The writers said that the alternate ending of the special was designed to keep Mac alive so IF they did start it again he wouldn't be dying.

Well, true, but they do have an alternate ending to the Christmas special where Mac tells Caroline "Uh, Caroline, there's something I have to tell you..." and then it cuts out, so really they could just keep Mac in there with some comedy gag about how someone screwed up the records and he found out he's not really dying. Who knows? Still, it's been three years, I don't think it's coming back.

@helenluvsmagik its green wing though, they could easily come up with some weird witty scenario where he finds a miracle cure? we don't even know what he "died" of.. or if he even did "die"!
