I know Contra is hard, but dude, easy is well... easy to beat! I have not played this specific Contra YET, but it can't be THAT much harder than other Contra games.

I can beat Contra 4 on hard. It's pretty tough, but I've done it scores of times.

However, I can beat the original NES Contra only with the code! I've never beat it without it....

NES contra is much more difficult than this for sure. And Contra 3 HARD MODE on the SNES is even more difficult. There's no way I could ever beat Contra 3, seriously. I mean, if you are ever in a prison cell serving life, then a SNES and Contra 3 it is, for the challenge

I beat Contra 1 in single player without losing a life. But I played like thousands of times. I guess I can beat Contra 4. This looks really nice though.

When you have the machine gun, you don't need to press fire multiple times. Hold down the fire button.

I can beat the original Contra without the Konami code and probably even without using any continues... I also beat Super C - but I used the code there... Im getting a DS for Christmas and this is the first game I want for it... Do you think I'll beat Contra 4 aswell??

I was planning on buying this even though it is punishingly hard. Thank you for the information. It was very cool to see gameplay and that boss fight. One tip I have, just keep working at it. What usually happens to me is a stroke of luck. Anyway great vidoe. 5 stars.

when you get the game .. Use the cheat code that lets you have 30 lives in the game. That helps out alot!

The code does not give you 30 lives in Contra 4. It gives you max powered up weapons. There is no 30 live code.

I haven't read the comments for any of your other videos, so forgive me if this has been mentioned already, but when you speak you sound very much like Quentin Tarintino. It isn't so much the tone of your voice, but your speech pattern. Eerily similar.

Anyway... nice video. Earlier tonight I finally got around to ordering a copy of this game after mulling it over for more than a year. I've been a Contra fan since the original, so hopefully I'll be able to hold my own. Doubt it though. :)

yeah man i could beat contra 1 with one life but i had trouble getting used to the grapple hook thing and the faster environment. I dont think i beat the first level on my first try but it was a blast!

and now "its time for BIIIIIIIIIG (hint)" look up the 99 lives glitch and against level 2 boss: use the machine gun. the DOUBLE machine gun. also level 3's a joke. use homing missiles and duck, a LOT! also: L2 sniper glitch:  take out guy on right and duck facing center screen. that keeps you out of all 3 lines of fire. take cheap shots at snipers with homing until they die. and dont roll with laughter so hard u let go of the down button. :P

Yes, this game is hard, but not THAT hard. And it's hard in a good way, because the difficulty does not come from crappy controls / poor gameplay or whatever. "If you want something easy, go buy Nintendogs... it has dogs." :) Nice review anyway!

The first day I got this I could barely get to tpast level 2. The next day I completede it on easy. That pretty much sums this game up. It's very rewarding, once you get used to how it plays you start going places. How far you go depends on yourself, because the controls are perfect, the blindspot is hardly an issue in my opinion. As for Nintendogs...O_o' lol.

Anyone who wants to play this game an has a wii, download the Nintendo channel if you haven't already, and start it. hit go to videos list, then hit Find Titles for Me, then go to DS download station, turn on your DS and go to DS Download play, on the wii, scroll down until you see Contra 4, then click on it. The game demo will be downloaded to your DS. It is on Normal Difficulty, and you can play it until you turn off your DS (but to play something else, you MUST turn off the DS.

beating easy takes about 5 hours of practice. beating normal requires like 50 hours of practice or the 99 lives glitch. as for hard, i never beat it, i need about 150 or 200 lives, at least. the challenges take about half an hour apiece, but they really fill you with doubt.

The thing I find is that you can go for ages without losing a life, but as soon as you lose one of on hard it sort of snowballs on you, and before you realise it, you've lost 15 lives in the space of a few minutes. It's pretty tough, but it's so so addictive I cant help but come back for more ^_^

You can get to level 4 with the 99 lives glitch, I know because I managed to so myself. You just have to be carefull with your lives, because I lost the remaining 10 lives fighting the boss on level 4.

This is how to get 99 lives

1. Ok first of all on stage 1, get to at least the middle boss and die and lose a continue "Yes die!".

2. You will then restart in the middle of the stage.

3. Perform The konami code. ( Start ( Up - Up - Down - Down - Left - Right - Left - Right - B - A) Start )

4. Kill the middle boss. (Thanks Goldenafternoons)

5. Get to the stage boss.

6. Kill the sniper on top.

7. Shoot the red center 49 times with your pea shooter.

I noticed that once you picked up the power-up weapons, you seemed to acquire the more powerful versions right away (Normally you'd have to pick the weapon up twice in the same slot)... Is that from playing easy mode or is that from using an Action Replay to play this?

The Contra games always were meant for two players, perhaps that's why they are so impossible without cheats of some sort :) Has anyone played Contra 4 multiplayer? Is it nice? What would really be nice is being able to separate from your teammate because you both aren't constricted to one television screen like the older games.

Umm if you couldn't get passed lvl 2 on normal I have to say you aren't very good at this game ^^, I got this game a while back and it's great. I couldn't help but notice you didn't mention that you can get Contra 1 and 2 as bonuses. Did you just not know? Anyway, this is a must buy (but has no single card multiplayer T-T)

Great review as always Josh , i own this game too , its insanely hard but as ive played games since the early 1980's i can cope better than the wimpy youngsters of today who rely on Quicksaves etc to get them through there latest games. Commando , 1942, Manic Miner, Contra, these where games for REAL MEN !

No offense but easy mode is really not that hard. I am NOT a hardcore gamer and it took me around 10 times to beat it. You will see, once you know what to expect and develop strategies for the stages/bosses, it gets pretty easy. I strongly recommend that you beat the game and review it again.

Otherwise I recommend you do the 99 life glitch. Just search for (contra 4 glitch) on youtube.
