belongs on a Monty Python episode.

  • And how many seats does her POS party hold? That's right.

  • some technology she has, when did she decide to become a Beaver?

  • "Nazi" propaganda? She was always arrogant and over the top.

She is not from Cape Breton. She was born and raised in the U.S.A. You Greens need to find another hero. This woman in unelectable, and a liar. Search for what she did to John Shavluk.

  • @darrenroskam 'she was born and raised in the states.' And you point? And are you saying Stephen harper or Michael Ignatieff never told a lie?

  • Its ironic she would call him a nazi when most of the environmental movement was trying to figure out ways of limiting the human population in the 1970s.

  • Isn't she american? who moved to canada

  • @1988scottcarey

Ya... sadly... Shes from Maine... but I think she was only young though, when she was an American...

  • They had paper and boards back in 1978? whoaa i thought ive seen it all

  • She is an alternative to the tories...she is fiscally astute and knowledgeable....

The green part is the problem....

Politically she makes the right sounds but...no seats means no one trusts her.

  • Didn't know how to shut up and listen back then either.

  • Douchebag.

  • JJ, you're a Douchebag.

  • JJ, you're a wiener.

  • @jimmyjames75 Apparently not. lol

  • ... too bad how some people commenting here focus more on her looks/clothes/gender than on the argument she presents.

  • Wow she was even uglier 32 years ago.

  • Comparing her opponents to fascists and calling their work "propaganda." I guess she hasn't changed.

  • Hasn't changed a bit. :)

  • Good for her!

  • Isn't 1978 when the environmentalists were worried about Global Warming?

  • 0:46 ahh hello. Thanks Elizabeth I've already woken up to what you are really all about.

  • Oh, man. I love Elizabeth May so much.

  • the hitler style big lie..... like humans changing the climate and only big govenmemt can stop it, yeah she is an asshole, imagine being married to that .....yikes

  • @yukoncornileus4

    LOL!!!! ROTFL!!!

How could a guy EVER get "intimate' with "THAT"! ROTFL!!!

She is simply oblivious to anything. Except hugging a tree.

Maybe she would be a good wife to a tree. (?) It only takes 4 years to make a reasonable sized "branch" LOL!!

  • I suppose big business would be better? Oh wait, they're causing it as we speak... you're an idiot

  • @yukoncornileus4 How can you say such a thing? Now I May (pun intended) have nightmares.

  • @darkoanton5 The bitching would never stop, imagine putting the wrong thing in the garbage at the May house, what a hell

  • She was just as rude then as she is now. Her M.O. is to talk fast and keep the debate emotional, with just enough facts to make it SEEM reasonable, but with complete disregard of context and reality.

    Bozo.

  • She was actually kind of cute.

  • @vkeightyfive And also still very stupid. Rule of Nazi: Anyone who makes contemporary comparisons to Nazis generally isn't interested in reality.

  • @vkeightyfive Time made his destruction...

  • Elizabeth May Knew more then ,than most canadians know today . I applaud her courage to stand up to all the economic growth bullies out there ,who would sell their children to make a buck .

  • Wow, she was an annoying a-hole even way back then!

  • I would rather vote for the NDP or Liberals than vote for this bitch.

  • If only she could learn to debate like that against Harper: I found her very rude, condescending and having no credibility against Harper and the like in the last national elections. Thank goodness she won't be able to debate next time around! Very shrill, unreasoned and annoying!

  • The Green Party isn't even viewed as a party. They hardly get enough time on TV or attention in the media.

  • Her vision will not work either as she too can not see the trees through the forest.

  • "Well you see we have a problem here..."

She still uses that line today. Just saying.

  • Well done Elizabeth. You, as I believe one might say in contemporary vernacular, pwned that sucka.

  • WOW! Excellent!

  • She misquotes the Nazis. Hitler was referring to the Jews in that famous "bigger the lie" quote!

  • 30 years of activism, and still no one cares what she says!

  • I care.

  • I care too!

  • That was pretty damn funny!

  • :D she is amazing! she toooold him

  • What a brave, brave woman! Admiringly.

  • I agree

  • she was annoying back then and she's still annoying now

  • She's a very forceful person. And anyone out to kick big industry and corporate ass is a good and admirable friend of mine. Too bad she subscribes to a delusive and misguided gender feminist ideology (ha, ha, betcha didn't see that coming.)

  • @unfortunatebeam

lol no i didnt see that coming - nice one!

But yeah I'm still voting for her though. I want an opposition that kicks ass and takes names. There has been a very disappointing decline in the quality and quantity of ass-kicking in government in the last 20 years. We need more Elizabeth Mays.

  • @icarus313 she has no chance. I know it's questionable and frowned on, but I have to vote for whatever party right now is closest to beating Harper's Conservatives. The latter I think are just too good for nothing, serving of the global plutocracy, and destructive to remain in the voter's confidence any longer. Right now, the closest are the Ignatief's Liberals.

  • You have to do your homework, just voting for the perceived best bet leader's choice is completely ignorant of how the first past the post system works! check out catch22 web site

  • @GreenThinker2007 I'm not looking to argue about voting systems here. I simply said I'm going to vote for the party that can come closest to ousting Harper's conservatives, according to who in the polls, Layton or Ignatief, come closest on the day before the election. That's all. I don't usually vote that way--I usually vote green--but this time around is different because of how crucial it is just to get Harper out.

  • @unfortunatebeam Think future, long future.....not just next year. If you vote Liberal, you will get more of the same just with a different face. This planet needs change and compassion and all Ignatieff will do is rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. Vote Green and maybe you will be part of that change. I have always voted Conservative (to get/keep Liberals out), but this time I'm voting with an eye on the future of our planet.

  • she kicked his asssss

  • Yeah I'm defending Prime Minister Harper. He's our democratically elected Prime Minister. Show a little respect please.

  • @g4sy *pukes*

  • She was not bad looking then.

  • don't agree with her politics but i'll never want to see people lay off big business. they need to be watched. problem is that insurance companies don't leave stumps behind for all to see.

  • Wow... the technology!!!

  • Oh shat up

  • wow cute woman

  • Justice to the environment.

  • No, he doesn't "tear her apart".

He begins to use the book as contradictory evidence for her argument.

Two points that you cannot argue:

    1. We do not know the information word-for-word in the book and you cannot assume that what he is arguing is in fact directly supported by the premises.

    2. The video cuts off when Elizabeth May begins to counter-argue.

  • Right. But I've grown up around greennicks like her and I've listened to that banderbuck all my life and I know that the counter-argument is rarely coherent and never truthful. I watched and listened to her during the canadian leaders debate and she didn't add ANYTHING to the argument that would legitimize the greennicks positions. Harper is the incumbent winner because no-one else has anything new to say.

  • From what you said, if the "counter-argument" isn't coherent, then you're contradicting your entire argument in the first place.

But, putting that, and your folksiness, aside, you are misinformed; one new thing HAS been said:

    THE GREEN SHIFT!

I'm sorry if you forgot about that one minute detail that might change the entire election.

  • I'm not ashamed of my "folksiness" whatever that is (sounds like a made-up propaganda word, and I try to avoid being imbibed by the propaganda machines of my culture).

I am aware of Teh Green Shift. I'm all for protecting... the world around us. But that green shift stuff is bull$#(*@. I've read their tax plan and it's crap. in the words of snoop dog (class A idiot): It ain't easy being greasy. er... green. I respect his message just about as much as I respect the "green" message

  • You sound a little biased, but that is no matter; fundamental differences between values are what produce election results.

The one thing your extreme bias against the Green Shift tax plan does skew is the actual argument you're making and whether or not the issue is actually "banderbuck" and "never truthful" at all.

Agree to disagree fundamentally I suppose.

Although I would say that, in comparing Canadians, those who respect the Green Shift are more numerous than those who do not.

  • g4sy, you think HARPER has anything NEW (!) to say. AAAAHAHAHAHAAA!!! His tired age old pro corporate, pro neo-liberal "free" market economics (there was NEVER before in history an ideology that caused so much human suffering AND environmental damage as ultra capitalist, neo-"liberal" dogma), is anything but new. I do believe its time to pull your deluded head out of your power elites asses.

  • sometimes, you have to repeat to an idiot that he is lying like May does here.

  • Hey! She's pretty attractive.

  • She was then

  • Yes she is. To bad she didn't keep her looks--although one shouldn't judge her abilities for that of course. Everyone has to get older. I don't know why someone gave you a thumbs down. What's so bad with calling someone attractive?

  • Yeah well some are partisans. She was pretty hot, age is such a cruel master to us all.

  • Wow, we need more people like this getting into politics and leading this country!

  • VOTE GREEN or kyagb!

    WIN LIZZY WIN!!

  • Wow! Can't wait to hear Elizabeth May speak in the upcoming Canadian Federal Election leaders' debate!!!
