This is cool but I wish people would stop confusing the Humboldt (Dosidicus gigas) squid with the Giant Squid (Architeuthis Dux). The Giant Squid is an order of magnitude bigger (and rarer to find).
I went on a 3/4 day charter, the very first morning(3am) of the phenomenon, at oxnard charter fishing(they have a site).
We caught hundreds and hundreds of squid. My family alone brought home 80 or so. It was unfortunate, though, because they eat all the other fish.(I won the jackpot with a 12 inch chuckle.)
so the squid show up after 80 years and they just start catching and killing them by the hundreds that really smart. fuckinh americans
