Every peasant should own one, but for the middle class, the FN-FAL is the logical step up. All the reliability of the AK, but with better accuracy and stopping power. If they're coming for you with AKs, you want to be shooting back with the FN.

I don't know if its has the reliability of an AK. It would be difficult to say an assumption like that without really knowing the mechanics of both rifles. The AK has sufficent accuracy. Man sized targets can be hit consistently to 300m. The 7.62x39 has sufficent power to 300m.

The FN-FAL was used by the Australians in Vietnam with great success. It was used by government soldiers as well as civilians in the Rhodesia-Zimbabwe war, and by both sides in the Falklands war. Soldiers constantly complain about the M16 jamming, but never the AK or the FN.

Actaully the FN FAL is a terrible gun for sandy conditions, I was reading a book about the 6 Day War and the accounts of Irsraeli soldeirs that suffered with both the uzi and FN FAL with their intolerance towards sand.
