@chrisuncleahmad West Virginia got smoked by Florida in the Sugar Bowl. They had a decent team, but didn't really play anyone that season kind of like Wyoming's '88 season
fsu played a tougher schedule the notre dame that year i dont think fsu can be penalized for a loss to 2nd ranked notre dame by a td in notre dame flordia states only loss that year if notre dame goes undefeated then yes there title the fact there 1 loss was to a lower ranked oppenent that fsu loss even though fsu lost to notre dame then i think fsu deserved the title still would have loved to see a rematch
@TheBigBHang NOTRE DAME WASNT OVERRATED THEY HAD THE BEST QUERTER BACK IN THE COUNRTY ''Kevin T. McDougal '' IT WAS JUST BOSTON COLLEGE ...IT'S ALWAYS A TUFF GAME WITH B.C NO MATTER WHAT THERE RANKED .....GO IRISH ....
Serves Notre Dame right to lose that game. After running up the score the year before by going for a fake punt when they were up 50-7 that gave BostonCollege plenty of bulletin board material fornext year.I remember seeing that game as a 9 year old and loving everysecond of it when the drunken Irish I mean the FightingIrish lost that game. That lost pretty much gave Florida State the shot at the NationalChampionship games Nebraska. Goes to show never run of the score because it will haunt you.
go irish! nd-20 bc 16. however i gotta give it up to bc's defense for keeping it close but in the end nd's defense was better. my heart goes out to bc's defensive linebacker who's battling cancer and i hope he manages to beat that cancer.
yea i did and i know we lost 34-27. and i don't even give a shit about that game cos it's in the past. i move on and forget about what happend after we lose. i don't make excuses. but hey did u happen to catch the score on the washington vs usc game in week 3? lmao.
ALL teams move in cycles....up and down...ask Michigan, Miami, USC, Washington, Oklahoma etc...and Notre Dame...it's just a matter of time until the upswing...Go Irish!!!
for all u ppl that keep saying teams like this irish team were overrated just for losing to an unranked team need to realize that any team can be any team on any given day. just depends which team is ready to play
@TheBigBHang oh yeah, BC has taken it to ND, but last year when ND finally hired a decent coach ND smacked BC in the mouth...31-17...And with a Top 5 recruiting class and 18 starters returning...look out for ND...I can't wait to see Mante Te'o knock one of your receivers out cold....HERE COME THE IRISH!!
@natedagr808 BC gunned for ND that entire year after ND owned them in 92. They had their best start in a while ruined and came back the following year with this game on their minds the entire time
If I recall correctly, BC had a 38-17 lead and Notre Dame came back to take the lead 39-38. As you can see BC won the game with a Gordon field goal, final 41-39. Probably one of the most underrated football games of all time!
As BC fan Notre Dame was the rival I loved to hate and had a lot of respect for but them dropping BC from the schedule because they can't beat them is a real pussy move. BC and Miami need to start playing again too
Notre Dame National Titles after 1993: 0, top 5 finishes: 0, consensus All-Americans: 1, bowl victories: 0, losing seasons: 4. And they have a losing record against USC and BC. Maybe the day that shook the sport like no other...
Believe it, since that loss to BC in '93, the Notre Dame football program has been in a freefall. They've had some decent years, but they've yet to fully recover from that devastating upset from the Eagles. And based on the shape the program is in, that isn't going to change anytime soon.
As a BC fan it's great to know that our team was responsible setting the path for our rival to where they're now a mediocre program. One of the best college football games ever! Go Eagles!
Absolutely! WVU got jobbed, then they had no heart left for the Sugar Bowl. WVU took out a very good Miami team and deserved their shot. Hey anyone know if this clip is from the Sports Illustrated year in review CD that came out for PC? I had it as a kid and wish I could find it
And then they get blown out by Florida in the Sugar Bowl
Irish still should have gone. Things were weird back then. Notre Dame played a top ranked Colorado in the Orange Bowl in 89, while 2nd ranked Miami played 6th ranked Alabama for the Championship?
WVU didn't play anyone...FSU beat the Gators at the Swamp, and they beat Miami...Charlie Ward didn't see the receiver in the endzone...that is why they couldn't score at the end of the game..We beat the Gators, and the Gators beat WVU 48-7 in the Sugar Bowl
It's funny that you can hear someone say he missed it as the kick is on its way. No matter who does it, anybody that can take a piss on Notre Dame like that gains my gratitude.
as far as im concerned FSU didnt win shit... ND FSU rematch was the only real solution beside a split champion. didnt miami and washington split in 91? notre dame earned it as much as FSU
I guess you didn't watch the week before this game. Does Florida State ring a bell? From 1987-1993 ND beat 15 teams that finished in the top 10 in the AP poll. Sound overrated bitch? This was 1993, not 2007.
We danced on the field for an hour after the game... body painted in the maroon and gold... we were delirious... some ND fans were sitting crying in their seats!
I was there with Dre, Liz, and Anne! Road trip nirvana... Still got the turf and the ticket stub... Greatest win ever - Foley to soft hands TE Pete Mitchell, 82, forever on THAT drive. David Gordon, a hero who had never gone over 40yds... GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!
Who was the coach for Boston College ?? Tom Coughlin. The man who will be coaching in the Superbowl on Sunday and still gets no respect.

The kick that sent Notre Dame's program straight into mediocrity. Eighteen years later, they still haven't recovered.

When BC kicked that field goal and won, West Virginia and Nebraska should have been in the driver's seat for the title, not Florida State.

This should have set up a West Virginia/Nebraska title game.
B.C. pulls the upset, and there were two unbeaten teams left.
Instead of doing the right thing, Florida State backed in.
IMO, the wrong team benefitted from this upset.
