The Chaser are the ones that are irrelevant. Their cancelled shows cost the ABC a shit load of money and they don’t get that they are not dealing with a bunch of idiots. We know a show based on a false dichotomy is not remotely satirical or intelligent and that there is room in a healthy world for both celebrating and commiserating. The Chaser put the F in fundamentalist attempts at “satire” and I can’t believe I’ve just taken 5 minutes out of my life to respond to them.
@Mitcho4523 wtf?! Who ever said lawyers were intelligent? They are the idiots that got the world into a position where a robber can sue a home owner for hurting their back while stealing their plasma TV...
Sure there are more important things happening in the world but Japan and Libya are far from being ignored. The Japanese Tsunami happened a while ago and the Libyan uprising is still ongoing and no major developments have taken place recently.
@TheGstar1985 who gives a fuck if it happened a while ago, theyre still dealing with it and its still a big problem. you may think no major development has taken place but in truth your precious media feeding you garbage has just decided not to report on it, keep watching Fox for bro.
@TheGstar1985 You don't understand this humor. It's called sarcasm. The Chaser are trying to set the Earth's media priorities straight after every single channel was taken over by this wedding. 5 hours of coverage was given to this insignificant event compared to what is happening in Japan, Libya and Afghanistan. This is what the Chaser was trying to highlight.
@Adirtybird back off, these guys are funny as hell. Sure they can go over the top sometimes, but they really make light of some situations, and make dull, uninteresting ones, like the wedding, funny and entertaining. I think it sucks they were taken off. The governments just upset because they can't do anything back.
It's very easy to be cynical; I'm no royalist but what's wrong with a happy story once in a while to make us all feel a little better? (and proud to be British)
I doubt anyone thinks we shouldn't enjoy happy stories like the wedding.
Still, when it so dominates the media that Will and Kate's wedding mementos, W & K walking down the isle, W & K kissing at their own wedding (gosh, what a surprise), W & K leaving their wedding when it's over, are ALL (not just the highlights) presented as equally important to stuff like the 2nd deadliest tornado outbreak in US history ... well, it's fair to poke fun at that, surely?
Jeez, why are people so ignorant. At times like these where people are troubled it's nice to have an event like this. No one seems to realize is that nationalism is one of the strongest tools to keep a country, and even other powers happy. You wouldn't want to see devastation constantly on the news, sometimes you want to see something happy for once and something that would give you a reason to celebrate. It's like people are saying no one can be happy!
Everybody knows there are horrible things happening in the world but does that mean we need to focus on them entirely? The "news" is predominately filled with tragedy that none of us can change. I think it's great that this is a single positive story being shared around the globe. Half the time the "news" is just highlighting human misery. Do we really need to know that a toddler was runover or that a taxi driver was robbed? What difference does it make knowing how many people died in Japan?
@7wallaby I think you've completely missed the point of this sketch. its not aimed at the couple and its not aimed at war torn or disaster struck areas of the globe. It is merely pointing out the irrelevance and trivial nature of this event and it uses the contrast of serious subjects to do it. whether or not they are in love has little to do with anything, this did not deserve a percentile of the coverage it got.
I got the point ok, a wedding compared to a natural disaster, of course. but obviously the media did not see it the way you did... just maybe, people (like 2 billion of them) want a break from watching sad shit on a friday night for a change??
another one of chaser's exploits , pointing out the bloody obvious, maybe we should act downtrodden and miserable and not celebrate a young couple's wedding, even though is mostly bullshit any way, but they seem to be in love.. so unless the Chaser is prepared to actively and positively contribute to the rebuilding of broken down countries, instead of just making fun of them, they should just shut the fuck up!!
This is what the Chasers are genius at; it's funny, a little wrong, and has a bit of a message. Comedians that can do all three of those and keep the balance right are top of their field.
Sucked in you maggots, finally some commonsense prevailed in the BBC banning you so called "coverage" of your wedding. You people are spineless imbeciles who can only "dare" to do what you do by the grace of the freedoms you are granted under our constiution....go to Saudi Arabia and try and mock their head of state and see what happens to you...dickheads!
What great parody! And a pretty witty too, once you think about it.
It really makes you think about how even though there are important issues (like the ones shown in the video) going on in the world, people still choose to focus on a wedding that doesn't really matter to anyone. Boy, the world have really got their priorities right! *coughcough*
