The problem is the extreme strain you're putting on the chassis of the VW. It is a simple unibody construction and all that pressure pulling against the sheet metal chassis can't be good.

Not about power it about Torque this engine has ample Torque to move all vehicles from a rolling start. Just cause it has a small body does not mean to say it has a small engine or output. Check out VW Toureg towing a Boeing 747 that just amazes me every time.

Its not THAT impressive really. The car isnt that small like it has been made out to be, looks like a fairly medium/large sized car, and its a 4x4 type car aswell, with a diesel engine (diesels are all about pulling power hence why lorrys have diesel engines), and is it 4 wheel drive? Try it with a 1.1 or 1.4 metro or something now that would be funny and impressive

Any car can pull a large weight, it's really a safety issue. The idea trailer weight is 85% of the kerbweight of the car, up to 100% is possible BUT only prats tow above 100% of the car kerbweight! I think this guy has just bought his Tiguan and is showing off AND where was his bloody seatbelt? Wonder if the police put any votes on his video?

The Tiguan isn't small, and it is a VW, so they're quite powerful. You should try pulling them with a Daihatsu Charade, that would have been really, really funny!

I wouldn't like to be standing behind that when your class II bumper hitch snaps off, and goes through the windshield of the camper.

But I don't get why this is supposed to be so amazing? Once things get rolling on level ground, what's the big deal? I have a 300 lb. refrigerator in my kitchen, which I can roll around by myself. That doesn't make me Superman.

Its a diesel thats why lots of Torque to get it moving then plain sailing. When I was a Kid my Dad used to have trouble getting his Automatic 7 series up the driveway in the snow he used to use his 7hp ride on lawnmower to pull the car up the drive, it was pretty amazing to see .

Oh, come on. It's extremely easy to push or tow a much heavier rolling weight for a few feet. Every person (150-250lbs) who has pushed a car (2500-3500lbs) knows that. A vehicle's tow rating is based on it, the object towed, and the vehicle occupants surviving the ordeal over time without significant damage. The Tiguan has a tow rating of just 2200lbs, which is okay for this vehicle class, but far from impressive.

Very interesting... the spec says a towing capcity of 2.5 tonne with a tow bar rating of 100kg?? All I want to tow is a pop top caravan!
