  • An amazing performance like no other. Thank you Vermettya for this - and thank you Ian for sharing it..

  • Hey Ian. I´m not an I-tunes person. Can we get this and all her other stuff on a CD??

  • hey this is my great aunt! :-)

  • I wish she'd come back to London

  • @CareBear90286 Your a VERY lucky person, she has a spectacular voice and real soul, as Ian says I'd love her to come over to London PLEASE!

  • not only does Vermettya have a great voice, she is also a lovely lady.Years ago she used to stay with a friend of hers in Plaistow,East London, and i had the pleasure of chatting to her for a long time and selling her a Christmas Tree of all things,She also worked with Elvis Presley, she showed me a scrap book of photos of her working with Elvis,Ray Charles when she was a Raelette and also when she was an Ikette.

  • If I heard this sung by chinese people, it will still be a bad ass song! I always thought this song had the hottest beat and some kick ass lyrics! IanLevine I don't know you, babe, but I love the hell out of you for this! Thanks!

  • Ian, I just downloaded this great song from iTunes. Sublime!

  • IS THIS THE SAME Vermettya Royster THAT WAS IN THE CLARA WARD SINGERS?

  • I believe she was indeed. Before Sisters Love.

  • Yes--this is the same V that sang with the Ward Singers back in the late 60's and early

70's. Also did alot of background studio work during the disco era in addition to being a one time Ikette (backing Ike & Tina)and a Raelette (Ray Charles bad ass background singers.)

  • Ian- Another Fabulous Singer I Have Found Through You!!!! Vermettya Is Just TOOO MUCH!! LOVE HER!!!!! And I Love You Ian, For All The Fantastic Music & Singers I Have Discovered Because Of You!!! You Are Simple Wonderful-David

  • The video was shot in Los Angeles in February 1999, and was shot by my friend Chris Lalor.

Rudy Calvo, a big friend of Vermettya Royster's, was the one who got the lineup back together, and it was filmed in a gospel church owned by Motown singer Carl Bean.

  • Just want to say I love you Ian Levine - I have loads of your compilations and recordings (and even a book if I remember). Your words should be respected and I will be watching out for your videos cos loads will be in my favourites. Thank you babes :)

  • What a nice message, and you're most welcome. This is why I put the videos up on YouTube.

  • Wow! Slip it to me! What a great (and sexy) rendition of a super song! Thanks for posting, Ian.

  • The video of "I'm Learning To Trust My Man" contains a reunion of the genuine members of Sisters Love who sang on the original version of that record. Whether these girls were on their earlier A&M records or not is irrelevant, and makes you come across as petty.

  • first sentence is truth, Genuine members yes! Original members no! I thought you knew their history. don't twist it, you said you got the ORIGINALS together for the video. Not petty at all sir, just truth!

  • The originals who sang the song "I'm Learning To Trust My Man", that we re-recorded.

  • Ok, you re-recorded it, but the original Sisters DID NOT record that song! The final group of them did.

    Clear?

  • when did you get the original ladies back together and for what in particular? Also, do you know who the original members were? Vermettya was not one of them.

  • The original members were Merry Clayton, Odia Coats, Lillie Fort & Gwen Berry. Vermettya and Jeanie Long replaced Merry & Odia in 1969.

  • Vermettya replaced Odia (1969); Jeanie long replaced Vermettya(1969); Then Vermettya replaced Merry (1970)

A bit rocky there for a while, but no more personel changes after that.

  • It was for the video of "I'm Learning To Trust My Man", for The Strange World Of Northern Soul.

  • Get it straight! Jeanie and Lillie were the ONLY originals for that video.

  • correction to my last post: Lillie was the Only original for that video.

  • These are not the Sisters I remember! Who are these people?

  • They were Vermettya's backing singers while she lived in England. We did get the whole original lineup of Sisters Love back together, but for this particular record, it was a solo release by just Vermettya.

  • Sang it Vermettya!!! I was just watching the episode of ST the other day that featured here and The Sisters Love doing this jam. I tell you what! She sang her ASS off! and yes, I'm one of those folks that think the MoWest version is a bit more superior than Barbara Mason's and Curtis Mayfield's (Though, they are all Jammin!)

  • yea...u say jennifer hudson pales to this?....i don't think so.

  • She's got pipes, but Martha Wash hardly pales in comparison.

  • Barbara Mason totally owned this song on her remake, whenever you mention this song, Mason comes to mind not Royster!

  • There's a whole generation of early disco followers, who worshipped the single on MoWest, who would violently disagree with you.

  • since when was this?

  • The video was filmed in 1991.

  • Ian: I am thilled by this singer, her voice, and the wonederful song. She sounds like a living link to Izora Armstead, and that is some credit to her! What are the biggest voices you recall, divas with real belting power? Cheers, and keep up the good work.
