Even in strange productions such as this one, Kaufmann shines. His pianissimo and expressiveness are indeed lovely. It's amazing to me that he can go from such deliciacy to singing the big Wagner roles, as planned over the coming years...

This version is tons better than the ROH Netrebko-Kaufmann version of 2009.

Das ändert leider nichts an den Tatsachen. Beide können anscheinend nur laut. Und wenn Kaufmann dann doch piano singt, klingt es, als habe er einen Korken unter der Zunge. So wirkt diese Szene, die uns ja eigentlich im Innersten unserer Seele erschüttern soll, nur noch unfreiwillig komisch.
