Since your sitting in front of them, is there any difference in basic tone, yeah they will do different things , after the signal gets thru you tube Im not sure, and that my computer speakers arnt much. Thanks
hey man you are so awesome i love all of your videos. you do a great job on demo-ing the pedals, thanks for all the help!! to switch it up maybe create a few videos/tutorials on how to create certain sounds or go about playing certain styles and rules that apply to them, just a thought. peace out!
Hey GMD, your vids keep is all glued to the candy store window. Howsabout doin the rockbox boiling point vs the Tim-my clan. Huge fan of the GMD and those shinny Magic boxeees.
@southtexasanglers i would guess just for the vibe of it. tonally the modern cables are so high quality compared to the vintae cables it shouldnt make a difference
@southtexasanglers i would guess just for the vibe of it. tonally the modern cables are so high quality compared to the vintage cables it shouldnt make a difference
Just got my Tim today... It's mind blowing how awesome it is. This is a great demo of its tone, but you can't really understand how good it is until you feel it. I mean just feel yourself playing it. it's awesome
*like always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, and what sound you're looking for.
I'm doing a bit of amp shopping right now. Checkin' out Divided by 13, Matchless, Bad Cat, etc. I have heard some demos of the Maz 13, and it sounds pretty good.
Obviously you must like yours if you bought it, but do you have any complaints about it? I mostly see country guys with Dr. Z. Is it good for rock/indie, too?
It's always nice to have a smaller pedal, but I prefer the Tim. Timmy is a slight bit muddy and not as natural to the amp's sound. Still a good pedal, though.
Forgive my ignorance, but exactly is the point of having a low gain overdrive like the Tim or Timmy? I mean, the amp could get much more drive like that on it's own, so I don't really see the point in it. Is it only to boost for solos?
you can boost solos. it can give you an extra drive sound on your clean channel. or use it to enhance your main drive tone. it is very flexible & transparent. some guys stack it with other drives. i like what i hear as a stand alone. cochrane made it as an enhancement for an amp's drive tone. the tim is not as low drive as some think. with humbuckers 10k up to say 14k, it drives pretty good. not metal, but more fender/dumble. i use it with a divided by 13 37 amp. 2x12 jbl cab.
And then some people like me use it as an "artificial" overdrive instead of natural tube breakup b/c I never play out anymore and can't crank even a 15 watt amp in an apartment
i've found the timmy to be very close to the MI audio blues pro with its grittier tone. the tim has more flexibility due to the boost. i run my tim as a stand alone drive. for leads i hit the boost, & it drives harder. pull out the drive control in back, & it clips harder. i like it in. a very good drive effect. i agree, the tim dusts the dumble-like pedals out there. cochrane should build this drive into an amp. he was with the heritage amp line--maybe still is.
You are the funniest reviewer hands down...now ONLY if you had the recording equipment of pro guitar shop, that shit's where it is AT! (the recording equipment, that is)
The Tim kicks ass big time. So much better than the lates greatest Dumble in a box type pedals like the zendrive and Jetter Red. The Tim is really transparent. The timmy to me is just a little harsher sounding than the Tim. I was told by Paul C, that is because the pots and caps are so close they pick up interferance from the components being so closely crammed togeather, but he is working on fixing it. It makes perfect sense, the Tim pedal is big and has room for everything unlike the Timmy.
I've watched many many overdrive and distortion pedal review videos and I honestly have to say my opinion, which i derived from hours and hours of reading and listening, is that the hermida zendrive is the best overdrive on the market today. Also the fulltone echoplex is the best delay and malekko makes the best small reverb unit.
Have to agree. I tried 'em all, and have most of 'em. Have both the ss and tube ZenDrives and they are great. Also like the FullDrive (new one actually with the mosfet switch) and the OCD. But Zen is awesome. FT Echoplex is awesome but big. Also like the new Eventide TimeFactor delay pedal and HardWire RV7 reverb.
Thanks again for the shoot out. To my ear the Timmy grabs more of the bass or lower frequency tones and pushed them out more than the Tim. The Tim seemed to push the higher frequency tones out which gave the sound clarity. When you combined the two was really cool. You got the best of both worlds. Not a crappy sound when combined.
nope...its a brand new cable, made by Bullet Cables, and it sounds fantastic! It's huge, and thick, like a Monster Cable..not tiny and cheapo like the oldies...plus, it looks cool?
great video. always wanted to hear what these two sound like. thanks! enjoying all your vids btw...good stuff. these pedals sound great. btw, you're not jack black or christian slater by any chance are you?

i have the same question as I asked on another video: Are the internal dip switches in or out on the timmy, and is the pull-pot on the Tim in or out?

Paul says the slight difference in sound can be attributed to the closer proximity of the components.
Is this just a fancy TS type pedal or is there more to it?
