  • The way he flips through is kind of mesmerizing...

  • Amazing timing at one point where as he leans forward in the picture a chair creaks somewhere.

  • This video is very helpful learned something new about animation good post.

  • i<3 Mr.Keane-he's my hero! i didnt even know who he was until his niece(one of my best friends) told me about him~:D

  • amazing!! thanks for sharing!!

  • Tangled is brilliant, absolutely! While exiting the cinemas I looked back at the screen and practically yelled "Omg Glen Keane! Legend!" coz I saw him in the credits :D

    Nobody else had a clue..

  • @Unlimited517 ME TOO

  • @Unlimited517 I saw on youtube even before actually seeing Tangled that Glen Keane was the supervising animator for Rapunzel and was beyond excited :) Wasn't sure about it at first (thought it was cute but just another CGI movie, but when I found out Glen was involved I knew it would be good. It was like a return to classic Disney:)

  • Don't be worried, Tangled is a great movie. Worth watching it in the cinemas.

This film holds an overall approval rating of 93%, based on a sample of 28 reviews. (source: Rotten Tomatoes' Top Critics).

Quentin Tarantino named Tangled as one of his top five favorite films of 2010.

  • Tangled is artistically Outstanding!

Nice songs (I See The Light)

    Nice Score by Alan Menken!

    Incredible animation!

    Beautiful backgrounds!

And Glen Keane is Executive Producer! ;)

  • thank u very much for sharing this !!

  • Man I thought this is what my animation class in college would be like. This is what I wanted to learn!

  • @DamianGarcia92 i so feel you're pain .. i so freakin feel your pain. Thing is, you don't get that in animation schools because people who are good enough to animate under a camera are already in studios making amazing things happen .. only way to get them is through master classes...

  • Why does Calarts get every amazing animator to give lectures there? It's not fair, I'm an Academy of Art student and I'd be ecstatic if we were given an opportunity to see a brilliant animator like him work.

  • I wish guys like this would come around to other schools more often to give lectures and lessons. Calarts hogs the goodness.

  • @DanaTerrace LOL. I agree, they even got a lecture by Milt Kahl.

  • @DanaTerrace did you apply to calarts?

  • Where do you get one of those animation papers to draw on?

  • @blackxknight chroma colour

  • He's all like "fuck you get me out of this fuckin chair you asshole"

  • 3d models don't have the same fluidity and stretchiness. Not yet at least.

  • so satisfying to watch, like peeling glue off you fingers as a kid.

  • LONG LIVE Glen Keane and Andreas Deja!

  • I love his drawings, it shows passion and love for art and he inspires me! I admire him so much!

  • His drawing skill is really great ! I admire him

  • thanks moonmystique for your suggestion. I'll try it sometimes. Did not know that you can see the movement by flipping :)

  • So far I had a cartooning class with Diana Coco-Russell, a Disney Clean-up Artist, and then I met Eric Goldberg, a Disney animator and director at a convention, he was selling his book on animation which he wrote.

  • 3:47 - what the hell hahha

  • amazing; I met his assistant :D

my friend went to an animation school and I learned a lot from her: Rough, clean-up, in-between, story board :o) so cool

    I admire Glen very much

  • It is amazing how the drawing looks like a 3 year olds when he starts, but as he progresses it becomes a work of art!

  • thanks for posting it,

  • awsome :) but how does he know where to place the next image ? dont some animators trace the previous image but make changed for movement?

  • thats right, when using a light table ur able to see your previous drawing and are able to trace over the things u want to remain stationary and redraw the things that u want to move and animate, I dont know why his table is not turned on.

  • You should do your keys drawings without the light on. Flipping the paper allows you to see the movement as you draw it.

  • @moonmystique sadly not many people are born with the awesome power to draw their drawings the same relative place each time... i know i'm not, so i kinda cheat.

of course, i really love this guy, my skills can best be described as btard luvchild of ken duncan and norm fergusen. I adore this guys way with muscle and grace. (who the hell wanted him to do John Silver? better yet, WHY ADD THE DAMN FLYWHEEL? makes the animation suffr.

  • @LiimLsan how can you say that? "born" with the awesome power...

  • @moonmystique It's not a light table, it's a document projector.

  • @moonmystique oh wait, maybe it is, but it could just be onion skin paper. But I think you're wrong, there is nothing wrong with drawing key frames with viewing other key frames.

  • Thank you SO much for posting this!! I've just had a personal animaiton lesson with one of the greatest animators there are.

  • He has this amazing confidence with his work .

  • amazing

  • Is Mr. Keane using just soft graphite? It could just be the way I see the video, but the black looks really rich, more like conte?

  • looks like chinagraph pencil to me.

  • i am very much motivated to animate stuff on my own.

i have no formal training or anything, but i want to begin something. can someone tell me what kind of paper he's using, what the name of that desk might be, or any other info? thanks

ps. this video is an awesome sample to an animator's work

  • check out chromacolor website - they do all the different field sizes of paper, light boxes, peg bars, colorase pencils etc.

-Check out FAVELADOS, one of the latest grad films from the AIB!

  • you dont need any special paper if youre starting from square one - grab some post it notes and try a bouncing ball

  • Utubeblows has an excellent point, you must start with the basics before you can learn this, and use fancy equipment. Also take a life drawing course, and study the drawing of the figure in motion, it's an essential to grasp realism in form. I think it's really cool you're interested in hand drawn animation, as a 2-d animation student I'm happy to see people still curious about this art form. Finally if you ever decide to take a course, you will start by learning in-betweening and timing!.Cheers

  • If you want to make it big in the buisness try applying for film school but I warn you it is tough you must have a valid reason for you're choice!

  • Its an excelent example of animation ,please anymore videos.

  • Any more videos to post...this was fantastic!

    Thanks RODAN

  • I seem to remember that he did this as a demo at CalArts a couple of years ago. Any idea?

  • This is amazing, thanks for posting it! I felt bad when he mentioned "pushing his head forwards" referring to the character, just as his own head kept coming forward onto the screen. lol.

  • Outside of the students laughing too often & their sound level, it's awesome.

  • Great stuff.
