i believe this whole notion that Paul is addressing here was already hinted at in Isaiah
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. Isaiah 57:1
most conclusive and compelling exposition ever!! thank you ever so much for this.
still not clear about the 'he' which is taken out. why does it say he and not 'she' in referring to the church?.. please clarify, if you would.. thank you
@mabsootful the use of 'he' in that passage is in accordance with the gender of the definite article "o". in greek as with latin based languages consists in the use of masculine, feminine and neuter nouns and verb phrases and words. in this instance the definite article "o" is used alone without reference to a corresponding noun which gives the meaning of the word to be: (the, this, that, one, he, she, it):
@mabsootful further the use of the masculine form of the definite article points the reader to what it is in reference to; which in this instance is to the word verb written in the nominative case-κατεχων (katechon) (which is a masculine verb)-to that one ("o") that is both the source of restraint, that is 'he which withholdeth' even until now. the distinction that our minds make when we think of masculine and feminine is not to be equated with the idea of male or female, but rather a device
..rather a device of language as established in many languages of which Greek is but one example.
what is known in this passage is that there is something-that one-which restrains the Wicked one-the son of perdition; which in the exact transliteration of the Greek indicates that whatever that "one/he" is that at the point after The Departure mentioned in verse 3: "out of midst become". a more smoother rendering in english would state...
that he that withholds even now will cease to be in their midst. (the word cease would be a better clarification of the use of both the word for 'being' and 'out of' that are used in the context of the phrase which is centered on being in the 'midst' of something-that is the world of the son of perdition. everytime i read this passage, i cannot help but think of the story of Noah entering the ark or of Lot coming out of Sodom. for in both instances, as with this passage
we see similar experiences where the judgments of the Lord didn't commence until his people upon whom his grace and mercy was given, were carefully shielded and/or removed from the place ordained for destruction. similar parallels can also be found in the deliverance of Israel from Egypt during the days of Moses.
for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
Mid-Trib at best.
The angel Michael is taken out of the way.
The church is always referred to as "her" not a "him" or "he". Our God is the God of Israel. WE are grafted into THEM. Learn the Feasts of the Lord.
(1) there are definately more than three views as to who/what the restrainer is. according to certain commentaries I've seen (People's N.T., John Wesley, Jamieson-Fausset-Brown, Matthew Henry, etc.), the restrainer is the Roman Empire. The mistranslations in this passage reflect their interpretation. (2) McClarty's misrepresenting those that don't believe that 'apostasia' means the rapture again. NO ONE thinks the falling away of the Church is what restrains the man of lawlessness.
apostasia seems to be consecarated as a falling away from the truth and from God, LXXE is English translation of LXX, if apsotasia is rapture it would not have created so many debates.
Hello jpmckown. Since I'm "this guy," I suppose I should reply to your comments. The word you attempted to spell is "eisegesis," which I did not engage in. I was arguing for consistent translation, not personal interpretation. And not "all the translators agreed" concerning the proper translation of "apostasia." In fact, even the Geneva Bible (which you reference) renders it "departure."
The World English Bible, the Hebrew Names Version, and Kenneth Wuest's Word Studies in Greek, as well as his expanded translation of the New Testament, all render it "departure," which is the consistently accurate translation. So, it's not as cut-and-dry as you would have us believe.
Also, my students always question me. I require it. If I cannot support anything I say from Scripture, I adjure them to point it out. Continued ...
That page is the brightest page, in which most of Christ is found. That sermon is the brightest sermon, in which most of Christ is heard. That life is the brightest life, in which most of Christ is seen.....
Without Christ, religion is a sunless firmament; life is a dreary passage to a dreadful end; the home is no abode of peace; and prosperity is an adverse flood. Without Christ, birth is no boon, life is no gain, and death is a downfall into an infathomable abyss. Can I know this and not beseech men to make Christ their all?
Rebellion, Falling away, apostasy.. Are all the same. All the translators agreed that there was a departure from the faith. This guy is out of whack. This is called isogesis. "The apostle foretelleth that before the coming of the Lord, there shall be a throne set up clean contrary to Christ glory, wherein that wicked man shall sit, and transfer all things that appertain to God, to himself, and many shall fall away from God to him." 1599 Geneva study bible.
Even this Guys students are questioning him because his teaching has many holes. We know that the "HE" in verse 7 is not the church. The he is the Holy spirit.. And we know that the Holy Spirit is not exclusive to the Church. John16:8-11 The Holy Spirit convicts the world. So when the Holy Spirit is removed the antichrist will be revealed, and the Lord will destroy him by the "splendor" or "brightness" of the Lords return... So the antichrist will do all his damage BEFORE Jesus returns.
It's because men glory in how smart they think they are. It's arrogance and pride. Believe and follow Christ. Everything else will burn in an everlasting fire.
You can never have freedom until you let go of religious and/or superstitious beliefs. Both chain you to ignorance, delusion and deceit.

Joshua 22:22 (LXXE) ... if we have transgressed before the Lord by apostasy, let him not deliver us this day.
2 Chronicles 29:19 (LXXE) and all the vessels which king Achaz polluted in his reign, in his apostasy
Jeremiah 2:19 (LXXE) Thine apostasy shall correct thee, and thy wickedness shall reprove thee
apostasia seems to be consecarated as a falling away from the truth and from God, LXXE is English translation of LXX, if apsotasia is rapture it would not have created so many debates.

Do not get upset when I warn men of a religion that is full of debate, contention and deceit. Eternity is long and life is short. Christ is Life.
