The process for seeking permission to drill an oil or gas well is relatively straightforward, but takes a bit of effort. After the geologist has spent much time conducting research to locate an area that seems prospective, permission to drill must be secured from the mineral owner(s). There is no guarantee that the drilling operator can secure such leases. Only after the permit is granted can drilling commence.
