  • OMG!!! I just found my next guitar teacher.... "stack of Herbie, McCoy, and Ritchie Beirach records for ten years and didn't come out until you could play it all! ;-)""...I couldnt have said it better..you are flat out bad***!!

  • i love mode @2;00-2;05

  • Dude, No lie, no flattery. You are one of the best pianist on youtube.

  • @danieljones013 Thank you.

  • It sounds like you locked yourself in a room with a piano and a stack of Herbie, McCoy, and Ritchie Beirach records for ten years and didn't come out until you could play it all! ;-)

  • @Modes9 Ha,ha - great comment! Yeah, those are some of my favorite players for sure!

  • Looks like I'm gonna have to subcribe.....That C minor 9, 11 is what took the cake at the beginning...

  • man you are GOOD....i'm going to subscribe and learn!!

  • @robdown I appreciate your comment.

  • Wow. I dunno what I'm hearing in this, but it brings to mind Clare Fischer, and that ain't a bad thing in my book! NICE!!! Working up my own solo of this tune on alto sax, and there is lots here for me to study. THANKS.

  • @deepkeel65 Thanks for your comment.

  • AMAZING!!!

  • @marcobrito90 I appreciate your comment!

  • very great!!

  • oh man If I can reach your skill level before I die I'll be the happiest person to live

  • Thanks much for your comment, I appreciate it.

  • great

  • I appreciate your comment.

  • Hey Roger,

Great video, I just have a quick question. What is the function of the A, E flat, A flat in the first chorus? Some kind of F 7 sharp nine that then goes to an A flat 7 (tritone sub of D)?

Any light you can shed on these chords and their functions are much appreciated.

  • Probably one of your best solos on youtube so far

  • Your comment is appreciated.

  • very good!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey bro

this is my favorite of all your videos. Please do more 6/8 stuff.Take us back to Africa!!!!

  • i love and respect your work bro

  • Thanks for the comment!

  • Perfect!I can smell the footprints! :)

  • Love the voicings! And love the electric piano!! Awesome *****

  • I so much enjoy this most talented musician and what he shares with all of us trying to just learn one more chord. Please don't forget us, we are always looking for more and more.... thank you

  • nothing like ancient African inspired rhythms as a base to explore different tonal possibilities from a dancers/African drummers perspective. Sounds like Charnett Moffet would eat this feel up on bass. Iimagine what a band made of Trane, McCoy, Benson, Woody S, Joe H ,and Elvin would do to this tune. Great inspired playing Roger!

  • Thanks Mark.

  • I love Wayne Shorter, and I really dig your interpretation! Outstanding!

  • To update I just got back from the concert. I even managed to secretly record the whole thing; it was one long sitting from 8:30 till 9:45. No break and essentially one piece with maybe 3 parts.

Was more like free improv within the quartet; not my cup of tea tbh...a bit disappointed, I wanted to hear some of Wayne's classics.

Brian Blade was awesome. Wayne seemed more Miles style, hardly playing much really.

  • Roger, that was a cool rendition.

FYI, my cancer psa is now 0.1 Doctor says that is really really great. Still have prob with urgency and frequency but otherwise I am starting to practice again.

    BruceW

  • Thanks You

  • Bravo

  • Thanks.

  • Merci et bravo pour tant de musique !!!

(mais pourquoi ne pas l'avoir joué en C# ?)

  • Merci beaucoup

  • yeah...

  • Thanks

  • I finally managed to listen to this masterpiece calmly. I love how you make sing the Rhodes in that many rooms. Terrific work.

  • Thanks Alfonso. ;-)

  • Once again, amazing! What would one call this style of jazz? and for that matter, the style of most jazz that you play? I love all of the rhythmic independence of hands and syncopated chords in the left hand, as well as the interesting voicings! I wouldn't even know where to begin learning this kind of playing. Keep it up!! I'm glad to have seen your videos!

  • I watched this video right before bed last night, meaning to come back today and comment. (Then I saw Rob's version of it a moment ago, so I had to go back and re-watch your take to enjoy the contrasting but equally great styles!) Just fantastic stuff, absolutely love it, Roger.

  • Thanks Dan.

  • BRAVO

  • I appreciate the comment.

  • This is just amazing. I play the piano and often try and improvise but these chords are beyond my ability! I am going to study this in detail. PS Wayne Shorter is in the top 10 of greatest living musicians in my book!!

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • I love this master version Roger, great!!! beautiful progression at 0:37!

  • Grazie, Roberto.

  • That seems so nice to me

if you know what you play.

Helas, I know only when it's not false

    and when it is

    Great work as always

  • Oh man...

  • love it man.

  • A superb performance. Great sound, interesting improvisation, and lock solid timing! Wish I could do this. The 6/8 rythym really makes this stand out and makes things want to move.

  • Oooooooo you always bust out my favorite tunes.

    Video response on the way.....

    *****

  • Oh yeah, buddy. ;-)

  • Lots to learn from this great performance - many piano players know a blues in C, but there are so many melodic and harmonic ideas here to study. Looking forward to the annotations.

  • I like the jungle feel to it lol! Excellent work man.

  • Great! I'm going to see Wayne Sorter this Saturday with his quartet =D Glad he's still around, gotta experience this stuff at least once imo.

  • I saw him in Michigan a couple months ago. He's not playing foot prints :) but you wont be disappointed.

  • sounds awesome as always.

    pls keep posting!

  • Very nice indeed! What a way to start a new week :-)

  • wow!

    Damn u good

  • Lovin' it!

  • Man I love your work.
