@waz00z If you have a slab floor, then you can probably instal your tile with out any underlayment, it is done that way all the time. You can also use Schluter Ditra if you like, this will uncouple your tile from the slab and provide vapor equalization under the ditra for any moisture in the concrete that might still be present, occur in the future. If you want to find out more about it just type Schluter Ditra into the youtube search bar.
... Very nice job, just about to start my kitchen floor soon. Despite what other people say about faults and water getting under... it doesn't really matter. The time it will take for any defects to appear should take a while anyway. They can always be fixed and put right very quickly. No big deal. This job looks perfect.
@RunRoyRun4SOS You should get a few estimates, might not cost as much as you think it might. You might only need to win a few hands at Blackjack at the nearest Casino.

Salbibs...I stand by my word & yes I'm "in the business" uhm, STARRTILE, LOL ! Been doing tile for 12 years, hello ! A ''waterproofing solution" as you put it is not needed, did you hear me ? Encapsulate water under the tile, it'll eat away at the mortar, hence causing it to get weak, hence your tile comes up. No rocket science here, common sence dictates. I think 12 years of tiling & having BUILT bathrooms @ 2 a month for 8 years, sorta makes me an expert. Sealer on tile/grout is all, simple...
@StarrTile I am not sure why you think this way, this is a kitchen floor, mine I might add. Why are you so concerned about water penetration. If water gets under the tile it can also get out. This is unmodified thinset so there is no danger that the polymers can re-emulsify when it gets wet. and there would need to be a hell of a lot of water to do that. also what kind of adhesives do you use when installing tile in a shower environment., in particular the tile on the shower floor.
@StarrTile Ummmmm.... water will eat away at the thinset? What do you do with a pool or water fountain, and before you answer, keep in mind I've installed over a dozen olympic sized pools.
Not bad, but its still just a floor...6minutes of video on a floor is a bit excessive. Now this Dita Membrane, or ANY membrane for a floor or wall is DANGEROUS !! Think about it, should water get past the grout & underneith the tile, it'll STAY there...can't evaporate and it'll make the mortar weak, eventually breaking down its adhesive properties causing the tile to pop up ! Sometimes there is NOT a better mousetrap & overkill will kill good intentions...I'm just saying....
@StarrTile I don't know if you are in this trade or no, but you seem to be miss informed as to the funtion of an uncoupling membrane such as the one made by schluter. Not only does it uncouple the tile from the floor, but when used in u.conjunction with Kerri it can server as a waterproofing solution for tile floors. You might want to become familiar with modern tile setting methods.
wow i am impressed. seems alot of extra measuring and headache hehe i am sure if i attempted there'd be nice huge gaps all over the place. btw what is that orange stuff?

@crossfireservice Baseboard was installed after I posted this video. I plan on taking down the paneling one day, just need to find the motivation and time.
all the same man Really good tile job. I have not had the chance to lay a border on any of my tile jobs. I have done a bunch of patterns and styles but never a border on the floor...NICE REALLY...my friend installed the border in my house with Saltillo tile back when I didn't know much about tiling..he never finished sealing it though the bastard I had to spend three days sealing the darn stuff..lol
Good job Man, I also do floor only on my houses, but I busted my meniscus and now he takes me much longer, be very careful with your knees, and use the best pad that money can buy, again good job
i'm a flooring contractor myself and i do have to say nice job guys it looks great.
i have used ditra on many jobs and find it is a great product especially where moisture is an issue.
if i have to use backer board ie because maybe the customer doesnt want to spend the money on ditra i use denshield which i find to be about the best backer board i have used. anyhow that being said keep up the good work guys. far too many wannabe tilers out there that think they know it. but dont.
nice homey cottage look, hope it doesnt get torn out when the grout gets dirty. i like this color i put 2000 sq feet in my down stairs without the grout lines i did not get the lips perfect so next year im grinding and honing them for fun. i bought a used buffer from a hospital for 10 bucks, fixed it, mounted a round board with 5 diamond saw blades on it, man it can hog down concrete fast.

Does this orange thing cost less than installing backer board? This seems much eaiser to install than backer board. Does it cost the same? Also, would Home Depot or Lowes carry this orange thing? You did a pretty amazing job by the way. I plan on tiling my kitchen. It will be my first time. I won't mess with boarders though. Just simple stack pattern. When I get the hang of it then I'll try more complexed pattern like yours. Great job!
Some Big box stores carry it, but you might be better off getting it at a tile supply store. It's called Schluter Ditra and when it's all said and done it will cost a little more than a CBU, but it will give you a superior job. Make sure you get the right thinset for your substrate and always use unmodified thinset to set your tiles on the Ditra.
