Thanks for reading the bill AB 2072 three times. I appreciate your times and efforts to express your opinion on this vlog. I admire your honesty and intelligence. You are a true hero serving the deaf community in general. God bless you.
Well, I don't have as much energy and ambition as yours. I may be quick to assume, but it seems that you don't include all of my comments here. The point is that AB 2072 represses ASL rather than gives the parents of deaf children the truth. Just in case if you make profit from CI industries, you'll have a guilty conscious later on. You won't want that. If I'm wrong, then my apology. I just know that I'm not wrong about ASL. Nice to know you. God bless you.
@Salticid68 As far as I know I've not rejected any of your comments. Forgive me if I'm mistaken. I do reject some comments that did not reflect healthy discussion and may have mistaken that one for somebody else. I respectfully disagree about AB 2073 and how it represses ASL. I do not see CI as a profit venture but somebody has to get paid for developing such technology and installing them just like people in the ASL industry get paid for teaching publishing, selling and teaching ASL.
@Salticid68 It's just that ASL is not as big of a money making machine as CI is but it's not their fault. Medical technology is expensive no matter what it is. CI is no different. God bless you as well.
@theHolism Whew! I have energy back. I guess I forgot to sleep. Lol. Yes, I agree on that. Believe me, pharmacy companies overcharge us. They charge a prescription pills to farmers for a sheep's heart worm 100 times cheaper than they charge the same pill to us for something I forgot. If you're interested, you can research. I'm not very excellent with google search like which I should type "overcharge pills", "pharmacy companies overcharge us", or whatever.
Parents of deaf children who don't learn sign language and force them to be trained in oral. For average deaf and hearing people, learning ASL is easier and more successful than learning oral. Don't you think that parents of deaf children are selfish?
@Salticid68 One thing is clear. Some of you try to speak for the parents of deaf children. Don't speak for them. Don't assume things for them. Instead, educate them. It takes patience and time to educate them. Forcing them to see things your way will never work. ASL is easier to learn. No doubt about that. I agree. But again we can't speak for others and decide what's easier for them. Some find no problem learning how to speak just as some find no problem learning ASL. We're all different.
@theHolism Yes, I totally agree with you. I don't speak or assumer things for the parents of deaf children. We show them what work best for the deaf children. You were talking about force. That's my point. I was saying that they force deaf children against their will. Can't you see that parents are being selfish? If not, they have been withheld from the truth. They're too greedy to tell the truth. Do you get the whole picture yet?
@Salticid68 This is where we'll have to agree to disagree. I do not see them as 'forcing' deaf children against their will. They see it as a medical issue therefore as in any medical field they're always going to try and help the situation. Do I see the parents as selfish. No I don't. Really, I don't. Instead I see the big "D" deaf people as selfish because they are more worried about keeping their closed society intact. That's how I see it.
I realized I wasn't paying attention to every words. My apology. I see your point that newer CI are better. However, it doesn't change the fact that it's still risky. There are many ways to accommodate a deaf child w/o CI. So, why is it okay to gamble deaf babies' lives? Who gives them right or privilege to murder us? Why can't I murder audists? Under ADA law, it's illegal to force a child with equipment against his/her will. Why don't they wait for them to become 18 yrs old & let them decide?
@Salticid68 There is risk in everything, including ASL. If you observed many deaf people who used ASL are still stuck in ASL and do not expand themselves to learn English language simply because ASL is too convenient and easy for them. I know many deaf people who are sto glued into ASL that they don't bother learning English language. Risk free? No such thing. But can't argue against the fact that CI has gotten so much better. CI works best when exposed to babies earlier than later.
@theHolism Yes, you're right that many stick with ASL. It's b/c it's the language they can communicate with as ASL is a visual language and they're deaf. It's untrue that ASL users don't expand themselves to learn English. Researchers have repeatedly shown proof that Deaf students understand English better & faster through ASL. As you can see here that my English is fine. It's not that we glue to or stuck in ASL. It's such a language. So, you're okay with forcing babies against their will?
@Salticid68 I am not saying that they are wrong for sticking with ASL. I'm saying many deaf people I know simply do not use ASL as a bridge to expand into the next level. They simply stay there because it's too comfortable. Read many ASL people's letters / responses to the politicians and you'll see why they do not think highly of ASL. The recent opposition against the bill is one example. It only told the legislatures one thing. These so-called ASL people can't seem to read too well.
@theHolism I'm surprised that many deaf ppl, who you know, don't use ASL as a bridge to expand into the next level. I thought it was the other way. I grew up with either oral English teachers or English teachers using with SEE or bad ASL, my English was too terrible as a senior in h.s. My English skill was jumped up a few levels in only two years at Gally when I had Deaf English professors using ASL. It's stereotype that ASL ppl don't read well. I know many hearing ppl don't write or read well.
@Salticid68 I agree with you about many hearing people who do not write or read well but they do not lack spoken English language for it is their first language. That is for sure. They do not need to build a bridge to fit into the majority since everybody over there can speak. We are the one that have to build a bridge to connect with that world therefore We need to encourage ASL people to build that bridge and not become too comfortable in ASL and stay there.
@Salticid68 Forcing babies to get CI is not an issue here. It's a silly argument that's been used again and again. Simply put. The baby does not have the ability to understand the ramifications of these options therefore they are not capable of rejecting or accepting anything. Therefore the parents steps in and do what they think is best for their child. They meant well and you can't deny that.
I totally agree with you on how closed of a society DBC can be. I don't understand their opposition to this bill also. I think it is a wonderful opportunity for the deaf community to provide their information along with the medical field's information. This way, parents of deaf children are able to decide better on what's the best for their child.
You were saying that ASL doesn't work for everyone. Who or what type of people are you talking about? Haven't you thought that CI is forced on babies against their will? Don't you know that greedy CI industries and their doctors don't inform parents of deaf children full information as it have happened? Haven't you thought that as so-called options are given, not all deaf children will not use ASL?
@theHolism You got your point that not every one have the same degree of hearing loss, but every one of them can learn ASL. As we know that oral works for a few. With AB 2072, not every deaf children will use ASL. What is wrong with beautiful ASL? You have ASL skill. We learn English better through ASL. In few cases, deaf babies were killed by CI. Why gamble with our life just for low successful rated CI? Shouldn't it be illegal? In most cases, CIs are too painful for the users.
@Salticid68 Fear factor coming from you again. Is that the only thing you understand, really? ASL is not for every deaf people. It all depends on their degree of hearing losses. Some people have natural ability to learn how to speak even if they can't hear. Some don't have that natural skill therefore ASL is great choice for them. There is no such thing as one size fits all. Make CI illegal? No. I don't think it should be illegal because it has helped more people than it killed them.
@theHolism Oh, please! I didn't intend to use fear factor. I thought ASL is for every deaf ppl, because it's a visual language. I am sorry you think it's okay to gamble with our lives. That hurts me. Life is too valuable. What about pain? Most (not all) users have very bad headaches. What about low successful rate?
@Salticid68 ASL is for everybody but not everybody want to use it. I know many people who know ASL but choose not to use it and it is their rights to decide. I also know many CI people and they don't complain of headache and pain. Headache, pain and low success rate? You must be talking about old technology they used but CI has gotten so much better today, painless and almost risk free if not totally.
@theHolism I don't know anyone, except for a few hearing-minded ones, choose not to use ASL. Yes, I agree it's their rights to decide. They're welcome to use any other language. It's free. There are many deaf adults had their CIs removed. It is very painful procedure and very costly. Yes, newer CI is better, but it's not painless yet. My own former friend. whose parents are wealthy. had a best CI surgeon. His facial expression was partially damaged and still has mild headache.
@Salticid68 Yeah. I hear stuff like this all the time but seen it directly. Always hear rumors like this all over the map but never see them in person. The only people I see in person are happy CI users. And I meet a lot of them, hear from them often due to my stance on DVTV. They know I'm there for them so they come forward in great numbers. Not one complained about CI. For that reason, I don't know how credible these rumors are and won't know until the numbers begin to show up.
@theHolism Wow, I find that strange. Maybe it's your fate to meet or see happy CI users and my fate unhappy CI users. Or an extremely coincidence? I think CI industries should pay you well for advertising CI. I don't meet many people lately, but I happen to come across a CI user, who worked at a store. His face was too grotesque that much it really scared me and hard for me to focus on his face. I think plenty of CI users are at Gally. You can break your fate to see them there.
@Salticid68 Ha ha... I would not take a pretty penny for anything that has to do with deafness. Never have and never will. It's a cause I find worthy to review, discuss, debate and fight for. Not about money for me. Not at all. I'm sure there were some unfortunate incidents but there are many different factors that could cause it, including infections. I'm not a doctor so I don't pass judgement on anything.
@theHolism It's nice to know that you won't take a penny for that. Just a few comments were missing. Maybe I'm mistaken. I didn't count my comments. Yes, they see us as medical term. Deaf can be hereditary. It's not recessive nor dominant gene. As for infection, we need that once in a while to strengthen our immune system. I learned at biology 101 that if you use antibacterial soap excessively, your immune system will be weaken. I don't care for that. I just concern about CI.
Also, "...also require that parents of a infant diagnosed with a hearing loss BE PROVIDED written/electronic information on SPECIFIED communication options for children with hearing loss by an AUDIOLOGIST or other RELATED PROFESSIONAL at a followup appointment. You interpret this. Who are audiologists? They support ASL? I guarantee you they'll PUSH parents into having cochlear implant done on their deaf child. Why? Audiologist has nothing to do with the hospital that indicate in the Bill.
@JefferyBuckmaster The fear factor you are trying to instill into people's head won't fly. The politicians will not understand the point you're trying to make simply because they do not have the life experience to know whether you're telling the truth. Assumptions never stand in the legislative floor. So, bring some hard facts and evidences to the table. Can you? No.
I google AB2072 and read the Bill... availability of resources & services was quoted in the AB2072. My interpretation of that is... I bet you... all hospital and audiologists would not even offer about ASL and Deaf school—they would feed information on cochlear implant and oral program, because all of these doctors/nurses are hearing and not fully educated about ASL and Deaf school.
@JefferyBuckmaster Tough break. They are not educated about ASL because we as a deaf community have been sending out negative messages instead of positive. Now whose fault is that? People like you.
barry, caught someone else on under comment of yours, its 106 of picard90, he says deaf and audiologist both will having a provide all of em else then it will easier than argue. that's the one as same as my thoughts. its pretty good idea but its toughest for deaf cuz of very smallest. =o/ many thanks again, barry =o)
forget to add that i would say - know why noticed deaf are very smallest in the world, it seems cant afford to force something. guess i can do nothing with ab 2072 becuz a bill is for a hearing options for a children with hearing loss. so where the bill information for a deaf to show a hearing parents, it nothings. it make a sense, well? if i am wrong.
@ASLFantastic2009 It looks like we're talking about two different things here. Hearing professionals use the first definition in the dictionary, that of deafness. ASL deaf people use the fourth of fifth definition in the dictionary. There is a friction because hearing people are talking about apples while deaf ASL community are talking about oranges. Not the same thing. We tend to dismiss the dictionary's first definition on deaf. When will we learn to fight back by talking about apples?
@theHolism hi barry again, i saw your under comment of you which is true about no confidence. i can fully understand all what you talk about. its sad to see that calif deaf people seems failure to understand what the all communication options mean. wow! barry, nothing to say add. your vlogs' very clearly exactly. thanks. =o)
hi barry, find it interesting in me which is about ab 2072 by recently, i aint surprised that calif whoever the deaf member of any company not accept that bill of ab 2072. well, as for me, it seems good that there have a provide all communication, options for a deaf children which is a hearing parents' decide to choose. by the way, fully agree with some fews on under dvtv. its so amazing. thanks! keep it up. (thumb up)
Good vlog, Barry.... I wish they would change their mind to vote YES on AB 2072 since it would be best option for ASL for their deaf newborn babies, however they choose to oppose it....
@SunHearts65 Hi. I find it hard to believe too. Amazing how closed of a society DBC is. More and more people are beginning to realize it though and it'll be a matter of time before they (themselves) realize it as well. Some people take a long time to realize many of the simple things life has to offer.
Hi! Let you know, I was busy involved with AFCL, American for Conservative Leadership... so far, I watch your vlog, I love your vlog and I learned so much about closed society and that is where AFCL were discussed about... It make me understand more and more everyday! Be glad to be conservative and always!
I would like to add one more thing, if you please. I have been the silent supporter of DBC, I understand their point completely and I am trying to get them into this perspective. I've read the AB-2072 legislative bill and you see the word, "all", in their new enactment - it means ALL kinds of communication modes including ASL! Also, the audiologists are not the only professionals who will deliver this information. By the way, please clarify which state agency ASAP. Thank you!
@flowerskidaho Hi friend. Appreciate your insights and thoughts on this matter. It's our hope that deaf people in general, not just DBC but everybody will realize the value of this bill rather than trying to bury what could be a great tool. Knowing and understanding how to use a tool is very important. The tool may not appear friendly or pretty in our book but it's still useful and could be used to give us the leverage we long sought after. Which state agencies? I've not researched yet.
I agree with you 100% that we need to show our flexibility to the hearing community in order to collaborate for the deaf issues. We as the members and non-members of CAD could learn their point of views while they learn ours simultaneously. That way things would work out for the best for all of us. According to DBC, they have decided to forfeit this legislative bill unfortunately. I hope that the votes will overpower this bill. Thank you, Barry!
Looking at the bill, I will agree that "all communication options" theoretically will include every possible options including ASL. What is it that makes them think it doesn't? Any wording that includes "audiologist", appears to affect them deeply. Again, the same group of people think that they can dictate to the majority of hearing parents how a deaf child should be raised as if the child is theirs. This bill seems to be good because it leaves decision up to the informed parent.
I was thinking the same thing after viewing this video by Ella Lentz where she pretty much indicated the importance of including ASL and then add in any other option. Two things here. One is that the part where it says "by an audiologist or other related professional" is what got them riled up, in my estimation. Another thing, there's nothing in that law that will keep track of ensuring "all communication option" being disseminated by assumed audiologist or other related professionals. con't
@gamaswanderings Yeah. I understand that there would be no way to keep track to make sure that they are following the law but how is that different than what we have today? We have zero legal grounds to make sure that they are playing fair with us. With this new bill, we'd gain a huge leverage and legal grounds to protest legally if we ever catch a biased audiologist, which is much more than what we have to work with today. Info age will work against audiologists (closed society) too as well.
Very interesting Barry, Thank you for posting this up, I wasn't aware of this new bill and whats more, the Hearings do know who we are as deaf/ASL People! We are just as equal as they are! Open mind is more powerful with concerns and best for us as we to them! Such a shame how other Deaf don't think that! Is there anyway they can un-think of their wrong doing action's to think twice about their part? I guess the blame goes to Closed Society? We know who!
Thanks for reading the bill AB 2072 three times. I appreciate your times and efforts to express your opinion on this vlog. I admire your honesty and intelligence. You are a true hero serving the deaf community in general. God bless you.

ASLFantastic2009 1 year ago
forget to add that i would say - know why noticed deaf are very smallest in the world, it seems cant afford to force something. guess i can do nothing with ab 2072 becuz a bill is for a hearing options for a children with hearing loss. so where the bill information for a deaf to show a hearing parents, it nothings. it make a sense, well? if i am wrong.
ASLFantastic2009 1 year ago
@ASLFantastic2009 It looks like we're talking about two different things here. Hearing professionals use the first definition in the dictionary, that of deafness. ASL deaf people use the fourth of fifth definition in the dictionary. There is a friction because hearing people are talking about apples while deaf ASL community are talking about oranges. Not the same thing. We tend to dismiss the dictionary's first definition on deaf. When will we learn to fight back by talking about apples?

@theHolism hi barry again, i saw your under comment of you which is true about no confidence. i can fully understand all what you talk about. its sad to see that calif deaf people seems failure to understand what the all communication options mean. wow! barry, nothing to say add. your vlogs' very clearly exactly. thanks. =o)
ASLFantastic2009 1 year ago
hi barry, find it interesting in me which is about ab 2072 by recently, i aint surprised that calif whoever the deaf member of any company not accept that bill of ab 2072. well, as for me, it seems good that there have a provide all communication, options for a deaf children which is a hearing parents' decide to choose. by the way, fully agree with some fews on under dvtv. its so amazing. thanks! keep it up. (thumb up)

Good vlog, Barry.... I wish they would change their mind to vote YES on AB 2072 since it would be best option for ASL for their deaf newborn babies, however they choose to oppose it....
Hard to believe it....

Thank you!
flowerskidaho 1 year ago

This bill seems to be good because it leaves decision up to the informed parent.
gamaswanderings 1 year ago
@gamaswanderings I agree, totally. Thanks for the 'comment' contribution.
theHolism 1 year ago
I was thinking the same thing after viewing this video by Ella Lentz where she pretty much indicated the importance of including ASL and then add in any other option. Two things here. One is that the part where it says "by an audiologist or other related professional" is what got them riled up, in my estimation. Another thing, there's nothing in that law that will keep track of ensuring "all communication option" being disseminated by assumed audiologist or other related professionals. con't
gamaswanderings 1 year ago
@gamaswanderings Yeah. I understand that there would be no way to keep track to make sure that they are following the law but how is that different than what we have today? We have zero legal grounds to make sure that they are playing fair with us. With this new bill, we'd gain a huge leverage and legal grounds to protest legally if we ever catch a biased audiologist, which is much more than what we have to work with today. Info age will work against audiologists (closed society) too as well.

Ha ha, your comment reply @ DVTV to Kraut about the Bison Jump. I agree.
BigBenFactor 1 year ago
@BigBenFactor Bison run is what it looks like with DBC and Deafhood rallying deaf people to go against this bill!
