In my personal opinion I like parts of this better than the actual ride and parts of the actual ride better than this. I know the reason they did the omnimover vehicles for the ride and I really like how fast the line moves but I like this ride vehicle better. I think that a lot of these parts would just terrify children and the under water above water parts just are a lot better with the way they do it now and the vehicles that they have now

Tech/design wise, I probably would've referred this. But storywise I'm glad with what we got at DCA. Aside from now climax scene at least everything is in an order that makes sense. This version of the ride just mixes up all the scenes from the movie and would've been pretty confusing to follow.

I dunno bout that... I have a ton of rides I love at Disney World and have never been to Disney Land. I can't compare, but everyone has a different opinion. But yes, I agree. I would love it if they could put this up in Disney World in 2013 when they're SUPPOSED to get a Little Mermaid ride. I think I would cry, even being 18. The Little Mermaid was my FAVORITE when I was little. :)

@animegurl208 A. They will, coming out next year. B. It WONT be this version, but the same version that Disneyland Resort got. If you want to see it, its here on youtube. Just look up The Little Mermaid--California Adventure. I rode it sever times but IMO, this one wouldve been better.

the other thing about this concept is that it would be super inefficient. the efficiency with the omnimover system is insanely good. and the line is never long. I like the one they have now because it's super cute and they made the best out of the space they had

In my personal opinion i like the way the made the ride now. Its has some interesting parts that included some computer animation and the fun sensation of 'going under water'.They also followed the story almost completely, scratch the fact that they seemed to have rushed the ending.The robotics are also so good that the characters actually seem real while still remaining in a cartoon form. My personal favorite parts would be Sebastian's 'Under the sea' and Ursula's Poor unfortunate souls' parts.

yeah, but ariel looks freaking creepy throughout the entire ride, especially the first animatronic figure of her, where she looks like andy from toy story...it doesn't help the creepiness that her hair MOVES. I like the style of the older dark rides better.

If this ride would've been built the way this animation shows, it would've required at least 3 times the space that the actual ride has and more money invested, now i see why they toned it down on the technical side. Also i think compared to the real ride, this one is dark, gloomy and although the under the sea sequence is almost identical, Ursula has more presence here than Ariel.

@rozinka93 Well you should of known that this ride was planed when the original movie was being released but they kept trashing it. In 2006 they decided to show the fans the idea of the ride they were planning on doing ages ago. This virtual ride is called "The little mermaid-The ride that almost was". 3 years later Disney announce that they wanted to expand the disney park and the little mermaid ride was going to be apart of the expansion so they made the ride we have now.

@caferreri11 You don't have to worry about it being out of order, because the real ride doesn't even show Ursula getting defeated at all. They just show Ursula turning Ariel into a mermaid, Ariel and Eric in the boat together, and then Ariel and Eric getting married. All in that order with nothing else.

Ursula's huge monster takeover and defeat not being in the ride at all, ugh, so wrong.

I had the opportunity to go on the actual ride last week. As an avid fan of the Little Mermaid since I was a little girl I absolutely LOVED the ride. They definitely changed the concept. The real ride is less dark and creepy but the animatronics are sensational! It's definitely a fun ride, but I'm sure they had to make it kid friendly so this version would have been too creepy. A classic nonetheless. I for one will be riding this as much as I possibly can!

@TheHotpink16 I think the "water surface" is actually mist and fog over a thin glass panel. There's a hole in the glass in the place where the seashell descends "under the sea". As you near it the hole opens up inconspicuously while your eyes are being drawn towards Eric and the Dog on the ship. To make the effect even better they add the sound of you going underwater. That's my guess anyway.

@TheHotpink16 Most likely it would be glass like to where you can see through and there would be an opening where the track can dive down and go "under water." It showed the part where you come up out of the water in the video at like 2:36 and im assuming it would have been sorta like that. But it doesnt really matter cuz the real ride is nothing like this :(

We don't see Ursula get defeated at all in the ride. The ride makes it seem like Ariel and Eric get married after the Kiss The Girl scene and then ~the end~

This digital concept is much better than what the real ride turned out to be.

@lp4ju No. It will be similar, but is actually going to be set up a lot differently. Instead of hanging below the track, it will use the same clams as in EPCOT's Under the Sea with Nemo and Friends. Also, you will "dive" and "ascend" but the showrooms won't be stacked on one another like in this video. And the rooms will be altered as well, since this was just a rough draft. But the biggest difference (apart from the vehicles) is the sets, which will be decked out with constantly moving robots.
