  • Sorry Orr, Bourque, O'Reilly, Cashman, etc. etc. #16 Ricky Middleton is my favorite Bruin of all time. Love ya Nifty!

  • nifty sure lived up to his nickname. scored the prettiest goal i ever saw live in the saddledome in calgary.

  • Look at 1:17 When the Quebec defensemen slashes him In today's NHL that would be called as a major penalty.

When we played back in the late 70's and early 80's that was nothing. The currect NHL needs to have the players on the ice police themselves

  • Anyone who wants to help local rescue leagues (boston area) can bid on a dinner for four with Terry O'Reilly and Rick Middleton. I understand that there is a certain amount of signed memorabilia included with the dinner package as well. Anyone interested can message me: { conor AT mdc DOT net } for auction info and link. Thanks

  • Middleton come's up just a little short on a HoF career . He did not get 500 goal's , crack a 1000 point's or get a Cup ring . I have nothing against him , he is one of my favorite's as well . The stat's is what is keeping him out .

  • Rick is definitely one of the best players to never win a stanley cup and also just a tad short of being a HOF. Nifty just missed 100 points, and when you consider that there are now players with well over 1,000 points (Nicholls, Larmer, Turgeon, Housely) who are not in and won't get in it doesn't bode well for Rick, but it should be pointed out that in the case of Nicholls and Turgeon, they had 1 or 2 explosive seasons 6 then tapered off. Rick was more consistent.

  • A reminder of the great player he was. Thanks for posting this.

  • One of my favorite all time Bruins! If I had one word other than "Nifty" to describe his play it would be "SMOOTH"!

Great highlight! I was trecking thru some old fight vids some guys & I were talking about today(yesterday now) as there was a lot of hockey talk after the B's won the EC Championship Friday night! Somehow one thing led to the other & I found myself looking up why "nifty" wasn't in the HOF! Bullshit that Clark Gillies is in & Ricky Middleton isn't! He truly was a great player!

  • I wish the Ranger never traded him to the Bruins. He was my favorite player. But he looks good in the Bruin uniform and I love to watch his unique way of manuevering. Only players that remind me of his style would be Val Kamensky now retired and Alex Semin.

  • When you look at what Rick turned out to be the trade seems beyond lopsided. Middleton for Hodge. They figured he would team up again well with Espo. Nifty was 23 and Hodge was 31. Had Hodge produced for New York the same way he had in Boston the trade would've been a draw. But in the end it turned out to be a young & emerging player for an older player who's production was diminshing. Maybe they thought Nifty was soft. Easily one of the worst trades the Rangers have ever made

  • Nice video

    Good sound and lyrics

I really got undressed on that one @0.50

    Brought back some bad memories

    Thanks for posting

  • He made a lot of goalies look bad.

  • Thanks for sharing. Rick Middleton is one of the most under-appreciated and under-recognized players in the NHL, and that is so unfortunate. He was a terrific player and is great guy!

What Chris Nilan did to Rick in October 1985 -- intentionally butt-ending him in the face, was just despicable. It's okay, though ... at the end of the day Rick was 100 times the player and is 1,000,000 times the man Chris Nilan could ever hope to be.

  • CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW RMIDDLETON IS NOT IN THE

    HOF

CLARK GILLES HAS SOMETHING LIKE 300 GOALS AND RM

    HAS CLOSE TO 500

    UNBELIEVABLE

  • Don't know why they don't retire his # 16!!! did guy did everything for this team ! All stars played for team canada!!

  • I was sitting in the first row of the balcony at the old Boston Garden the game he put on the cowboy hat. Middleton scored a hat trick and hats poured out of the stands onto the ice. There was this guy sitting near the Bruins bench wearing the cowboy hat and the crowd started getting after him to toss it onto the ice. He didn't want to because obviously it was more expensive than some baseball cap, but finally he did and someone brought it over to the bench and Nifty put it on-what a memory.

  • one of the most exciting players-ever!

  • I know when I played back in the 70's and early 80's That mostly all the goalies stood up. So when you cam in on them and moved them from right to left You good just slid the puck across the ice and beat them while there leg was moving.

Now in today's game in the NHL ALL the goalies have that butterfly style. Where they take the lower portion of the ice away from you.

Still a very good goal scorer and he was a pleasure to play against.

  • @goalscr12 I agree with you 100% Goal. The real goal scorers of our age wouldn't have been less efective playing today-they would have just rifled it in the top corners or undress some of these goalies who come out so far to challenge the shooter. You think Bossy couldn't get it pass Miller? Nifty was a great player of his generation and was exciting to watch play. I think he belongs in the hall-He was one of the best of his era and did it with style and class.

  • I believe this is the exact same montage that was featured on a TV show in the 80's here in Southern Ontario called Don Cherry's Grapevine. Don would show what he called his "Blue Movies" (Blue-named for his dog) and I distinctly remember this mix. I have it on VHS somewhere.

  • Tricky rickey should be in the HHOF. He had great hands and was one of the worst trades that the NY Rangers ever made. If you notice on the video when he shoots he is lookng down most of the time, but he was a natural pure goal scorer. He knew where the net was and where the goalie was at all times.

A great player and great guy off the ice.

  • How is he not in Hall of Fame...he scored 400 spectacular goals

  • Middelton is one of the NHL greats. I hope that I see him go into the HOF in my lifetime. I can't think of another NHL'er more worthy. My first NHL game, I saw Boston vs Quebec in 1986 and had the privilege of watching such talents as Middelton, Goulet, and the Stasney brothers. #16 was shaking, baking and shooting the puck. Great player, deserves HOF.

  • What a pair of hands...no one today can dangle like #16 could. He always had one extra move left in the tank.

  • my favorite all-time player, god i wished he had won a stanley cup.

  • Thanks for uploading. If I had to teach aliens on a far distant planet about how NHL hockey should be, I'd want this video as an aid. With the silly helmets and shields, oversized equipment, and loud sound effects, today's NHL is so depersonalized and stupid.

I miss guys like Middleton, McNab, Cashman, Park, Foster, etc.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! One of the most underrated players in league history!

  • Middleton was a great player. He deserves induction into the hockey hall of fame. Wonderful player, played the game the way it's supposed to be played.

  • awesome job nifty was one of the most talented players ever to play the game.the goal he kicks the puck up to his stick and scores rocks

  • this guy had the most incredible moves i've ever seen. they did'nt call him NIFTY for nothing. one of the greatest Bruins ever.

  • "Finally someone put something up on Nifty...my second favorite Bruin of all time. Should be in HALL for the memorable goals he scored.

  • #16, my favorite Bruin off all time!

  • yeah nifty!

  • Great footage! I'd love to see some of his moves from the 87-88 Stanley Cup year!
