Although best read with a teacher in order to benefit fully, I still found myself astonished at how simply this saintly man has explained what seem like the most complicated questions of the heart.

After reading it you will realize that without the sufis there is no real fard salat (prayer) being performed on Earth. The salat isn't motions, nor is just feeling nice five times a day. With a pure heart, it is when you actually see your Creator.

I know this particular community well. I am not going to get in a debate with anyone about anything here, but I did want to say that this is a community in the US. The shaykh and about 1/4 of the people are Turkish, the rest are mostly recent American converts. The shaykh is a hafiz-Qur'an, mashallah. He has brought several hundred Americans to tawhid. He uses a very gradual approach, and some left him because he is not very strict. But many became shari'a observant Muslims because of him
I'd also like to add that, whether you think his very gradual and slow approach to sharia is correct or not, it worked for me. I took shahada after spending 3 months with their community. He taught me to do salat. Are they a very "mainstream" Muslim group? Well, not exactly. But they are definitely good people, mashallah. And 10 years later, I'm a Muslim, elhamdullillah. Of course his style is a little, shall we say, irregular. But he taught me to love Allah and the Prophet (saws). Salaams. Hu
You are right, Quran is Hakeem. It means diplomatically and gradually one has to inform the people and bring to the folds of Islam. It is a practice of real Mubaligh - to adjust to the custom and culture without disturbing the core Islam. Diplomacy is one of the important tool in propogation of Islam all the time. No sword was used - it is a duty of Muslim to invite others to the right path maybe means might differ.

I know these people, and they are Muslim. (though obviously not very Shari'ah-observant). If you want to call it bida', fine. Any and every muslim should learn Imam Al-Ghazali's Ihya. It contains practical information on Sufism that is essential for any muslim who is serious about saving their soul. If you can read arabic, it's written in the simplest arabic. If you can't, then there are some good translations about. Although best read with a teacher in order to benefit fully, I still found myself astonished at how simply this saintly man has explained what seem like the most complicated questions of the heart.

Anticipating a misunderstanding, when I wrote "see" your Creator it is with the faculty of your heart (the spiritual one, not the lump of flesh). There is no direct vision of Allah ta'ala in this world save for the Prophet may Allah give him peace and bless him. But it is a vision nevertheless. And if you don't believe me, roll up your sleeves and polish that heart. The higher levels of spiritual knowledge should only be tread with a teacher though, otherwise disaster will almost always result.

This is clearly not sufism or sufi dancing. If you want know what sufis are made of order the book "Principles of Sufism" by Barbara von Schlegell which is the most faithful translation of Al-Qushayri's seminal work "The Risala". After reading it you will realize that without the sufis there is no real fard salat (prayer) being performed on Earth. The salat isn't motions, nor is just feeling nice five times a day. With a pure heart, it is when you actually see your Creator.

This is not set up, it's a way of maditation in Sufi Muslims, other groups in Muslims like Sunni, Shiat and Wahabis don't practice Islam this way but Sufi Muslims practice this way and Music is big part of it. And for Sufi Muslims it's not a problem at all if some NonMuslims take part in it. It's nice and there is no way that Quran or Hadith rejects it. May Allah bless all of you.

I know this particular community well. I am not going to get in a debate with anyone about anything here, but I did want to say that this is a community in the US. The shaykh and about 1/4 of the people are Turkish, the rest are mostly recent American converts. The shaykh is a hafiz-Qur'an, mashallah. He has brought several hundred Americans to tawhid. He uses a very gradual approach, and some left him because he is not very strict. But many became shari'a observant Muslims because of him

I'd also like to add that, whether you think his very gradual and slow approach to sharia is correct or not, it worked for me. I took shahada after spending 3 months with their community. He taught me to do salat. Are they a very "mainstream" Muslim group? Well, not exactly. But they are definitely good people, mashallah. And 10 years later, I'm a Muslim, elhamdullillah. Of course his style is a little, shall we say, irregular. But he taught me to love Allah and the Prophet (saws). Salaams. Hu

You are right, Quran is Hakeem. It means diplomatically and gradually one has to inform the people and bring to the folds of Islam. It is a practice of real Mubaligh - to adjust to the custom and culture without disturbing the core Islam. Diplomacy is one of the important tool in propogation of Islam all the time. No sword was used - it is a duty of Muslim to invite others to the right path maybe means might differ.

we should be careful when quoting the Prophet salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam even when we hear it from a person of knowledge. The part of it that says "even to China" has been deemed weak.
Volume 1, Book 3, Number 110:
Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "... & whoever tells a lie against me (intentionally), then (surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-fire."
For the record whether or not one does it intentionally is a topic of disagreement among the scholars.

Sufism is within the Islamic context. Though there are some out there that are goofy-sufi, like maybe this one. But study the big scholars that we have in Islam including the madzhab and their relationship with tassawuf.
