Lol! You have a great sense of humor. Just remember that protein treatments can be a little drying too, so it's good to use conditioner still. *high five* back!
Ok just put in my mayonaise and egg lol hope all goes well. Can give us some more home made hair treatments.I dnt normally use conditioner bcas my locks are kinda young so i dnt want to detangle them too much.is this an accurate statement Im makin?
That's correct. Using conditioner on baby locs will soften them even more or possibly unravel them, so you're on the right track. If I have more home made hair treatments then i'll be sure to let you know. Let me know how the E/M treatment works out for you. :-)
I have read that you can do a protein treatment no more than once a month, only because too much protein can cause dryness, especially if it is not followed by the use of a moisturizer or conditioner. I believe you can do a baking soda rinse anytime, but remember that a rinse is drying too and a moisturizer should be used afterwards. Using both treatments in one day is possible, but just make sure that you condition/moisturize your hair very well.
Any conditioner is fine. You can use shampoo to wash your hair, but not in place of conditioner after a protein treatment. Like I mentioned before, our hair needs a moisturizer after a protein treatment.
Well, protein treatments are drying, so conditioner is used to restore the moisture that is lost. Shampoo will make the hair even more dry after using this treatment.
I didn't see any buildup. I normally read the label to make sure that it doesn't have extra unnecessary ingredients. If it does then I avoid those bottles and try to use the pure ingredients of mayo. Did you use other products or anything else that might have contributed to the buildup?
Hi marikachica. Did you conditioner/moisturize your hair after? Any protein treatment can be drying, so that's why it's recommend that we conditioner our hair afterwards in order to minimize any signs of brittleness. Moisturizing our hair helps too.
Actually, it's a protein treatment (too much of it can cause dryness), so it's best to still moisturize your hair just to be safe and that's why i'll use conditioner to not only mask the eggy smell but condition my locs.
Thank you for the compliment. Mayonnaise alone is just fine because it's made from eggs, so it's the same thing. I've used only mayo on my hair and had the same results without the egg smell, so you're all right. ;-)
That's okay, you don't need dreadlocks to do this. Just as long as you have hair that's all that matters, but be sure to rinse it out with cold water or else you'll end up with scrambled eggs in your hair. :-)
Great question. I use this treatment after I shampoo my hair because I want to remove any residue and make sure that my hair is clean in order for the protein to work effectively on each strand.
I've done this on occasion. It adds strength to your hair. Using just the egg white will minimize odor issues and decrease the likelihood of egg gunk. Word from the wise (my mother). In order to do this, puncture a medium sized hole in the egg at the tip (with a knife). Hold the egg upside down and the white will fall out, leaving the yolk inside. The protein treatment is just as effective.
Actually, some people have complained about having "egg bits" left in their hair after rinsing with luke warm water. Just to be safe, they recommend rinsing with cold water. You'll never know unless you try it.
This only happens when your rinse your hair with cold water and I found that if you use more mayo then egg (even though it's the same thing) then it smells less eggy. I also use a scented conditioner to mask the smell so I haven't had a problem with egg gunk or bad smells. I've been doing this for a while and haven't had a problem yet after doing some research and talking to other loc'd people on another site. :-)

Niccce!! Good info!! I should do that! And it's something that anyone can do! I think if anyone wants to comb out their locks, this would be good too becase you said ur hair is better after this treatment?
"-Rinse w/ COLD water (to avoid scrambled eggs in your hair)" OR you could utilize this fact and have breakfast after your hair treatment. XD
Thanks for this video. My bf has the driest hair in the universe and this is definitely what I was looking for to try to fix his mane. *high five!*

How often should you do this and can you do an account/baking soda rinse the same day or within the same week to remove buildup?

I used a store bought mayonnaise solution and noticed a buildup when I washed 2 weeks later. Did you notice any buildup with your method?

Of course! It works on all hair types from what I understand. :-)

Well, in some parts of the world it's a standard hair care regimen, regardless of your hair type. :-)

can u still do it if u already conditioned your hair? and when your hair is wet ???
MsStarlite10 8 months ago
Yes you can. I prefer to do it after I shampoo my hair while it's still wet or sometimes if my hair is slightly damp.
DynamicRunner 8 months ago
Do you put it on before deep conditiong or shampooing?

is your hair supposed to be wet or dry when you apply the mayo and egg to it?
zaboomafoo121 10 months ago
Either way is fine. I prefer to apply it on my hair when it's dry just because when it's wet then the mixture begins to drip more.
DynamicRunner 10 months ago
It wouldn't scrambe the eggs if you washed your hair in warm water. Eggs coagulate ( cook ) at 72 degrees C. Duhh.

Too much protein can dry out your hair. Too much of anything isn't good for us anyway. ;-)

Does it take more rinsing and what about the smell?
evealexsis 1 year ago
I make sure to rinse a little longer to wash out the mix, and I use a fragrant conditioner to mask the egg smell afterward.

how to remove lint from the locs?
Divinity321 1 year ago
I read about people using an apple-cider-vinegar rinse, but I have yet to try it. I just use a black sharpie marker to cover up any visible lint.
DynamicRunner 1 year ago
You used (food) mayo for the treatment or mayo made for hair?
paperorpaper 1 year ago
I use the mayo bought at the supermarket for food because it's made of egg yolk and it's all natural.
DynamicRunner 1 year ago
@DynamicRunner Ok, so, I shouldn't use Hellmann's
paperorpaper 1 year ago
The brand doesn't matter just as long as you use mayo. It's the same kind used in food.
