I had this thing as a kid and it sucked, big time. Plus it was WAY overpriced. In fact, I would say out of all the Christmas gifts that I ever got from my parents, this is the one they regretted the most (they still talk about it!). For one thing, it takes FOREVER to get it set up, then the marble goes around once or twice and it's pretty cool, but then you spend the rest of your life making small adjustments to it in a futile attempt to get it to work the way it did those first couple times.

I've still got a similar unit. The problem is -- and always was -- that they're very hard to keep tuned up. Every time there's a marble run the weight and forces cause small shifts in the positions of the tracks that add up quickly. So you're constantly needing to adjust all over the place to keep it running smoothly -- or at all.

I had one of these back in the late '80s. I must have got a defective one, because the elevator was extremely weak. One marble was too heavy for it and the elevator kept stopping. I lost interest pretty fast.
