  • in the area that night, which could have been used by Morris and the other escapees. However, while confirming these facts, which were hidden from the officials for quite some time, the findings of further investigations remain inconclusive. As a result, the U.S. Marshall’s office is still investigating this case, which will remain open on all three escapees until their 100th birthday

  • Frank Morris and the 1962 escape were examined in a 2011 National Geographic Channel program entitled "Vanished from Alcatraz". According to the newly uncovered official records discussed on the program, a raft was discovered on Angel Island with footprints leading away. Furthermore, there was also a report of a stolen car

  • not nice!!!!!!

  • The spoon proves to be mightier then the bars!!!!! Love that line.

  • Oh please, if one of those guys were alive they would clemency from the US because everyone would want to hear their story. They didn't make it out of the water.

  • that's my grandpa and they didn't find them well grate grandpa

  • I love visiting here! I hope they made it

  • Empty postcard from unknown place in Brazil was allegedly sent to warden, few years later.

  • @Ondrus21 That's just a myth. It never happened. I work there and have talked to just about everyone "in the know."

  • @zazozung I don't know, it's very old story. Either way, I believe they got alive from the island.

  • @Ondrus21 It would be nice if they made it. And I know a federal marshall who studies the case. He claims to have evidence that Morris was alive and well, living in Los Angeles in the 1970s. I find that nearly imposssible to believe. But my opinion is just that, an opinion.

  • @zazozung Well, if I escaped, I would move out to abroad because of possible disclosure risk. If he stayed in California, someone must have recognize him. Recently after the escape must have been put up some notices with reward everywhere, I suppose.

Where exactly do you work there?

  • @zazozung no it happen my dads dad talk to him be for they got out and hid

  • A year after their escape John Paul Scott was able to just swim away from the island but got a hypothermia after reaching the shore. The three had an improvised life vests and a raft which was replicated in the myth busters and they were able to get to shore in just 45 minutes. There's a great chance that those three escaped alive.

  • watch the film *escape from alcatraz* is based on this real story!

  • yea prison break :)

  • They made it, i lknew one of 'em

  • @Mr12stringbass are you really old? lol

  • @Mr12stringbass sure you did

  • @NoVaTutz

Believe it or not. but i know what happend.

  • if they succeeded to escape from this hell, they deserved to be free whether they are good or not

  • Alcatraz

  • i think the anglin brothers drowned and frank morris survived the sea crawl ashore and disappeared and had a good life..frank morris was to smart to let himself drowned!!...he all figured it out!

  • im related to the anglin brothers

  • @damienanglin ARE THEY ALIVE? lol

  • 50 dollars for information hell na!

  • @OMARBIGOGTL yeah but 50 bucks back then was like 5000 today they solde cars like for 50 or 100 now they cost thousands

  • 50 dollar reward. Man you better suck my dick.

  • No one should be kept in a place like that. even criminals

  • what was the distance between the island and the shore ?

  • @match20045 It is something along the lines of 2 miles.

  • everyone forgets that no matter what you do in this earth we all still equal look at the state they steal from everyone in the word but no one likes to talk about that or even bring the topic up but a man escapes from jail they are the worse ever ya all straight up stupid

  • im sure they made it

  • I think they made it. because there is two men name john paul scott and darl parker escape in 1962 after the three inmate escape. John paul scott made it to the land of San francisco and sadly there was a teenager and call a police like that and then john was not sucessful to escape. It is proven that the reaching the shore by swimming.

  • they excaped on my birthday o-o thats cool and creepy

  • I feel Allen West really got screwed.. In his testimony he claimed that the couldn't get out of his cell, because earlier he dug his hole to big, so his cardboard grill cover would slip out, so he said Clarence added cement from the outside, which accidently ended up sealing him in. West said on the night of the escape, Morris told him that he would go up and get to Anglins to assist getting him out. That was the last time West ever saw Morris. I truly believe West was the mastermind.

  • Who cares if they raped or murdered someone, escaping Alcatraz is totally bad ass and makes for all the shit they did.

  • Frank Morris has an IQ of 133 and i emphasize '''HAS'' because he is probably still ALIVE somewhere today.

  • does anyone know how to get the rights to use this clip in a doc, or if its in public domain? thanks

  • This story has interested since i saw the movie when i was a kid. Whether they actually made it to land doesn't matter. The truth is even if they died they were free since they escaped the prison undetected. At least they died from their own doing and away from the prison. I think they knew they had a slim chance of surviving I think they wanted to just at least get out of the prison

  • If they are alive they should step forward and send like a tape to us goverment to show em. but ehn again , the goverment would just throw away the tape and pretent like it didnt happen

  • lol

  • no way they made it. i've been there and the water currents are too strong. plus the water is freezing cold during the summer. if they did make it they would've had to have help from the outside.

  • @stackleft Do you think a boat picked them up in the water or at angel iland..?? other inmates could of help them with this when familys came to visit..!! In return for cash..!

  • Also..Ted Cole and Ralph Roe's escape was they broke out of the model industries building and had 10 gallon bins to float and they got lost in the heavy fog and were never seen again. Some guards had seen them run to the waters edge but lost them in the fog as opposed to the Morris-Anglin brothers escape which took 7 months of preparation, they built a raft and dummy heads, they climbed to the top of the cellhouse. it was more planned but Roe, Cole, Morris and the Anglins are all missing

  • I think they made it b/c they were prepared, but then again it was said a man commited suicide into the SF Bay in front of many witnesses and his body wasn't recovered. So there bodies could have deteriorated or sharks got them (which I personally don't think happened). I wish I knew what happened

  • @GAMER0995 Do you think a boat picked them up in the water..?? or at angel iland..?? My be a inmate sorted outside help from there own family in return for cash.?? bits of the raft turned up days after but no bodys..!!

  • @c6gav that's cause they got hypo and swept out to the ocean. very unlikely someone helped them but it's possible.

  • @stackleft Think about it!even if alcatraz guards were listening to inmates famliys spking on internal phone lines if you spk in code! I went fishing last week! on tuesday!!nice veiw of angel island! with a boat!that was frank morris and the anglin bros code into go! I also think the guards ad be come complacent! to brake outs! they were so sure it was 100%strong to brake outs the inmates ad give up! they droped of the face of the world they knew they could never stay in the US!

  • what was the wardens name at the time of 1962 ?

  • they died in the water i think

  • what year?

  • These Guys are legends - not for their Criminal activities - but for the Escape from Alcatraz

  • @SuperMischaa tacno tako. sjebali su ih sve. bravo momci

  • thei went through such a trouble trying to escape, that despite of their crimes, I think they deserved freedom.

  • the anglins escaped. there relatives said they got a postcard in south america from them years after the escape.

  • I think morris did not make it but the anglins did. Ive watched a lot of documentaries about this escape, all are bias. Some clearly make it appear as if they made it and others make it seem that they did not.

  • I wanna see a remake of the movie! Those 3 are geniuses, as for the police theyre just stupid.

  • @mrputanginamo1 Oh believe me you don't want a remake with the garbage hollywood is putting out today.they''ll just f""k it up ...s""t i could see it now Will Smith as Frank Morris and LL.Cool J as John Anglin and Ludacris as Clarence Anglin...Don Siegal would turn over in his grave.....NO REMAKE

  • just watched the film, its awsome

  • If you think the sharks had ate them WHOLE.

I THINK you're wrong. They escaped BEFORE the sharks started to go into San Fransico.

  • super!

  • this is great!

    ive been in alcatraz

and ive seen the dummys aswell

    good video :)

  • they made it

  • frank morris is my idol now wow his smart as hell....

  • well if they were bank robbers, maybe / maybe not but a gaurd/s may have helped the escape to make a little side fundage....you know, for the kids!

  • Well it is possible they made it because i watched mythbusters and they did the same trip and made it. The water is shark infested but they wasnt man eating sharks. Also There is many rumours that they drowned and there bodys was found but couldnt be identifyed because of there faces being mashed up but was wearing the alkatraz uniform. So i rekon as they had such a iq they could of killed the boatmen and smashed there faces in and then changed clothes and thrown them over board or somthing.

  • Proven on Mythbusters doesn't automatically mean proven for real. Mythbusters do some sketchy iffy experiments, honestly.

  • According to my great uncle Bill from Ardmore OK, he said to us a few years ago that our relative Ted Cole was seen in town after his escape. Not exactly sure if he's our cousin or not, but it he remembers it from when he was around 10 or 11 years old. I just decided to do some research this evening based on a discussion with my dad earlier this evening and didn't know there was so much material floating around the web about him.

  • They never found the bodies

  • @RileyAces OK, and what about the scull and pontoon. We can see this original items in Mythbusters: Escape from Alcatraz (Check on YT). From where the museum has a pontoon, and this scull? This is verry strange for me...

  • this was significant, seeing as how the prison was built to be the one place no one could ever escape from. that was its claim to fame, so speak.

then they escaped, and were never caught again.

    the irony kills me...

  • I would like to know how much is $50 in todays dollars? Is that alot of money for a reward.

  • and they escape trough a random no security secret hall behind every cell. The designers of this prison just made it easier to escape. WTF?

  • i hope they got away the government is the evil basterds anyway! it is only ok for uncle sam to still

  • Keep in mind that these were hardened CRIMINALS! Not nice guys! they were Bank Robbing thugs!

  • they might be hardened cause they have been lied and cheated from every breath i do not blame them, if they are hardened it is cause the government made them that way. you can only be backed into a wall so far before you bite!

  • yeah I agree they're criminals but robbing banks isn't as bad killing or raping someone, so I wouldn't care if they got away... But I still just want to know if it happened!

  • @blavia77

it COULD happen. In Mythbusters, they thought and the Police thought they went to angel island and the other islands with their boat. But, if they follow the tides they would have made it to (I forgot the name) right off the Golden Gate Bridge, The Mythbusters did it. Why not the people that escaped?

  • @PhilsMovies Banks rob millions of citizens every day, and put families out on the street when they can't pay overstuffed, rising rate mortgages on homes those same banks now value hundreds of thousands lower than the loans they originally wrote. Not 'nice guys' at all.

  • @chuanist ..very good point man. all the talk about crime here, yet the only difference between the bank robbers and the them is one is legilized and one isnt.

  • @PhilsMovies But they were very smart and they escaped from Alcatraz...they are legends!

  • The government is evil. It's okay for them to legally steal from citizens? They call it taxes just to cover it up.

  • @1pigslayer These people are murderers anyway, why wish them well?

  • @1pigslayer

Yep, the government caused them to be brutal and sick criminals

  • of course frank made it, he was an expert swimmer, if a 15 year old kid could swim across, then an expert swimmer could. that water isn't that cold, try swimming in candy rock kennels in ca, the water is way colder, i know cause i've swam in bay and candy rock.

  • wow

  • If any are still on this side of the dirt, they would have to be in their mid to late 80's,

Hoffa will turn up before these 3 do.

  • i think they made it too

  • i believe they did find one body dressed in a Alcatraz uniform in the bay but it was in such bad condition they couldn't identify who it was

  • You know why i think they made it? They found no bodies. No bodies= freedom.

  • they sent a postcard to the san fran police office 2 weeks later that said "hahaha we made it" signed john frank clarence but there were no fingerprints on the card

  • i just saw a documentary bout it. They say the postcard was fake. But,,,, i still think that they made it, and they are probably still alive today. Some where in the world

  • FABULEUX!!!!!!!

  • Yeah they escaped and now they're working at Stop N' Shop lol =)

  • wasnt there a guy called clint eastwood who escaped, what happend to him

  • Clint Eastwood was the actor on the movie adaptation of this escape, he played the role Frank Lee Morris who was one of the real convicts.

  • i think he may be joking

  • Maybe.

  • Comment removed

  • Not if they were swet out through the Golden Gate, where they would have been total fish food.

  • @PhilsMovies ...so the men, who had legs and arms to swim, got swept out to sea, and the raft which had none, stayed in the bay, hmm, not very logical. from the start it was planned to buy them as much time as possible, and misleading the authorities. what would you have done with the raft, carry it along? leave it on the shore where you landed? come on ...it was all part of a perfectly devised plan. after all this, peolpe still underestimate these men, unbelieveable

  • if they drowned they would washed up somewhere

  • Great video. I too wonder why the Ted Cole/Ralph Roe escape is so often overlooked. Would have loved to see a vid on that. Don't know why, but I just think Theodore Cole is so friggin' cool.

  • I have wondered the same thing for many years.

  • Reminds me of the movie "The Shawshank Redemption"

  • sweden

  • Genius

  • they did this on mythbusters. they found out it is possible for them to escape with the tools they had

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

  • My Pleasure. :)

  • IN a documentary (you can find on youtube)

The FBI stated that they received a note that read "Ha ha we made it" and had the three men's signatures.. Im postive they made it! The letter could have been a fake, but im sure the FBI would have been able to tell via their handwriting.

  • Frank Morris had a reputation for being the Harry Houdini of the prison system.

  • Frank Morris was a genius; that's a dangerous combination

  • Frank Morris rules ¡¡¡

  • Frank Morris is the best.

  • The deterioration of Alcatraz gave them a great advantage.

  • do you think they made it or r they dead

  • omg i was der in summer 2008... brilent... the fake heads ar cool

  • The fake heads are under lock and key in a museum in san fransisco.

  • thats scary man!

  • Can someone also find the America's most wanted on escape from alcatraz.

  • they say frank morris had an iq of 133

  • And yet he was not able to rob banks without getting caught.

  • Lol

  • What the name of the documentary that covers this great escape?

  • This is from a documentary called Alcatraz 1934-1977. It is hard to find, but I have posted the whole thing on You Tube.

  • $50 each whos gonna tell if they offer that much

anyway i think they escaped and are alive

  • FYI $50 in 1962 is $356.95 in 2008 dollars. I would also call that a nominal amount.

  • How do you know its 356$ today?

  • I looked it up online. Google the term "What's A Dollar Worth" and you will find a couple of sites that will calculate what money was worth in the past into present day dollars.

  • in another documentary i saw an amount of 50'000.- dollars, written on several wanted-posters

  • they used jackets and glue to make ther raft haha

  • Could someone please upload the Unsolved Mysteries-episode of Alcatraz back here??

Some pricks removed the video and suspended the uploaders account.

  • I think they did make it/hope they did make it. Like many of you have quoted they were smart Prisoners high iqs etc. They could of killed a boatman and faked there death so it would clam the investgation down. After watching that "Unsolved Mysteries" it is obvious that the FBI, Police and the wardens who used to be there are embarrsed to admit that convicts escaped from the inescapable Alcatraz, which shut down a year after the escape.

Fact is there bodies still havent been found!

  • everyone i know most of u wont believe me but the anglin brothers were actualy my great great uncles i swear and like every year until their mom died she would get birthday cards in the mail and every1 new it was from them and when she died a bunch of fbi guys came in case they returned but they didnt

  • Can you upload pictures of the cards or any evidence and include it on a video onto YT ? Interesting to see if so.

  • umm ill have to to ask my grandma were they r but im sure they kept them but one of theyre sisters got married and then her last name was newberry then her daughter married my grandpa and thats how im related but the cards could have went to any of there other brother or sisters but i will try o get them

  • Is it likely the guys made a fake 'human' floating around to give the impression they drowned ? I mean, if they could make fake heads they could of made fake 'humans' during the 2 weeks until a human was found of getting spotted in the water. Just an idea.

Also, I love the emphasis on the first line from the narrator - "The spoon is mightier than the bar at the posssible escape-proof Alcatraz prision". - Says it all really.

  • They just showed the movie Escape from Alcatraz here in Finland, and there was something that bothered me:

In the Mythbusters episode the escapees were sitting in the raft, but in the movie the raft was more like a lifebuoy and the escapees just hold on to it...so which way was it in reality?

  • i have seen a document of the alactraz escape and they were sitting in the raft.

  • wasnt there sharks in the water???

  • Yes there are sharks in San Francisco bay. And the Alcatraz officials made sure the inmates knew it. But what they did NOT tell the inmates what the sharks in the bay were bottom feeders and NOT man eaters. There was also the myth that they dould catch sharks and cut the fins off of one side of their body causing them to only swim circls around the island. This was not true at all.

  • Thats another theory that people use, that there was sharks in the water.Well the water was cold so I dont see how sharks could have survived in those temperatures.

  • How ironic that the Escape From Alcatraz movie with Clint Eastwood was made 29 years ago, and that is how long Alcatraz was a maximum security prision for ?

Another irony is Morris was first put in prision aged 13, had a tattoo of the number 13 and was the 13th (and perhaps) only sucessful escapee from Alcatraz.

Blimey, it's almost June 11th which will make it 47 years without being discovered. To Morris & the Anglins I offer but only a silent cheer for lasting that long.

  • I recommend fellow Alcatraz 'fans' to read Breaking The Rock by Jolene Babyak. The author was the daughter of a guard who was on duty during this escape and has some good and often unseen photos (ie youth mugshots of Morris). I got mine through the post today.

  • i just read that book for a school project and it was amazing! i agree with Wilf1992 =)

  • Does anybody know where I can find out more information about Frank Morris ? I find him very interesting and quite underrated in terms of criminals that went to Alcatraz (in terms of Capone , Machine Gun Kelly etc).

All I know was his DOB , was born in Washington DC and had no real parents and also had an IQ of 133.

So yeah if anyone can tell me when to find more information about Frank Morris via books, websites etc please reply back.

  • search alcatraz ghost stories

  • euh gost of what?

  • If someone want´s to see more videos about this escape, write in the search "Unsolved Mysteries Alcatraz". A really good video (with tree parts).

  • where did you get this video?

  • It is from a little known video, that I have not seen on market shelves since the late 80's

  • No way, unfortunately...because how could they possibly have managed to hide 46 years without anyone seeing them??

    Impossible.

  • lol random comment but I might get a haircut like those of the mugshot of Frank Morris.

  • that's hot.

  • Proof that no prison is escape proof.

  • Harlem Policy King Bumpy Johnson had a boat waiting outside for them. The U.S. Coast guard confirms the boat being out there.

  • wow there smart

  • Correct me if I am wrong but the newsreader says "it appears to be the first escape in the maximum prision" but didn't two others escape called Ralph & Roe in the 40s apparently by using old tires and as raft and escaped ?

  • You are right. Cole and Roe did get off of the island in December of 1937. They also were never heard from again. But most people who were involved believe they died in the attempt. "Doyle" said he saw them go under when it occured. And given the fact that these men were not very smart, if they did make it to land they would have been re captured pretty quickly. I think they died 70 years ago.

  • Shame (to a degree) their plan failed because they would have been the first proper escapees but seeing there is a movie about the escape by Frank Morris and co, would you like to see an escape of the Cole & Roe made into a movie if it was possible or do you think it won't be as 'interesting' as the Morris escape of 1962 ? Sorry if it is getting annoying seeing alot of my comments come up (probaly 6 of the 33 are by me).

  • Here is a somewhat unknown fact about an Alcatraz Escape. BEFORE it was a federal prison, it was an Army prison. And in that prison they had a printing operation where inmates made government forms, booklets and so on. Well two men, whose names I do not know, escaped from Alcatraz (then known as the U.S. Disiplinary Baracks) by PRINTING THEEIR OWN RELEASE PAPERS! By the time the officials realized what happened, the two were long gone, and never seen again. And do not worry abotu your posts. :)

  • I wonder if any evidence on if they lived/died or anything after their Alcatraz escape will be found in our time being on Earth before we all die out from global warming/sun swallowing up our universe etc.

  • wow just wow this is amazing ehat they did

  • They esaceped and no one knows what happened to them .. its imposible to find out .. they have only found there padles ...

  • i think they could have swam to land!! Such a cool story.

  • To think that if (which I believe they did) escape and are either in San Francisco/USA/elsewhere the Anglin brothers would be 76 and Frank Morris would be 81.

  • Does anyone know if Allen West is still alive and what kind of life has he had?

  • Allan Clayton West is dead. He died in the 1980s

  • He was sent to Atlanta almost a year later, then to Georgia & Florida. When he got out a few years later, he was sentenced to life iuno for what, he killed another prisoner in 1972 wich was a racial incident. He died in 1978 from peritonitis at age 49

  • that was about Allen West for torpeedo1

  • this is really factual, but also watch Alcatraz Escape by superjoed123 for a really entertaining movie.

  • did they ever find them?

  • Nope, they never got found after that - they are still offically missing though most believe they are presumed death. There have been reports that Anglin family members received postcards from South America but that is all that was heard.

  • To be honest I can't see that they had family on a boat waiting for them because based on what I have read so far in the book Escape From Alcatraz the prisioners letters would have to be checked by Warden Johnston as well as letters sent from family to the prisioners so I can't see your theory to be true. I personally do think they escaped but I doubt that Morris and the others would be alive today as they would be aged 76 (Anglin brothers) or 81 (Morris) but either way it's an amazing feat.

  • I heard they had a boat waiting on them (family)

  • To be honest I can't see that they had family on a boat waiting for them because based on what I have read so far in the book Escape From Alcatraz the prisioners letters would have to be checked by Warden Johnston as well as letters sent from family to the prisioners so I can't see your theory to be true.
