"We have decided that the issue of the legality of the income tax is not a high priority matter of the White House, and we will not be participating in any conference on the subject"
(For those of you who don't speak Politicalese, allow me to translate: "Fuck you.")
Conspiracy theories like this one divert attention from things that really matter.
Pay your taxes just like everyone else does. If you don't like what the govt does with the money, write a letter to your congressman, or better yet, run for congress yourself.
Everyone thinks their taxes are too high. I think so too. But saying that taxes are unneeded is absurd
"Horsefeathers" doesn't refute the fact that nobody in the film was able to point to a law saying that we're REQUIRED to pay the Federal Income Tax.....and you can't do it either.
OK, here's a direct quote from the 16th Amendment to the constitution:
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
@andharvey8 The 16th ammendmendment was never properly ratified Ohio one of the states that voted on the ratification was at the time not a proclamated state because the United States Congress did not pass an official proclamation (Pub. L. 204) recognizing the date of Ohio's 1803 admission to statehood until 1953
Mark Everson is an idiot. It is clear that the services he refers to are left to the states in the constitution other than the Navy, which is considered national. I think that times have changed, but our politicians have circumvented the constitution.
While the income tax was not considered under the constitution, I do not think a FLAT TAX - amount or percent - is unconstitutional. Howver, the current so called progressive income tax structure and FICA clearly are unconstitutional.
as the IRS commissioner, it's a frickin' shame that he couldn't do anything other than give his own OPINION as to why we should pay Federal taxes. They were asking for the LAW...not his feelings on the matter.

@iggsta3o5
And that argument was refuted by the courts in Baker v. Commissioner; and several other supreme court cases as well.
