how do you install these? I've downloaded them after installing a boat load of dev tools then went to make and I get errors. I double checked that I installed all the proper tools and even copy/pasted the apt-get install *big list* to make sure, I'm on Ubuntu 8.04
Thanks, Elements seems to have errors installing too. One of which (the last one) is build/elements_options.c:1346: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before '*' token
make: *** [build/elements_options.lo] Error 1..then it enabled compiz and I'm not really sure where to find the settings, they do not exist in compiz manager
Textures can be changed in the options, so if you have a cherry blossom image, try it. If it looks good, you can send it to me and I'll probably include it in Elements whenever I get around to figuring that all out.
I'd like to add that I can run all the compiz plugins except water on a laptop with 32MD of Video RAM and 512MB regular RAM. I had slowdown of XP, yet I have fullspeed on LINUX with all of these plug-ins.
I love compiz-fusion and all, but like several other plugins, this is just totally useless (cough fire writing and rain, i'm looking at you...) But i mean, that doesn't at all detract from the overall value of compiz-fusion, it's a plugin after all, and there are plenty of other, generally more useful plugins, and having the variety is great, especially if someone felt the need to have falling leaves on their desktop...

Vista lol like yto c vista run somthing as cool as this using under 1GB of ram lol and vistas one umm forgot what it is caled runs really really bad :D good job IceFisher
Definitely worse on cpu and memory, Dreamscene works by playing a full resolution video as your background unlike compiz fusion. Dreamscene is a horrible idea that will never work and will probably disappear.
Actually that may not be entirely true. While I agree that its hard to believe that anything windows could possibly be cpu and mem friendly, computers are getting more and more powerful. At some point its probably going to be pretty plausible and popular to have a video playing as a wallpaper. Btw, you can actually play a vid as wallpaper on linux too, if you dig hard enough. Without spending a penny too.
I know VLC allows your to have wallpaper mode but can you get it to initialize on startup with the proper video? I'm interested to know. I've been experimenting with Flash(swf files) as backgrounds on XP but I was disappointed when Vista didnt support it. Come to think of it, Vista disappoints on MANY aspects.
My old PC (1.8Ghz single core, 220MB RAM, onboard graphics) could render a video as a desktop with little/slowdown five years ago, Vista handles it perfectly.
i have to agree with the other commenters. oddly enough I too have a complete 3D desktop cube, with window transparency, wobbly windows, and gears moving inside my cube and I'm using a pretty shitty ass Gateway Laptop with a celeron processor and 512mb of RAM.
I wouldn't think so.. -_- Normally a little eyecandy in compiz doesn't take up wery much at all. Can run it on my 1.6 GHz Geforce 5200 and 750 mb of ram.. -_-
I developed it on a centrino duo with 1GB ram and Intel integrated graphics (it's a laptop). It runs smoothly with 10000 leaves. The video here shows ~80 leaves.
I've tested it on a machine with integrated and 512MB ram, runs fine.

Autumn is not supported on the newest Compiz Fusion releases. If you want it, you'll have to use Elements, which you'll find in my profile.
Unfortunately, the dev team changes the API every few months and it's impossible to keep up on all plugins.

Oh, without a doubt there are better and more useful plugins. I find ADD Helper and Scale are a necessity for me.
But hey, as long as it's not slowing down my computer noticeably, I'm down for it. That's why I like this kind of stuff.
PS: Water (you called it "Rain") is unbelievably useful as a Pidgin notification. That's another one I wouldn't like to live without.

vlc is a free video player that, among many other things, lets you have a video as wallpaper. for windows and linux (and mac?)

you probably need dual core with 2 gigs of ram and 8800 to run this .. shake my head...

Nay, 512 megs of RAM would be enough. This is linux my friend. ::nods my head::

More like 512MB - that's what my Ubuntu Linux system with Compiz Fusion has right now.
Also Radeon 9700.
